What Is Cynema?

What Is Cynema? For those of you wanting to be filmmakers, screenwriters or even actors, this blog is a way to address a trend that’s been gaining cultural power in the entertainment world. It is not column about how much you “love” or “hate” a movie. This will look at certain films that fit criteria called “Cynema” while other films examined will be those deserving of a second chance and look. Cynema: The cynical practice of contempt for an audience in the making of product that is devoid of creativity, passion, production value or respect while having the financial and creative means to do better. Some films in the following list are Cynema while others deserve a second look: Jaws 3D, Jaws The Revenge (aka Jaws 4), King Kong 1976, King Kong Lives, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Popeye, 1941, Waterworld, Gojira (1954), Godzilla 1998, The 4th Dimension, Psycho III, Alien 3, They Live, are examples of “Cynema” while

When Filmmakers Strike Back

Keyboard Warriors A bane of social media is the “Inspirational Tweeter.” This is the person whose life is going so well, they feel the need to tell you how you too can find the happiness they have. They’re a digital Hallmark Card, the cyber chicken soup for the soul. It’s amazing how much annoyance can be packed into 140 characters. Another facet is the “Hipster Movie Reviewer.” These are the folks (usually male) with a blog or You Tube Channel who think they know about movies. Some are ballsy enough to take on real reviewers like Scott Weinberg and tell THEM how they’re wrong or “set them straight” especially when it comes to super hero or Adam Sandler films. These “reviewers” usually have little production value. Their videos are shot with no lighting or professional sound and while some have under 50 views they usually start their critiques with “Hey Everyone…” Everyone? You mean the 6 viewers minus the ones

NOT A REBOOT. NOT A REMAKE. IT’S A REPACKAGING

The Summer of the Dinosaur Dinosaurs clobbered the combined super hero talents of The Avengers. They also handed Schwarzenegger his T-800 ass. Interestingly all three films are bred from the same cynical experiment that might have started in JJ Abrams’s lab…repackaging. Cynema has evolved or been upgraded much like Arnie’s T800 at the end of the latest Terminator franchise. My definition of Cynema says that a movie is made deliberately bad even if the filmmakers have the means to do it better. In the case of Jurassic World, Terminator Genysis and Star Trek: Into Darkness they are beautifully produced films, but all the more deceptive. These films all lack a central thing: a well done script. All three of these films are not unfolding stories, but rather set pieces stitched together with basic dialogue and character development to push things toward the next set piece. The argument could be made, that in a few years, the need for directors and

“Shadow of Evil” is the newest chapter in Call of Duty Zombies series

Light your cigars and load up your Tommy guns because the newest “Call of Duty:Zombies” mode was revealed yesterday at San Diego Comic-con and will put players into the 1940s and will star Heather Graham, Robert Picardo, Neal McDonough, Ron Pearlman and Mr. Brundlefly himself Jeff Goldblum. The gameplay itself still looks like it will retain the classic “Zombies” mode that fans come to love and instead of using a transit system like in “Black Ops 2” will instead put players into a huge open world just like the last two DLCs for “Black Ops 2”. Where it gets interesting are the 3 things that appear in the trailer; Firstly we see a magically gumball machine that dispenses gumballs for your character to chew on, depending on which one you get it seems can alter game play in both small and large scales, I saw one person get a full ammo reload dropped right in front of them, I saw

New Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 “Juggernog” Edition annouced

Look at that bad boy! “Call of Duty: Black ops 3” will be releasing this November and the one thing has got most people exciting (especially me!) is the latest in Treyarch’s long line of Zombie modes, starting back in 2008’s “Call of Duty: World At War” “Zombies” as the game mode has been dubbed started out as just putting 4 players in an enclosed area and had the surviving for as long as they could against an endless onslaught of zombies, thanks to it’s fun gameplay and creativity to the mode, “Zombies” became a main-stay and with every installment to the “Call of Duty” franchise developer studio “Treyarch” would come with “Zombie” mode. “Zombies” became so popular in the “Call of Duty” franchise that players demanded that they put it into last year’s “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” and Treyarch didn’t even develop it! Seeing its popularity Activision, the publisher of the “Call of Duty” franchise decided to capitalize

Video Game Review: DeadRising 3

Dead Rising 3 came out 2 years ago as a launch game exclusive to the Xbox One, It’s the third installment in the “Dead Rising” series and aimed to not only improve the series but introduce “Next-Gen’ gaming to everyone and honestly it kind of did. The “Dead Rising” series has been about letting players loose into a zombie apocalypse and really just had you surviving for 7 days waiting for the military and during those 3 days let you do whatever whether it be fighting bosses, rescuing other survivors or discovering the truth behind the outbreak and the games always had multiple endings to attribute to how you played the game, so if you just ran through it you’d probably get a bad ending with everyone dying or if you completed everything gave you a good ending, I am personally not sure because I had always gotten bored with “Dead Rising 1 & 2” mainly due to the cluttered

A games that takes what our fans tell us they love about ‘Dead Island’…” It continues “…multiple different characters to play with , co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that.
