A group of young sisters set out on a campaign of terror against their mom’s new boyfriend in the new horror-comedy Ankle Biters (aka Cherrypicker), being released this week. In the movie, Sean, a pro hockey enforcer, has fallen in love with Laura, a widowed mother of four young daughters. Directed by Bennet De Brabandere, Ankle Biters stars Zion Forrest Lee, Marianthi Evans, Lily Gail Reid, Violet Reid, Rosalee Reid, and Dahlia Reid. Blu-ray Review: The Chinese Boxer (1970)

So peep this shit; a real ballsy mother fucker by the name of Diao Erh-yeh (Chao Hsiung) strolls on into the Chung Yi Chinese kung-fu school and starts whipping ass like a human tornado… until the school’s Master arrives and delivers an absolutely savage beating to that crass Judo master! Defeat goes over like a fart in church for Diao, and he vows revenge in the form of “karate-men” … and indeed, men that know karate (eventually joined by a couple of samurai, because fuck yeah!) bestow an absolute shitstorm of karate-based murder and mayhem on the student body of Chung Yi… which leaves the town rather defenseless and an easy target for karate-men conquest… which involves more casino ownership than karate… This doesn’t sit well with Chung Yi star pupil/karate abuse survivor Lei Ming (Jimmy Wang Yu… who wrote and directed this picture with production from the legendary Shaw Brothers Studios) so he decides to undergo some of that

Blu-ray Review: The Old Ways (2020)

Cristina (Brigitte Kali Canales), a journalist from L.A., has returned home down Mexico way to investigate some local ruins. There are a few snags on this workcation however, as the heroin addicted, childhood exorcism witness has been set up by her cousin who believes she is possessed. To that end she experiences the hospitality (read: her ass is chained to a bed in a dank cell and she’s forced to drink more goat milk than one would assume to be pleasurable) of an ancient bruja,,, a shaman witch if you will, named Luz (Julia Vera) and her son Javi (Sal Lopez) who go right ahead and work an exorcism on her ass right quick! Cristina naturally she assumes this is bullshit (her own past be damned!), but before you can say no bueno, that bruja begins pulling human teeth and snakes out of her belly… just reached right on in and pulled that shit out , they did… well, the

Blu-ray Review: Frankenstein’s Daughter (1958)

Trudy Morton (Sandra Knight) is having some real horror humdinger nightmares in which she pictures herself as a monster out on the town, but it certainly won’t stand in the way of a good game of tennis… as it shouldn’t. The gaggle of Grease cast members she calls friends think it’s all a load of bullshit, except for Trudy’s frenemy Suzie (Sally Todd), who experienced the same “dream”. As fate would have it, the elderly scientist uncle Trudy lives with, Carter Morgan (Felix Maurice Locher) by name, has a real douchebag of a lab assistant; the rude-as-fuck, Felix Flankin lookin’ motherfucker Oliver Frank (Donald Murphy)… short for Frankenstein ‘natch… who is working a side-hustle in the lab; making a “female” creature out of random body-parts (no surprise given Oliver’s family history) while Carter aims to eliminate all disease in the world. Oh, and Oliver has been spiking Trudy’s daily fruit punch with a formula that turns her into a scantily

Blu-ray Review: An Angel for Satan (1966)

The Count of Montebruno (Claudio Gora), is gettin’ his palatial pad, located in a tiny Italian lakeside village, all nice n’ tidy because his gorgeous niece Harriet (Euro-horror mainstay Barbara Steele) is a-comin’ to town! While getting his Mister Clean on, the count discovers a forgotten antique statue… a statue that just so happens to look exactly like Harriet. Speaking of ol’ H; she begins holding sway with the other inhabitants of the household, all while the bodies keep piling up around town… which the inhabitants are sure are related to a curse associated with that arcane artwork. What secret does that seemingly idle idol possess and how does it relate to Harriet? Directed and co-written by Camillo Mastrocinque (along with Giuseppe Mangione), An Angel for Satan is a Gothic thriller absolutely packed with everything that makes that genre so damn spellbinding! We get the old, dark mansion located in secluded environs, a fair young woman in residence… walking among

