Blu-ray Review: Ultra Seven (1967 – 1968)

Continuing on with their presentation of the original Ultraman television episodes (the first two volumes of which I reviewed here), Mill Creek Entertainment brings us 1967’s Ultra Seven (which coincidentally is the Ultra series I’ve seen the most of thanks to TNT broadcasting dubbed episodes of the series in the mid-’90s). The long and the short of UltraSeven goes as follows: like a hot second from now, Earth finds itself balls deep in alien monsters… monsters that are hell bent on rippin’ our home turf a brand-new asshole. Not one to just sit on their collective asses, the Terrestrial Defense Force establishes the Ultra Garrison, a gaggle of folks that use the ultimate in technology to mix things up with those space bastards right quick! Now that’s all well and good, but the real ace-in-the-hole of the Garrison is the addition of Dan Moroboshi, a mystery man that isn’t really a “man” at all, but is in truth an alien

Blu-ray Review: Ultraman Orb (2016) and Ultraman Geed (2017)

Mill Creek Entertainment have gone done and released a dynamic duo of newer Ultra series… Ultraman Orb (2016) and Ultraman GEED (2017) respectively, and I marathoned the ever-loving shit out of them! So hunker down and read my wicked words about ’em! Created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ultra-franchise, ol’ Ultraman Orb follows the adventures of a new Ultraman (Orb ‘natch) who arrives on the scene all fired up to kick some monster ass, and boy will he ever get the chance as a cadre of killer kaiju known as King Demon Beasts have been set free after cooling their jets for centuries thanks to the Ultra Warriors locking their asses away and throwing away the key. Now Orb has a trick or two up his sleeve, mainly the fact he can call upon and utilize the powers of past Ultra Warriors and utilize them to inflict all manner of grave bodily harm to each and every monster

Macon Blair Remaking ‘The Toxic Avenger’

Legendary has been kicking around the idea to reboot The Toxic Avenger for a long time, now it seems they are finally setting the wheels in motion, announcing today that the film’s writer-director will be Macon Blair, whose film I Don’t Feel At Home In This World is now streaming on Netflix. Troma’s 1984 classic, from Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman, tells the story of Melvin Ferd, a nerd working as a janitor in a New Jersey gym. Constantly picked on and bullied, Melvin is one day chased out of a second-story window landing in a drum of toxic waste which turns him into a hero with super-strength and a face only a mother could love. The Toxic Avenger then sets out to fight crime. Hopefully, more details will surface soon. If by some way you haven’t seen this gem, go check it out, it’s currently streaming on both Amazon Prime and Tubi.

Contortionist Who Went Viral To Become Rag Doll In ‘The Flash’

Troy James terrified audiences with his contortion routine on “Showtime at the Apollo” that went viral. James has the ability to contort his body into unnatural positions, but there’s more, he is able to run and jump while in the “crabwalk” stance making fans of horror wanting him to be in movies. Well, Troy has done work for the series “The Strain”, “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” and even appeared in a Japanese commercial for business suits that stretch for comfort. Now Troy will be entering the world of comic book villainy as Rag Doll, a contortionist villain in the comic book series “The Flash”. Rag Doll is a contortionist criminal who disguises himself as toys (more notably literal ragdolls). His appearance over the years including his abilities have changed (as the role of Rag Doll was passed down from Father to son), he now looks like a harlequin type doll with long red dreadlock looking hair and not only can

Movie Review: Rendel Dark Vengeance is Hyper-Violent Fun!

After a rather intense opening narration where our hero, Rendel, basically lays it on the line that he is going to tear every criminal he meets a brand new asshole, we learn about the VALA corporation and their shady vaccine business before cutting to some gangsta shit (also involving VALA) getting broken up (along with a score of criminal faces) by our viciously violent pal Big R (with some help from his ethereal blonde muse). Time passes, VALA gets super pissed that Rendel keeps harshing their gig, and action is taken…namely the assembly of a team of crazy hitmen gathered to take our hero down. Outrageous levels of violence ensue. Rendel is a nice alternative to the high adventure cape and spandex yarns currently dominating pop culture. While Rendel does wear a superhero costume of sorts, he is silent, violent (there’s that word again…notice a theme?), and completely driven to destroy the VALA corporation (with very good reason, but i’m
