The Pronouns of Fandom

Disclaimer: Sports, film, music, and art will do more to unite a nation than politics. All of these, collectively known as “entertainment” allow people a sense of belonging, identity and sharing. They can represent the best of us as a species. All can inspire, amaze and make us and make us better people. Notice I left out any reference to “ownership.” Grammar Nazis love to focus on the improper use of “You’re” and “Your” and “They’re and There.” I suggest they look into the misuse of certain pronouns. Fans of any medium don’t seem to understand “Us” and “Them” or “We” and “They.” A sports example: The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 52. The players, coach, the staff that worked on a daily basis to make the machine run–THEY won the Super Bowl. YOU reading this did not. To see “We did it!” type posts online is another example of a spectator world that confuses viewing with doing. To be

BABYMETAL Guitarist Passes Away After Accident

It’s being announced today via social media that Japanese guitarist Mikio Fujioka has passed away. On Fujioka’s twitter account his wife made the announcement that he died on January 5th at the age of 36. Fujioka fell from an astronomical observation deck on December 30th while stargazing. His health took a turn for the worse and passed away from his injuries with his two daughters present at the moment of his death. Fujioka published ten guitar textbooks and was a lecturer at a music school in Japan but he’s mostly known from being part of the Kami Band (originally referred to as the Gods of Metal), a group made up of five musicians who are members of other bands or work on solo projects but come together to be the band for Japan’s Kawaii-Metal music group BABYMETAL. Fujioka went by the stage name Ko-Gami (the Small God) because he was the shortest member of the Kami Band at 5’1 (158cm).

The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs Finds Second Career…In Music

It appears The Walking Dead’s golden boy, Chandler Riggs is branching out. While earning his acting cred as Carl Grimes, son of Sheriff Rick Grimes, it seems Riggs has now acted on his interest in the music industry. Riggs has been DJing at events nationwide including the annual Walker Stalker Cruise. Riggs has teamed up with Lolaby to release his first song, titled “Hold On” which he has spent over a year creating. “Hold On” is now available on Spotify and several other sites. This was an amazing co-write between myself and the ever so talented Chandler Riggs.” Lolaby said. Before you jump to conclusions, you should know that this doesn’t necessarily mean his character Carl is on the chopping block anytime soon. Most of the cast of the hit series work on other projects when not filming ‘TWD’. I will say this, the fact that he’s not DJing under the name Carl Poppa is a bit disappointing. Check out

Film & Game Composer Penka Kouneva Tells Us About Her Latest Projects

One of the most important keys to how we perceive films, shows, and games is the music that sets the tone of each scene. I recently spoke with composer and musician Penka Kouneva about her past and present projects and how she found her way to music and to the US. You may not realize it, but you have heard Penka’s work many times before in films like Elysium, Act of Valor, Angels & Demons, Freaks of Nature, Heroes and Legends and the recently released genre film Devil’s Whisper. Horror Fuel: “How did you become a composer?” Penka Kouneva: I have been drawn to music since early childhood. My mother is a teacher of music theory for a college. There was always music in our house. She took me to concerts. I felt emotionally drawn to it when I listened to music as a child. I always imagined stories and settings. Music for me was always associated with storytelling. That’s

T. Love’s Top 5 Chilling Classical Musical Pieces For Halloween

Halloween is very nearly upon us, my Little Monsters, and it’s a time when we like to surround ourselves with all manner of, shall we say, spooky shit. We watch our favorite horror films, adorn our homes with decor, or whatever it may take to create the mood that is befitting this ghoulish holiday. But sometimes we need a little something extra to create the proper atmosphere or ambiance, and the right music can absolutely do it. That’s why I have chosen to share five of my favorite (for one reason or another) creepy classical music compositions…in no particular order. Danse Macabre is a “tone poem” that was written by Camille Saint-Saëns and is based on a French legend. According to the legend Death would appear every year on Halloween at midnight and would request the dead to rise from their eternal slumber and dance about on their graves for him as he played a tune on his violin. Upon

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Sheri Moon Zombie

Hello my Little Monsters, I’m pleased to see that you have again returned to join me in celebrating another of our wonderful Women of Horror. We are less than one week from Halloween, and it just so happens that today’s lovely and talented lady played Michael Myer’s mother in Rob Zombie’s brutal remake of John Carpenter’s horror classic Halloween. That’s right, today Sheri Moon Zombie is our lady in the spotlight. Sheri Lyn Skurkis may be a California girl by birth, having been born in San Jose, but she was raised in Torrington, Connecticut. In her late teens, Sheri would travel back and forth between Connecticut and California while she attended school and also pursued work. While she didn’t originally have designs on becoming an actress in the traditional sense, Sheri had her sights set on doing voice overs and voice acting for cartoons and animation. At one point she also wanted to join MTV’s ranks as a “VJ” and
