Blu-ray Review: Deep Blood (1990)

There’s nothing like a good, fire roasted hot dog, and Raffaele Donato… or Joe D’Amato… must have thought so too as Deep Blood opens with what seems like an eternity of kids cooking hot dogs on a beach… hell, one of the scamps manages to use one as a shield to block his vision from the suns rays. Enter: a bum… or a “native American”… yes, those quotes are denoting some of my patented, award-losing sarcasm cats n’ creeps, as this dude looks to be nothing more than an old white guy in a beaded headband arrives and tells our wiener-hungry heroes that if they do a blood oath they can bring forth an evil spirit. Sounds legit. Moving forward a bit, that shit seems to have actually worked, as a mother and her young child stop for a swim in the middle of nowhere (speaking of “swimming”, although the characters are outside, the underwater shots of the kid swimming

RLJE Films has been busy. We just reported that this May they are releasing the horror-thriller Son. Now we can report that they will be unleashing the action-horror film, Great White this summer with a Shudder release to follow. Written by Michael Boughen (Dying Breed) and directed by Martin Wilson in his feature debut, Great White stars Katrina Bowden (Piranha 3DD, “30 Rock”), Aaron Jakubenko (“Tidelands”), Kimie Tsukakoshi (Riptide), Tim Kano (“Neighbours”), and Te Kohe Tuhaka (Love and Monsters, “The Dead Lands”). In a desperate bid for survival, the group tries to make it to land before they either run out of supplies or are taken by a menacing terror lurking just beneath the surface. We’ve all been afraid to go back into the water since 1975 and GREAT WHITE is going to keep us out of the water for

‘Meg 2’ Director Describes The Sequel As Being On An “Insanely Large Scale”

Back in 2018, The Meg (review) was unleashed. Now, the sequel is swimming towards us. Director Ben Whaetley (Kill List, High Rise, Rebecca) recently gave an update on the film that is said to be working with a $130-$180 budget. During a discussion with comicbook.com, the director had this to say: “A lot of it is respecting The Meg, and trying to make sure it’s a great Meg film. And as you can see from the movies I’ve made, they’re not necessarily … when you go and do Doctor Who, I don’t completely change it because I wanted to do it. I didn’t want to necessarily make it something completely different that nobody recognized, you know? So there’s that element of back and forth.” He continued, “But it’s an opportunity to do action on such an insanely large scale, that it’s just unbelievable. From doing Free Fire, which was all my Christmases came at once in terms of action, this

Meg Author Steve Alten Talks Sharks, New Series, Movies, And His New Interactive Site

Steve Alten, that’s a name most people are familiar with. He’s the best-selling author that brought us the Meg series which was adapted for the big-budget 2018 movie The Meg starring Jason Statham as well as the upcoming sequel. He also has an amazing new interactive website Sea Monster Cove that puts you in the water with ancient sea monsters, features a new exclusive web series, a video game, and a library of Alten’s novels, all for $9.95 a month. It’s continually evolving and adding new aquariums, new monsters, new books, and new series episodes. Before I sat down with Alten for an interview I explored the site, called Sea Monster Cove. I dove into the cove to cage dive with giant Makos and other sea monsters you wouldn’t want to run into. It was quite fantastic. Horror Fuel: “I’m a big fan of Meg. I love anything to do with sharks. Where does your fascination with sharks and ancient

Dive Into “Meg” Author Steve Alten’s Interactive World “Sea Monster Cove”

If you thought watching the blockbuster movie The MEG, which plunged viewers headfirst into the waiting jaws of a Megalodon in the Mariana Trench, was thrilling, imagine immersing yourself in an interactive world ruled by prehistoric sea creatures and taking part in the heart-pounding action! Steve Alten, the author of the NY Times bestselling MEG series, has created a world like no other. Sea Monster Cove is a revolutionary multimedia entertainment concept that combines virtual reality, a web TV series, a video game, and a learning platform into one interactive site. The Sea Monster Cove website of Alten’s imagination is a spectacular, five-star aquarium-themed resort located on Maug, a remote (and very real) island in the Western Pacific. Maug’s volcano erupted 5 million years ago; today all that remains are three uninhabited islets that had been the volcano’s rim and a flooded magma chamber that serves as its lagoon. Why place a virtual island resort here? That’s where Alten’s research

Blu-ray Review: Cruel Jaws (1995)

Ever want to watch the entire Jaws series of films in one go, but you just could never find the time? Well, fret not cats n’ creeps, because your kindly uncle Bruno (Mattei that is… he of Shocking Dark, Rats: Night of Terror, and a beastly billion more… even though he’s credited as William Snyder here for reasons most likely relating to permits and taxes) has managed to shove the entire series into a 94 minute gem titled Cruel Jaws! In the sleepy seaside town of Hampton Bay, Dag (Richard Dew… though it may actually be Hulk Hogan… Dagamania’s runnin’ wild brother!) operates an aquarium, though he’s down on his luck after an accident nearly ruined him, and left his poor waif of a daughter mighty pouty… and unable to walk I guess. To make matters worse, a greedy-ass businessman, the mafia, and the town’s mayor want his ass evicted pronto. Naturally, there’s also an annual festival (this time a

Tania stars as marine biologist Dr. Emma Collins whose team is based on an artificial island studying marine biology and sharks. When her ex arrives begging for help to locate a group of sharks that have escaped from a secret research facility, but that will be easier said than done. These sharks have been genetically altered. They’re intelligent and brutal. Emma and her team are now locked in a fight for survival. Horror Fuel: “So, I watched Deep Blue Seas 3 last night. I liked it.” Tania Raymonde: “Oh, I’m so glad!” Horror Fuel: “I love that so much was included the real plight of sharks and the dangers of climate

Blu-ray Review: JAWS (1975) 45th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD

JAWS is one of the most iconic fright flicks of the sinister seventies, and as is befitting a creature classic like this, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is givin’ the auld toothy fellow the 4k Ultra treatment… which I just so happen to have in front of my eerie eyeballs as we speak… err, read… whatever… For the none of you that are unfamiliar with JAWS, the story can be boiled down as follows: the beachfront summer destination of Amity up New England way is having a bit of trouble as the summer season nears, and with it the big July 4th celebration… people just keep getting eaten by a rather large shark; not exactly what you’d expect from a small Maine town. Naturally the town’s mayor is not going to let common sense get in the way of the almighty dollar, and he’s prepared to let things go on as usual (an opinion only bolstered by the discovery and elimination
