Movie Review: Bus Party to Hell (2017)

After a cold open where Tara Reid decapitates a dude in a top hat (honestly, we are off to a very promising start) we get into the meat and potatoes of Bus Party to Hell…namely a group of attractive, horny, drunks head out across the desert in a party bus (we also get nudity within the first five minutes…that’s two for you movie…keep the momentum going) while a few miles away Tara returns to battle mummies (as a woman’s top flies off..,is it legal to marry a film, ‘cuz I think I want this one in my life forever). Anyway, as fate, and fright flick tropes, would have it, our raunchy revelers are soon waylaid by a group of Satanic cannibals after that cacophonous conveyance of theirs breaks down. Trapped inside the bus with death lurking just outside, can our hard partyin’ protagonists survive the night? As you can tell by my enthusiasm above, I am pretty into what Bus

Movie Review: Night of the Virgin (2016)

Uber-nerd Nico (Javier Bódalo…in an impressively cartoonish performance) is dead set on losing his virginity on New Year’s Eve…and it seems like that is precisely what will happen when he encounters Medea (Miriam Martín) a Super Coug on the prowl who invites him home to her ultra filthy, bug infested apartment (but hey, any port in a storm, amirite?). Once there he engages in awkward dancing, gets a lesson in the history of the Nepalese Goddess Naoshi, and finds a cup of period blood in the bathroom…which he tastes (all as one does). Before long, Madea’s recently estranged boyfriend, Spider (Víctor Amilibia) arrives at her door demanding entrance after being whipped into a frenzy by some fake fuckery…and there he remains as blood mixes with semen (don’t ask…but there is underwear involved) and we discover that a child must be born to Naoshi via Madea or all life will end…but that may be a bit complicated as she is starting

Blu-ray Review: The Mimic (2017)

Hee-yeon (Jung-ah Yum) moves with her family to the Korean countryside following a family tragedy (namely the disappearance of her son) that has taken a toll on their mental state (as you would imagine such a thing would). Everything seems simple enough with the bucolic life, but soon a body is found within a brick wall deep in the woods while simultaneously a mute waif shows up who Hee-yeon takes in…this is not going to go well. Anyway, soon the child begins perfectly mimicking the voice of our heroine’s daughter and acting like a complete weirdo (okay, this kid is strange right from the get-go). Before you can say “boo” the ol’ paranormal activity in the house goes from “zero” to “fucked up” and the already strained family relations become even worse. Can our protagonists survive the outre attack, or will their reality come crashing down?!! Filled with slick cinematography, a suitably drab color pallet, and strong acting (in particular

Movie Review: King Cohen: The Wild World of Film Maker Larry Cohen (2017)

Starting at his cinema obsessed childhood and working it’s way into his existence as a true legend of exploitation cinema; King Cohen: The Wild World of Film Maker Larry Cohen is a fascinating look into the life and times of a comedian turned Director (and Writer…and Producer) responsible for some of the greatest titles our beloved horror biz has to offer, such as: The It’s Alive Trilogy, The Stuff, Q: The Winged Serpent, God Told Me To and many more! Over the course of an hour and forty seven minutes we take a break neck journey into just what it took to get Cohen’s legendary horror and Blaxploitation flicks to the silver screen including; filming cars driving down the sidewalks of New York City, simulated gun shots and film fights, daring stunts…all without planning, permits, or on lookers being clued in to the fact that a motion picture is being filmed. It’s guerrilla film making at it’s best, and infused

Movie Review: Inheritance (2017)

It’s a banner day for ol’ Ryan (Chase Joliet); he’s just out sawing some wood (as one does) when a man informs him he has inherited a house from his biological father…a dude he thought bit the big one multiple years ago. Before long Ryan, with his pregnant fiance in tow, heads out to the bucolic coastal town and takes up residence in the spacious abode. Once there, R-man begins a slow slide down the slippery slope of going batshit insane as he begins to unravel his family’s dark history and the blight upon the land on which the mansion sits. Packed with equal parts family drama and slow burn horror, Inheritance (the debut feature for Director Tyler Savage) is a well paced decent into madness and implied supernatural shenanigans. While the story is definitely filled with well worn fright flick tropes (the inheritance of a “haunted house”, dark family secrets, ghostly hallucinations…hell even that hoary ol’ chestnut the “Indian

