The Serial Killer That Used Mind Control

When you hear of a serial killer, you automatically picture a deranged individual not afraid to get their hands dirty and get up close and personal with their victims. In movies we see a lot of killers so evil that they are capable of getting others to kill for them, thus keeping their hands clean of the crime…that’s just fantasy, right? In Japan, where major crimes are so rare that they don’t make national news, but one criminal, though not talked about much in the media anymore, is engrained in the public consciousness, Futoshi Matsunaga, the infamous Mind Control Killer. By clinical standards, Matsunaga is the perfect example of a Psychopath, someone who feels no remorse or emotion when it comes to right and wrong, since he was young he stood out from his peers as he was very social, gifted with a silver tongue it seems and was a disciplinary problem in high school. At 19 he married and

Preview: Welcome Autumn With The ‘Moon Festival’ Box From BOKKSU

It’s September and even though the weather may say its still summer, our hearts are in fall. What’s not to love about autumn? Cooler nights, leafs changing colors, pumpkin/apple/maple flavored things, and the fact of knowing that Halloween is around the corner! Also, one thing many people like about fall is all the harvest festivals. As much as I love a traditional harvest festival, it gets kind of boring. Well, BOKKSU was awesome enough to send me a preview of their upcoming Moon Festival box! BOKKSU is a monthly subscription like a lot of those box sites, but this one sends you snacks directly from Japan! Each month the box is themed and for September, the theme is based on the traditional Japanese Moon viewing festival (also known as Tsukimi, Otsukimi, or Jugoya). This year the celebration is on September 13th to the 16th. The festival is to celebrate the arrival of the fall harvest moon and to welcome autumn.

Opinion: Why ‘The Terror: Infamy’ Will Be The Greatest Show This Summer

On August 12th the second season of AMC’s The Terror will premier. This season’s installment titled The Terror: Infamy will follow in the footsteps of the first season where a historical event is a backdrop for a horror story. While the flagship (no pun intended) season and series are based on the novel by Dan Simmons, the second season is original. Seeing the trailers, pictures, and tweets, I have come to the conclusion that The Terror: Infamy will be the greatest show on TV this summer. The Setting The story takes place during one of the most controversial moments during the Second World War, the imprisonment of Americans of Japanese descent. After the events of Pearl Harbor aka “the Day of Infamy”, Americans of Japanese descent were put into Internment Camps as the US government believed that individuals of Japanese ancestry would sympathize with the Imperial Japanese Government and attack America from within. It was later determined that this course

Cult Leader’s Remains In Legal Limbo

It’s been a year since Shoko Asahara (real name Chizuo Matsumoto), leader of the Aum Shinrikyo cult was executed by hanging in a Tokyo prison. The cult’s core teachings surround the idea of preparing to re-inhabit the earth after a nuclear war between the United States and Japan. To bring this apocalyptic vision come true, Asahara ordered members of his cult to carry out a chemical attack on the Tokyo subway system in 1995 with the belief that this would kick start the apocalypse. Asahara was sentenced to death in 2004 for his part in orchestrating the gas attack not just in Tokyo but in the city of Matsumoto, as well as ordering the murder of Tsutsumi Sakamoto in 1989. Asahara was hung on July 6, 2018, along with six other cult members one of whom was involved with the murder of Sakamoto and his family. One of the perpetrators of the Sakamoto killing, Hideo Murai, never saw his day

‘Momo’ Artist Speaks Out

Keisuke Aiso is an artist and the head of a special effects company called Link Factory, which makes props for Japanese TV shows. In 2016 he exhibited a some creepy looking sculptures in a series titled Onnen. One of the sculptures at the time was a three-foot-tall woman-bird hybrid that acted as the artist’s vision of the Japanese Yōkai Ubume, this creature takes on the form of either a woman who died at childbirth or a bird-like creature that mimics the sounds of babies and attacks children. The latex creature was simply called Ubume but it earned a new name, later on, Momo, the centerpiece of the latest internet urban legend and hoax. Momo is said to contact children through the internet and threaten them into completing challenges that usually involve self-harm or suicide as the story goes. This leads to great panic recently as parents took to the web and started to warn others of the supernatural threat. Aiso,

Blu-ray Review: Orgies of Edo (1969)

I know what you’re thinking…and yes, pretzel Combos do suck…oh, and this film is probably a porno, what with the word “orgies” front and center in the title; but believe me, when I detail the subject matter at hand you’ll be thankful it’s just one of your average, run of the mill, unbelievably sadistic flicks featuring a parade of violence towards women. Phew, dodged a bullet there, eh boils n’ ghouls? Anyway, Orgies of Edo is comprised of three tales, and we’ll be taking a brief look at each one. After whatever the unholy hell the opening of this film is (I can tell you it features some sort of human drag queen marionette and a woman with four titties), we begin our first story which details the heartwarming adventures of Oito (Masumi Tachibana); a naive woman who is sold into prostitution, suffers torture and humiliation, and enters into a love affair with the man responsible for her miserable lot

Doomsday Cult Leader Executed

As of Friday morning of July 6th, 2018 (Japan Time) and Thursday evening of July 5th, 2018 (EST), infamous cult leader Shoko Asahara (63) was put to death by hanging along with five other cult members. Asahara was the leader of the Doomsday cult Aum Shinrikyo whose core belief is that Japan and the United States would engage in a nuclear war that will wipe out humanity. The cult that was inspired by many mangas and animes (the most influential one being ‘Akira’) was responsible for many heinous crimes across Japan ranging from kidnappings to murder, the most notable incident being the 1995 nerve gas attack in the Tokyo Subway that killed 12 and injured thousands. According to Asahara’s doctrine, the gas attack(s) would spark a war between the US and Japan leading to the apocalypse. Months before the Tokyo Subway attack, a similar incident took place in Matsumoto, a residential area where gas was released from a truck that
