Who Ya Gonna Call Out?

Critical Thinking Cynema is not a film review series. Ghostbusters 2016 got a lot of shit before it was released. This article is a companion piece to my previous “Critical Thinking” essay. Ghostbusters 2016 is not funny and as a result I will argue that it’s really not a movie. The trailer holds a record for most negative comments on YouTube. There is a reason for this, however, the venomous personal attacks against one of its stars, Leslie Jones, were unwarranted and inexcusable. All of that aside, I am going to use Cynema to explain with critical thinking, why this film was a failure and arguably not a true film. Ghostbusters 2016, Answer the Call, whatever…is another studio bait and switch. This has nothing to do with a female cast. It’s not a racial thing. So let’s get the misogyny and race baiting out of the way. Ghostbusters 2016 wouldn’t have been funny even if the original actors starred. Does

The Strangers’ Ciarán Foy Begins Production On The Paranormal Thriller Eli

Filmmaker Ciarán Foy, has already made a big splash in the genre with his films Citadel and Sinister II. The first information had been revealed for Foy’s psychological thriller Eli and I can’t wait to see it. The film centers on Eli, a young boy undergoing treatments for a rare disease in a secluded clinic. The clinic in reality is a haunted former prison, that has no way out. With paranormal aspects, Eli is based on the script originally written by David Chirchirillo and rewritten by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, the writing duo are behind The Autopsy of Jane Doe (review). Deadline reports that filming is set to begin this summer. Trevor Macy is producing under Intrepid Pictures’ banner.

Possessed Man Caught On Video In Brazilian Hospital

On February 27, 2017 a staff member of Miguel Couto Hospital in Rio de Janerio, Brazil recorded footage of hospital staff interacting with a man who had been shot in the face. The other part of the story, he is allegedly suffering demonic possession. According to the Brazilian newspaper Noticianob, the man was brought into the hospital after being shot in the face while high on drugs. But many are saying he was possessed, including the hospital staff. There is no word on exactly who shot him or why. In the footage you can hear staff in the background saying (in Portuguese), “You are not powerful! You are not powerful!” The man responds with “I am better than you. You are corrupted. I am working with Lucifer.” The staff used gurneys and chairs to keep the man at bay. If you believe in the supernatural, the video may lead you to believe that something otherworldly and powerful is at work.

Lights Out And An Irresponsible Message About Depression.

What most people don’t know about clinical depression is quite a lot. I have personally been diagnosed with it, and yet I am in no way an expert about its biological intricacies. What I do know and what I can tell you is that clinical depression is not equivalent to simple sadness. So to tell a person who suffers from any clinical form of depression to “try and cheer up”, “do something fun to get your mind off things”, or any number of other suggestions that have nothing to do with fixing brain chemistry or psychological trauma, is frankly dismissive and unhelpful. What is helpful, is for those who do suffer from a form of clinical depression to seek treatment. If you have followed me this far, I sincerely thank you, my Little Monsters. I promise I will tie Lights Out to my spiel, but if you haven’t seen it…be warned, there are SPOILERS ahead. The basic premise of Lights

The True History Of The Ouija Board – Ouija: Origin Of Evil Now In Theaters

‘Ouija: Origin of Evil‘ is now in theaters nationwide. Ouija boards, even though they are sold as games, can be truly terrifying. Many believe that they are a gateway to communicating with the dead. Others believe that they are just a game by Hasbro. But, they were once much more serious. How much do you know about the “talking board”? Let me fill you in on how it came to be. Almost every one of us have used a Ouija board at least once in our lives. More than likely the first experience you had with a board was at a sleep over asking silly questions like “Who will I marry?” or “Is Elvis really dead?”. At some point you probably got spooked and swore to never use one again, I know I did. Then there are those who seek answers and communications with those beyond in a more serious note. The word Ouija alone conjures fear and mystery. The

The Irish Film ‘The Wake’ Now Live On Indiegogo

One of the ways indie horror filmmakers raise funds for production is through sites like Indiegogo. These campaigns are great because horror fans have the ability to not only see the film but also have an opportunity to be part of films. This month writer-director Rik Gordon is running an Indiegogo campaign in the hopes of raising funds for his upcoming short Irish horror film ‘The Wake’. The funds will go to special effects and makeup for the project and in return you will get great perks. Gordon had this to say about the film: “The Wake is a new and exciting short Irish horror film set around a traditional Irish wake. I want to create a film that will be an experience to watch; have strong, vivid characters, creepy, scary and suspenseful scenes and practical special effects with lots of blood! An Irish wake consists of a lot of strange and old traditions which I am warping into a

Turns out FOX’s The Exorcist isn’t a remake! It’s a continuation and EW just dropped a brand new photo to go along with the brand new trailer that was released. The new promo pic features a girl with her head turned backwards, just like the classic Linda Blair scene in 1976 that went down in horror history. Here’s what Jeremy Slater who penned the pilot had to say to Entertainment Weekly If you watch the pilot, you’ll see that we have some…homages to some of the famous moments [from the film]. You’ll see there’s a scene where they reference the original exorcisms in Georgetown. That’s our way of letting fans know that the story you love isn’t being written out of existence. [But] this is a new story with new characters that takes place in the same universe as the original film. The original Exorcist film followed the story of the MacNiel family being struck by the possession of young Reagan

The Shallows Scribe Setting Sail With New Haunted Ship Film ‘Mary’

The Shallows is doing great in theaters and it’s no surprise that those attached to the killer shark movie are already moving on to their next projects. Anthony Jaswinski, the scribe behind The Shallows, has just signed with Tooley Productions, after a competitive bidding situation, on his script for a supernatural ship film titled Mary, Deadline reports. Image: Zimbio The film will follow a struggling family who purchases an old ship at an auction, with the hopes of starting a charter business.
