The Original Michael Myers Is Coming Home For The New ‘Halloween’

We first met the iconic silent killer Michael Myers back in 1978. John Carpenter’s masked creation has stalked Haddonfield, Il, our dreams, and our Halloweens ever since. After 40 years, Michael Myers, often referred to as “The Shape”, is coming home. Nick Castle, the man who originally wore the white mask, is returning to the role for the upcoming 2018 film, Bloody-Disgusting reports. While Castle will be “The Shape”, James Jude Courtney will be doing the stunts for the role. There’s more. Academy Award-winning VFX and make-up artist Christopher Nelson (Suicide Squad, Deadpool) has signed on for the David Gordon Green-directed film written by Danny McBride. We have previously reported that the film, which picks up 40 years after the original, will act as if the other sequels never existed. Jamie Lee Curtis will be reprising her role as Laurie Strode with Judy Greer cast as her daughter and Andi Matichak playing Laurie’s granddaughter. John Carpenter will consult, and executive

New Details Emerge for 2018’s “Halloween” Sequel

“Halloween” 2018 writer Danny McBride (yes, that Danny McBride) has revealed more details about the upcoming sequel. While we already knew John Carpenter would score and Jamie Lee Curtis would return, McBride’s interview with Yahoo has let loose some interesting tidbits. “We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one,” McBride confirmed. “It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality.“ “It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way,” McBride added, suggesting the new film may rewrite even the events of the original. ……I can’t be the only one whose REALLY not happy to hear that. Given McBride has no horror writing credits to his name, and barely any credits at all (one of the films he did notably write was the 2011 bomb “Your Highness.”) McBride does dress these concerns….sort of. “I think you should be very scared. I mean, this isn’t a comedy at all.” Said McBride.

We Need To Talk About Michael

News of Jamie Lee Curtis’s return to the long-running Halloween franchise almost broke the Internet a few weeks ago. Some online posts were akin to The Beatles US arrival or the announcement of The Force Awakens. Blumhouse has taken the reigns and hopes to run with it. Part of this Cynema post asks, “to where?” There is nothing wrong with what Blumhouse is doing. Films get made, they get sequels, they get remakes. Hats off to any franchise that lasts forty years and remains relevant. However, there are a number Cynema-like elements to this. While everyone gushes about what this means to horror, I am going to look at just what this means to horror. Fan Reaction Details trickled in not long after the initial euphoria. Would this new film ignore the events after Carpenter’s original ’78 film? The news of Judy Greer joining the new film as Laurie Strode’s daughter sent a new wave of concern among online nerd-dom.

Is Laurie Strode Returning To Haddonfield Next ‘Halloween’?

Jamie Lee Curtis coming back to play Laurie Strode? Is this a trick or is this a treat? Well, my Little Monsters, it appears to be a huge Halloween treat, indeed. Not for this Halloween mind you, but just in time for the big screen next Halloween. On the next Halloween film’s release date of October 19th of 2018 to be exact. In a post on Twitter, which you can see below, Jamie Lee has announced that Laurie Strode is indeed returning to Haddonfield after 40 years, for one last go ’round with her big bro, Michael Myers. https://twitter.com/jamieleecurtis/status/908760232016322560 Of course this would put Halloween fans in roughly the same position that Alien fans would have been in if they made the Neill Blomkamp film with Ripley and Hicks both returning. Basically one where you have to ignore, for better or worse, that certain chapters in the franchise even exist. I was already stoked when it was announced that Jason

Michael Myers Won’t Be Immortal In The New Halloween

Back in February we reported that Danny McBride and David Gordon Green will be bring Michael Myers back for a new film. The two who are writing the film, with Green directing, have dropped tidbits of information. They have said that they want to return Michael to his former glory in what is being described as a sequel to 1981’s Halloween II. In a recent interview with The Empire Film Podcast, McBride revealed that Michael will not have any supernatural or immortal properties. He will simply be a disturbed man in a mask. I think we’re just trying to strip it down and just take it back to what was so good about the original. It was just very simple and just achieved that level of horror that wasn’t corny. And it wasn’t turning Michael Myers into some supernatural being that couldn’t be killed— that stuff to me isn’t scary. I want to be scared by something that I really

The Writers Of Halloween (2018) Drop A Few Hints

Last month news came via Master of Horror John Carpenter that the upcoming Halloween movie would be in hands filmmaking team Danny McBride and David Gordon Green, with Green directing. Jason Blum of Blumhouse will produce the project. Did I mention that John Carpenter will be serving as executive producer? He is. Are you psyched yet? …So you say you want a Revolution? You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it, They blew me away. I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool. And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.” The next day Danny McBride revealed even more about the film: You know, it’s not a remake. It’s actually, it’s gonna continue to story

Spoon Fed Horror

Expect more from your entertainment. Don’t be spoon fed. Whether film, literature, music, even video gaming…refuse to be dumbed down. As I move over the half way point in post production for “Death House” I’ve had time to reflect on the film and wonder how it will be received. The latest news on yet another “Friday the 13th” installment is it will be an origins story. I guess my question is…was there ever that much there in the first place to warrant an origin backstory? Doesn’t it defeat the point of making a simple slasher film to entertain, scare and titillate? Do we really need an origins story whether on Pamela Vorhees or Jason or how Camp Crystal Lake was founded? The Millennial Generation and after are said to be too literal. They need everything spelled out for them. They have all the information they need on their phones. Why think? Why extrapolate? Hell, why even dream? School is taught

Micheal Myers Coming To TV?

Back in December we reported that Halloween Returns had been put on hold. Now, the word is Malek Akkad, the producer of the Halloween franchise, may be looking to move in a different direction. Michael Myers may be coming to a TV near you for a “limited series event”, meaning it would be restricted to 3 to 5 seasons. According to Fangoria there are meetings being held with network representatives now. Halloween might make an interesting series, as long as they deal with the whole Michael only returns on Halloween issue in a good way. Until a studio and network pick up the show we have to take it with grain of salt, a lot of potential series and films never make it to completion. After all, Halloween Returns is in that situation right now. Would you like to see a Halloween television series? Let us know on Twitter.