Blu-ray Review: Shocking Dark (1989)

In Venice, after the amazing future year 2000, a toxic cloud hangs low killing all life. To make matters worse, there are hideous mutant creatures stalking the tunnels below the city…and they are turning people into monsters! In a totally original, completely unique bit of storytelling, a group of badass marines, a civilian woman (a scientist by trade), and a company man from the Tubular Corporation (a division of Radical Incorporated and Fuckin’ Awesome LLC) are sent in to investigate the infestation. What follows is Aliens…except for the ending, which inexplicably rips-off something else that you won’t believe! I’m going to go on the record here and state I don’t give a flying fuck how much director Bruno Mattei and Screen Writers Claudio Fragasso and Rossella Drudi stole from Cameron’s masterpiece; Shocking Dark is one hell of an entertaining fright flick in it’s own right, due mainly from a game performance from the legendary Geretta Geretta, fun creature suits, amazingly

Blu-ray Review: Zombi 4: After Death (1989)

Scientists on a remote island, working on a cure for cancer, inadvertently piss off the local voodoo priest who raises the dead to rid his land of the “evil” science (he also performs one hell of a spell involving laser energy, vomit, and a pit to hell conveniently located within his temple hideaway…all of which results in his wife being resurrected as a toothy demoness). Flash forward many years and the daughter of some of the scientists mentioned previous returns to scene of the creepy crime along with a handful of hard ass mercenaries to make sure the evil stays buried. Speaking of “hard” and “ass” there are also a group of researchers on the island whose ranks include a dude named Chuck (played by gay porn actor Jeff Stryker) who are attempting to ascertain what happened to the scientists that disappeared (good luck making sense of that mystery my lovelies). Anyway, it’s that exact brain trust that causes the

Blu-ray Review: Zombi 3 (1988)

Scientists on an island in the Philippines are trying to resurrect the dead with the help of a chemical agent…a chemical which gets stolen by a thief who soon becomes exposed after dropping the case. Eventually ol’ butter fingers makes his way to a hotel where he infects the entire staff. Thankfully the military steps in and fucks things up six ways to Sunday by cremating the bodies after containing the outbreak. Now zombie birds attack everyone pecking their way to a major zombie outbreak. In the center of the fray are Kenny (Deran Sarafian) and his gang of soldier friends, who along with a group of comely lasses, attempt to stay alive as they are besieged on all sides by ravenous gut munchers! To say I “like” Zombi 3 would be an understatement…I fuckin’ love it, and have for years. It’s gloriously gory, stupid, and action packed in equal measure! This is the type of film where a severed

Movie Review: Sequence Break (2018)

Oz (Chase Williamson) toils his days away in a failing warehouse as a repairman for vintage arcade cabinets. After being told by his boss that the operation is closing, our hero heads to bar to drink away his blues…though this is short lived as he heads back to the warehouse to bury himself in work, upon doing which he discovers a new game that before you can say Polybius begins to infect him with hallucinatory images after he plays it. As days pass, Oz’s reality becomes a Cronenbergian wet dream of bio-mechanical, hyper-sexualized fever dreams…and visits from a bizarre, violence prone transient. Can Oz keep his humanity as he becomes one with the machine? Sequence Break is a great throwback to the works of Cronenberg mixed up with video game horror yarns such as the Beat the Bishop segment of 1983’s Nightmares…and it plays perfectly into thoughts all of us arcade addicts who were there in the golden days harbored…what

DVD Review: The Violence Movie (1988)

A deranged, shades sportin’, killer (David Wilkinson) on the lam walks right on into the home of a teen named Joey (Joseph Shaughnessy) like the mother fuckin’ cool breeze he is. While there he dons a Freddy Kruger mask and waits for J-man to get home…which when said event occurs leads to a full on WWE style brawl that nothing can stop (the sound effects alone are worth whatever you pay for this DVD)…not even the arrival of Joey’s friend (How do we know he’s our hero’s friend? Why he announces “Hey Joe, it’s me your best friend!” before he gets his throat slashed). Will Joey survive this epic confrontation? (Actually this shit is going to be spoiled for you in like another paragraph or so, so you have been warned) Running a stately 14 minutes, The Violence Movie is a bargain basement gore packed de-fuckin’-light! It’s shot right on a VHS camcorder, and is nothing more than some slasher
