Blu-ray Review: Waterworld (1995)

In the future (or like next Tuesday the way shit is going) the polar ice caps have melted flooding the planet. Folks now live on floating islands of scrap called atolls and hold a belief that a mythical “Dryland” must exist out there…somewhere. Enter The Mariner (Kevin Costner); a dirt trader (yeah…dirt is a commodity because…water reasons…) and gill havin’ mutant to the atoll. Very, very long story short; pirates lead by Deacon (Dennis Hopper) invade the atoll looking to kidnap a girl named Enola (Tina Majorino) who just so happens to have a map to Dryland tattooed on her back, and it’s up to Mariner to protect her while hopefully leading the remnants of humanity to Dryland. I’m not going to tell you that Waterworld is a perfect film; it’s bloated as all fuck, is obviously a vanity project for Costner, and is derivative of the Mad Max franchise to the point of distraction…it also isn’t the Kong-sized piece

Blu-ray Review: The Critters Collection (1986 – 1992)

Man oh man I love me some Critters…well the first film anyway. To be truthful, I loved the sequel as well, but only ended up seeing it once or twice, and the third and fourth pics? Well, I know I saw them at some point, but I remember fuck-all about them…but that first film; my lord I must have watched that fifty times in the late eighties alone! So, since it’s obviously waaaay past time for a re-visit to the frightful franchise, and since those delicious devils at Scream Factory have just put out a new Blu-ray collection featuring all for films, we begin my latest revoltin’ review for these hallowed haunted halls! To the surprise of no one we begin with: Critters (1986): A group of intergalactic convicts, who resemble the offspring of Fizzgig mating with a porcupine (and we both know that lil’ bastard totally would too), escape a prison asteroid and land near the farm of young

Blu-ray Review Attraction (2017)

On the eve of a massive meteor shower, a titanic damaged U.F.O. crash lands in Moscow. This sets off massive confusion among the citizenry with many resisting the arrival of our new-found brothers from the stars, some out of prejudice and others out of more personal reasons, such as Julia (Irina Starshenbaum) who’s best friend Sveta (Darya Rudenok) was inadvertently killed as the craft ripped the city apart during it’s landing. Soon Julia, along with her boyfriend Tyoma (Alexander Petrov) and his friends venture into ground zero to see what just what the aliens, who claim they wish for nothing more than to be left alone and repair their ship, are really up to! Unbeknownst to her pals, Julia finds out a secret about the aliens that causes her to have a change of heart…a change that leads to the fires of revolution and even love. But will all of that be enough to save the city, and just who

Blu-ray Review: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Dr. Miles J. Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) returns to his bucolic town after attending a medical convention to find the citizenry changed in subtle ways, such as a lack of genuine emotion and the fact that some folks claim their relatives are not whom they appear to be. Soon Miles gets caught up in the craziness after he is called on to investigate a body…a body with a face that remains unfinished and possesses no fingerprints. Things then go completely off the rails, as our hero discovers that plant-born changelings are taking he place of the townsfolk and he’s in for the fight of his life to stop their other-worldly machinations! Full of fantastic performances (with McCarthy being a spirited and game lead that goes from jovial to completely panic-stricken with equal aplomb, as well as notable appearances from Carolyn Jones, Dana Wynter, Larry Gates, and King Donovan…not to mention a cameo by Sam Peckinpah), a palpable sense of dread and

Blu-ray Review: 12 Monkeys (1995)

In a disease ravaged future, subterranean dwellin’ prisoner James Cole (Bruce Willis) is chosen to go back in time and find the source of the virus in a desperate plan to save the future…on a side note, he keeps having dreams of an airport shooting, but I’m sure that is unrelated and will not factor into the story at all. Anyway, our dude goes back a bit too far (to 1990 instead of 1996 to be precise). He is of course immediately considered a lunatic and incarcerated when he tells of his mission…but soon learns an organization with the catchy handle of the Army of the Twelve Monkeys has a role in the virus and that his fellow inmate, Jeffrey Goines (Brad Pitt) is involved with the whole affair in some part. Soon Cole is goin’ back and forth along the time stream like a yo-yo trying to put an end to that dastardly disease, but will he be up

Movie Review: Beyond the Sky (2018)

Chris Norton (Ryan Carnes) is a documentary filmmaker with a wild hair up his ass to disprove alien abductions. Ya see, his father Peter (Peter Stormare) claimed to have had such an experience, and the end result has made Chris a major douche to anyone who believes in such things. So off he goes to New Mexico, camera crew in tow, to be a thorn in the side of U.F.O. enthusiasts at a convention run by Bill Johnson (Don Stark)… and these folks have little patience for his ‘tude. This goes on until he meets Emily (Jordan Hinson); a pretty normal type o’ gal…except for the fact she claims she is abducted every seven years…and the time is almost nigh for another close encounter! When that event occurs will the truth be that aliens are taking rando folks and shoving stuff up their ass, or is it all a bunch of made up garbage as Chris believes…or is there a

Enjoy Your Trip! Game Review Of ‘Elea’ For Xbox One

Not long ago I talked about the upcoming surreal sci-fi game “Elea”. The game’s developers, Kyodai and Sodesco were kind enough to allow me the chance to review the game early before its September 6th release. The game itself is an episodic adventure telling the story of Elea, who’s on a journey through space to find her husband who’s gone missing along with his crewmates on a mission to find a new planet to colonize and now his ship was found but is mysteriously going through a quarantine procedure. After completing the first chapter it should be noted that the story I’ve played will be updated on launch day with a different beginning since I don’t know exactly how much of a change there will be, I’ll forgo focusing too much on the narrative I encountered in my playthrough. The main thing that blew me away was the graphics! Nicely detailed and textured, the colors are amazing and fit well

Movie Review: Apocalypse Rising (2018)

Apocalypse Rising is the type of film that gives you; people running around in togas, zombie mutants, U.F.O.s, over-the-top machismo, and a spaceship that looks like a giant cock…balls and all…within the first five mother fuckin’ minutes of it’s run time. I hope the rest of the film lives up to this splendor boils n’ ghouls… Anyway the rest goes like this; a ragtag group of Space Bible lovers head out to the stars to avoid some such bullshit (but it involves fucking, that’s for sure), and while in stasis they have crazy ass visions of Jesus being born as a demon while zombies turn Mary and Joseph into the shambling dead…so far so good. Moving on, our heroes find a new world, immediately dress like they should be travellin’ Fury Road to the Ren Faire, and before you can say Cannon Film’s Masters of the Universe, they find themselves on Earth in the modern age, where they join a

‘State Of Mind’ Review: A Stunningly Beautiful Sci-Fi Thriller

Daedalic Entertainment gave me access to their newly released sci-fi thriller, “State of Mind” that is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game takes place in Berlin where the year is 2045 and Earth’s health is declining. Technology is changing people’s lives for better and worse resulting in the rise of a terrorist group known as Breakpoint who are against the latest in technological advancements, especially with humanity’s reliance on drone, and robotic tech. The story of “State of Mind” is seen through the eyes of people from two dramatically different ends of the social spectrum, those who live in Berlin and those who live in the utopian city known as City 5. The first thing that stood out for me is the visual style of the game, for being low-poly, it’s beautiful! The scenery is absolutely stunning and visually appealing, reminding me of “Blade Runner” and the overall tone also reminding me of