Movie Review: ‘Isolation’

The pandemic anthology Isolation, which features 11 directors, gives us a glimpse into the lives of multiple people across the world as the world around them skids to a halt and millions fall sick and die. In each segment, loosely connected, we see different examples of human suffering and just how bad things could be. The film’s cinematography does a fantastic job of capturing the bleakness of the new world by using blues and grays as well as other muted tones and stark city backgrounds nearly void of all life. The large cast that includes Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter, Habit, Depraved), Bobby Roe, (“The Houses October Built 1&2”), Andrew Kasch, (Tales Of Halloween), Zach Passero (Wicked Lake), and Christian Pasquariello (Alien Invasion: S.U.M. 1). The directors include Alix Austin, Adam R. Brown, Lary Fessenden, Dennie Gordon, Andrew Kasch, Kyle I. Kelley, Alexander Neary, Christian Pasquariello, Zach Passero, Bobby Roe, and Keir Siewert. Each segment gives us a take on

Movie Review: ‘Halloween Kills’ But That’s About It

Halloween Kills has just premiered exclusively on Peacock. Those who aren’t subscribers will have to sign up for the service at the cost of $4.99 a month which isn’t bad. It’s cheaper than a rental or a ticket to theaters. WARNING SOME SPOILERS The last we saw the Strode women in Halloween, they had trapped Michael in Laurie’s basement and set the house on fire. But in true Myers fashion, “the shape” found his way out as firefighters converged on the house which was completely engulfed in flames. Laurie has survived Michael’s attack and is in the hospital when all hell breaks loose as crowds of residents gather chanting “Evil dies tonight!” led by Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall) who survived Michael as a boy. We actually see quite a few characters return from the franchise, only to quickly see them be killed off. The movie features more kills than any other installment of the franchise, but that doesn’t mean

Netflix Review: ‘Night Teeth’ Lacks Bite

Netflix’s new vampire movie Night Teeth debuts this October. I sank my teeth into it to answer an important question, does it have a bite or does it suck? In the movie, Benny (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) agrees to fill in as a chauffeur for his brother. His fare for the night happens to be two beautiful young women, Zoe (Lucy Fry) and Blaire (Debby Ryan). But as Benny drives them from place to place he notices strange things, until he discovers their secret, and their fangs, and that they are in a city-wide battle for power among the vampire elite. Quite a few stars make cameos including Megan Fox, Sydney Sweeney, “Game of Thrones” actor Alfie Allen, and “Vikings” star Alexander Ludwig, all as vampires. Here’s the thing, a lot of the advertising teased Fox would play an important role in the movie, but she gets maybe five minutes of screen time (at the most), which made me feel a

Movie Review: Lamb

I have seen my share of strange films but Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Lamb takes the cake. I have never seen anything else like it. When a couple (Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snær Guðnason) discovers one of the sheep on their farm has given birth to something not completely human, not completely animal, a baby with a human body and a lamb’s head. They set their eyes on the creature they respond with a deadpan reaction like it was an everyday occurrence, and silently go about raising it in a bid to soothe their sorrow for their lost child. The couple’s reactions to the events throughout the movie are downright odd. The first sight of the child they have named Ada is not the only “meh” reaction they have. The two spend much of the film silently going about their business of farming like they are numb. The film’s location is stunning. It plays out in a remote area of Iceland. The

Blu-ray Review: The Green Knight (2021)

This October, writer-director David Lowery sends viewers back into the 14th century, a time when Christianity was just taking hold and the old gods still carried favor, to witness the life of Sir Gawain and his quest for honor in a world where magic is real, in The Geen Knight, based on the classic Arthurian poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight written in the fourteenth century. In the film, Gawain is invited to sit next to his uncle, King Authur at a Christmas celebration. When a challenge is given for someone of the court to face the Green Knight, Gawain accepts. As part of the “game”, Gawain must face the Green Knight again exactly one year later. When the time comes Gawain sets out on a journey that will change him forever. Gawain is played by Dev Patel and he does a fantastic job of emoting his character’s fear and suffering as he faces hardship after hardship on his
