Comic Book Review: Serious Creatures Issue 1

Massachusetts based writer/artist Tony McMillen’s (Lumen) latest comic book offering Serious Creatures is a book that should be easily embraced by those that visit this site. Don’t believe me? Well, you’re an asshole… but an asshole that should read on to learn just why I’m so hyped on this beastly book! Serious Creatures concerns the adventures of teen Bobby Feckle, a young kid in the early 70’s with aspirations of being a special effects artist. A chance encounter during the filming of the biggest blockbuster of the mid-’70s (called Fin here, but you cats will dig what the book is laying down) sets Bobby on the first baby-steps of making his dreams a reality while at the same time his home-life begins to degrade. I’m willing to bet demons to doughnuts that many of you cats n’ creeps are a lot like Bobby; you live, eat, and breath movie monsters morning, noon, and night… and I’d wager a good many

Robert Englund Is Returning As Freddy Krueger In New Documentary

Robert Englund is sliding on his glove and sitting down in the makeup chair one last time as Freddy Krueger in the documentary ‘Nightmares in the Makeup Chair’. Back in 2014, Englund brought Freddy out of retirement and appeared in full wardrobe and makeup to treat fans to a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Chicago’s Flashback Weekend. Directed by Mike Kerz, the upcoming documentary goes behind the scenes at Flashback Weekend. We will see Englund in the makeup chair, sharing stories while FX master Robert Kurtzman transforms Englund into our favorite dream-stalking killer. It will “take fans on an exciting, fun, and emotional journey through Englund’s years as Freddy Krueger with stories and anecdotes, all while paying tribute to the legacy of Wes Craven.” I was inspired by the vintage photos of the legendary artist Jack Pierce applying the Frankenstein makeup to Boris Karloff. Road to Death House Part 2

I’ve attended a lot of Hollywood meetings. Creative. Business. Social. In every one of these, ideas and projects get thrown around. People get excited. Plans are made. I usually wait until the very end to ask the most important question. If it is not mentioned up front, you kind of have your answer, but it’s a game in the end to see if you’re as smart as you think you are. That question is: Is the financing in place? You get either leaden silence as if you committed some grave social faux pas, or you get the “well, we are talking to so and so…” Translated: there is no money. Don’t believe the Hollywood fables of making a film for $15,000 and making $400 million. With all legends there is a grain of truth, but like an oyster makes a pearl, it’s slathered with layers of mucus and shit. No, your $7000 movie is not going to make a million.
