Game Review: ‘Trepang2’

Many FPS games have evolved to become either as realistic as possible or very technical. This removes a lot of the fun for old-school FPS gamers like myself. I’ve played and reviewed some FPS games on here, and though they’re fun, they miss some of that over-the-top charm. Trepang Studios and Team 17 have brought the classic FPS feel with their game, Trepang2. In Trepang2, players take on the role of a soldier who escaped from a secret facility and is now on a mission to fight back against his captors, a corrupt corporation. The soldier may not have his memories, but he has superhuman abilities that make him skilled in combat, where he can use these skills against his enemies, both human…and something else. You will have to allow some time to get used to Trepang2‘s controls as they’re somewhat similar to other FPS controls and yet somewhat different. The game’s sound design is awesome. I can’t stress this

Game Review: ‘Afterdream’

You have to admit dreams suck sometimes, especially those dreams where you’re dreaming within a dream. Nothing makes you feel more messed up than one of those, but what if it was a nightmare? This, is the question presented by Jesse Makkonen, Gamera, and Feardemic Games’ Afterdream. Thanks to Feardemic for sending me a copy to see if this is a dream or a nightmare. Let’s see! Afterdream is a 2D side-scrolling psychological horror where players take on the role of Jennifer, a young woman who just lost her father and has a lucid dream that makes her question if she’s dreaming or is awake. Controls in Afterdream are minimal, but I wish there were options to turn off controller vibrations, as having the controller vibrate for every little thing and draining battery life is quite annoying. The lack of spoken dialogue is made up for with a soundtrack that sets the mood. There are times. When spooky things happen,

Add Some Flair To Your Bases With Epic Basing!

The adventure into Tabletop RPGs continues for me, and I’m starting to get into the concept of world-building. By world-building, I’m talking from a terrain-building point of view. The most important part of creating your world is Basing, this is when you make the base for your character or base for props more lively with decorations. The most common method is adding grass or texture to your base, but sometimes, you need to add a little more oomph to tell the story. This is where Epic Basing comes in! First, I would like to thank all the awesome folks at Epic Basing for making this adventure possible! Epic Basing makes 3D-printed bits that you can use to add some flare to your miniature’s base OR to the terrane you’re creating. In the main picture returns the Werewolf miniature from 1985 Games but this time, he has a little friend on his base, a skull that came from the Skull Collector

Game Review: ‘Separate Ways’ DLC

Fans of the Resident Evil 4 remake can look forward to more action today with the release of the DLC titled Separate Ways which features the mysterious Ada Wong and her activities during the events of the game’s main story. I want to thank CAPCOM for helping out with making this review possible! In Separate Ways, players take on the role of Ada Wong as she’s on a secret mission in the Spanish countryside home to the Los Iluminados cult. For returning players, the controls are the same as in the main story except for a couple of new unique mechanics. Just like I said in my review of the main story, when it comes to sound, headphones are a must! The sound design is great, the soundtrack gets your heart pumping, and Lily Gao’s performance fits with the character of Ada. Gao’s performance of Ada took her from being a flirty mystery eye-candy to what Ada truly is: a

Game Review: ‘Gloomhaven’

I’m still just getting into dungeon crawlers and tabletop RPGs, so when the opportunity arises for me to dip my feet into the blood-soaked earth of these worlds, I’ll take it. This brings us to Gloomhaven, a tactical RPG dungeon crawler based on the 2017 multi-award-winning board game of the same name. I want to thank Twin Sails and Saber Interactive for the reviewing opportunity. In Gloomhaven, players take control of and guide mercenaries through the world. You also have encounters before the scenario (quests) you’re going to. The choices you make will affect your mercenaries in the upcoming battle. In every dungeon, the combat is turn-based, and players use cards with two options on each. These cards usually have options for movement, attack, and abilities like healing, buffing teammates, etc. There are tutorials, but if you’re new to this gameplay, you should set time aside to learn. I enjoy the art of the world of Gloomhaven, including the character

Game Review: ‘Ad Infinitum’

War is Hell, and so is the human mind, but when both collide, how can one tell one nightmare from another? This is what awaits players in Ad Infinitum. I’ve been keeping an eye on this game since I became the Gamer Guy here at Horror Fuel, and now that it’s finally here, you can bet I’m all over it! I want to give Hekate Studio and NACON a big thank you for sending over a copy! In Ad Infinitum, a young, troubled German soldier is living a nightmare that’s taking him back and forth between the trenches of WWI, and his family’s Berlin mansion. Along with reliving the horror of what he saw in combat and the war within his household, he is also facing otherworldly terrors. Now, on to the game itself! Ad Infinitum‘s controls remind me a lot of the Amnesia games with how you interact with the game’s environment, so it’s easy to learn and remember
