Movie Review: The Devil’s Well is Well Worth Dipping Into!

The Devil’s Well concerns the misadventures of a husband and wife paranormal investigation team that arrive in a small town to investigate a hotspot called The Devil’s Well (‘natch). Well the wife of the duo, Karla, goes missing, and the chief suspect is of course her husband Bryan is suspecto numero uno (I’m a cunning linguist my fiends). Presented in documentary format (with a nice variety of interviews, camera footage, news reports etc.), we get to learn all the facts of the case including that the victim’s family was morally opposed to Karla’s work with the supernatural. Soon we learn that the well, located in a basement of all places, is a rumored portal to hell with a long and sordid past, and our heroes begin an investigation which leads to Karla’s disappearance. Flash forward a year, and a new party, including Bryan, return to the arcane abode to attempt to find ol’ Karla…and of course they find so much

The (Stranger) Thing

In 2002 fans of the movie The Thing where able to partake in a new chapter of the film’s universe by playing the 3rd person survival horror game, ‘The Thing’ where players take on the role of Captain Blake, a Special Forces soldier sent in with a rescue team to find survivors at the doomed U.S. Outpost 31 from John Carpenter’s film. Long story short, the events of the film and this game were part of some nefarious plot by a Biotechnology company called Gen-Inc who has subterranean research facilities all around Antarctica studying the alien organism in which a certain strain of the “Virus” was developed to be used in Biological Warfare. The game surprisingly did very well in the ratings and in 2003 the game’s developing company, Computer Artworks, were in the works to make a sequel to the game picking up where it left off, Blake flying off in a helicopter with R.J. MacReady, the protagonist from

Players Facing Death In ‘Visage’

For gamers that like in your face horror games that give you the feeling that you’re living a horror movie experience, SadSquare Studio brings the horror home in ‘Visage’. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game will most likely be released in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and yes, there will be a VR option! The title of the game comes from the old French/Latin word that means a person’s face or facial expression which is fitting since the game’s tagline seems to be, “Each death has its Visage.” ‘Visage’ takes place in the 1980’s in a large house where the player lives. The house over the years has been plagued by violent deaths in nearly every room. Players explore the house to unravel the mysteries it holds by witnessing the deaths of the past while at the same time trying to not attract too much dark energy by being afraid. In some respect the game visually

Movie Review: Desolation Will Make Sure Your Terror Is Televised!

Desolation begins with a woman dousing herself in alcohol and lighting herself ablaze in front of a rolling camera…talk about your all over hot foot, eh fiends?!! We then switch gears to focus on sad sack hotel worker Katie (Dominik García-Lorido) who soon begins hanging out with movie star Jay ( Brock Kelly) who’s in town to film some sort of movie or some such shit. Anyway, he’s unhappy being a star, she’s unhappy just being Katie, and the two funsters become chummy (a.k.a. they take the express train to Bone Town). Long story short; Jay brings Katie to Hell A. where she begins trading her memories for fortune and fame, and finds herself just a step away from the edge of a fall…you could say caught between heaven and hell even (where’s the girl I knew 15 minutes ago?). Before long, Katie begins seeing ghostly visions within the confines of Jay’s nearly deserted (and creepy A.F.) apartment building, and

Movie Review: House of Salem is a Demonic Dwelling Worth Visiting!

A young dude is put to bed by his smoke show of a babysitter and proceeds to have a series of nightmarish visions that resemble The Wicker Man if it was directed by Clive Barker…most likely because he ditches his meds before takin’ the one way express to nighty-night junction…or so it seems. Then some punks dressed as clowns kidnap the lad (who’s name is Josh), and so House of Salem begins proper. While the story begins with what seems like a simple kidnapping, things soon are revealed to be so much more, as our gang of big top hoodlums find they were duped into kidnapping young Josh by some sinister satanists who want to orchestrate a revoltin’ ritual involving that hoary ol’ chestnut; human sacrifice within the walls of the safe house (a home with a storied history of Satanic shenanigans). Before you know it, our hooligan heroes are up to their arses in hellish goings-on that they are

Movie Review: The Blackcoat’s Daughter will Possess Your Soul!

The students of Bradford Academy are all leaving to spend winter break with their families…everyone except bizarro Kat and Catholic School Rizzo surrogate Rose; ‘cuz their parents apparently give less than two shits about them and fail to show up to spirit them away. The girls are now left alone at the perpetually grey and dour school where they have an uneventful stay until their parents arrive. The end. Okay, that’s complete nonsense as I forgot to mention, there’s some sort of malevolent force haunting the school, so supernatural shenanigans abound six ways to Sunday. Adding to the goings-on is a mysterious woman named Joan who is hellbent for Bradford; though why she wants to get there is unclear at first…but trust me when you find out it’s a real corker! Unlike ol’ Atomica above; The Blackcoat’s Daughter is a slow-burn fright flick done right! Dripping with atmosphere, creeptastic tension (those pregnant pauses!), and off-kilter characters, this film is definitely

Movie Review: Paranormal Farm Brings a Horror Harvest Worth Seeing!

In the latest entry in the massively saturated found footage fright flick genre, Paranormal Farm, a documentary film maker is called to an extremely rural farm to try and prove whether the location is actually haunted. He records everything (of course…wouldn’t be much of a ‘found footage’ film without any ‘footage’), and shows signs of being freaked the F out before he even enters the domicile and meets it’s salt of the Earth occupants. After a bit of investigation (and learning about the family’s tragedy) the owners leave, and our hero is left alone in the home. Wandering the grounds, he inexplicably encounters men in clown masks which continue to terrorize him further back at the homestead. After inviting the spirit to use him as a vessel…to complete success…our protagonist has had about enough of the house and all it’s bullshit, and bolts to the trailer where the owners are staying during the investigation. This leads to some shocking information…and

Questions Are Answered, A Review Of ‘Resident Evil 7’s DLC, ‘Not A Hero’

I waited until midnight of the 12th and got the free DLC ‘Not a Hero’, installed it and played it. The only complaint I had about the game was that it was an hour long, being a free download I guess there’s really nothing to be too upset about. The controls for the game are the same as the main story but you’re equipped with only two weapons, a high powered pistol, and a semi-automatic shotgun. You also have a knife and grenades. The options you set up for the main story carry over into the DLC (screen brightness, subtitles, language, etc). Onto the story (Possible Spoilers) first thing, if you have not played the main story, play that first or else the ‘Not a Hero’ makes no sense. The story takes place immediately after the events of the main story. You play as Chris Redfield, a veteran character from the game series, before I continue I’ll address the big

Movie Review: The Rizen Raises the Bar For Lovecraft Inspired Fright Flicks!

As The Rizen begins, a young woman named Frances finds herself being dragged by the arm down a long, gore soaked hallway by a gurgling, chattering, sumbitch with his head wrapped in filthy bandages. What the creature doesn’t realize is he is not dragging a normal woman…no, he is in fact dragging a powder keg of unreasonable violence that merely looks like a woman, and before long ol’ Frances is bashing beastly brains into hamburger with a rock. As she travels on she meets a scientist (neither of our heroes are certain how they ended up in this location), and the duo travel on, fighting more of the monstrous madmen as they come. As our protagonists trek ever onward they unravel some of the mystery surrounding the tunnels, and how they got there; namely a military project to utilize the occult to win the arms race…which of course went over without a single hitch. I’m just F’n with you, it
