Restored Spanish Horror ‘Arrebato’ Coming To Blu-ray & DVD For The First Time

Altered Innocence presents the rand-new 4K restoration of Iván Zulueta’s 1979 Spanish feature Arrebato, a dimension-shattering blend of heroin, sex, and Super-8 is the final word on cinemania. This towering feat of counterculture was the final film from the Spanish cult filmmaker and movie poster designer Zulueta (One, Two, Three, English, Hide and Seek). In this horror movie director, José is adrift in a sea of doubt and drugs. As his belated second feature nears completion, his reclusive bubble is popped by two events: a sudden reappearance from an ex-girlfriend and a package from past acquaintance Pedro: a reel of Super-8 film, an audiotape, and a door key. From there, the boundaries of time, space, and sexuality are erased as José is once more sucked into Pedro’s vampiric orbit. Together, they attempt the ultimate hallucinogenic catharsis through a Moebius strip of filming and being filmed. Blu-ray Review: No One Heard The Scream (1973)

Jet-setting, gold diggin’ beauty Elisa (Carmen Sevilla delivering the sexy in spades) peeps her neighbor Miguel (Vincente Parra), chucking his dead wife, Nuria (María Asquerino) down an elevator shaft… but it’s a double-peep back-fire as Miguel sees her seeing him and forces her to help him thus making her an accomplice and more likely to keep her flappin’ yapper closed, ya see? As you may not expect, Elisa digs on this action and goes balls deep in helping Miguel keep that lil’ indiscretion on the down low… until she doesn’t and tries to kill him… and then things go completely sideways. Spanish giallo (sort of) ensues! Coming hot on the heels of the previous year’s Cannibal Man (which I set my eerie eyeballs right here), but predating perhaps his most well-known work; the juvenile delinquent pictures he dove head first into in the early ‘80s (and which I covered right here), Eloy de la Iglesia’s No One Heard the Scream

Blu-ray Review: Eloy De La Iglesia’s Quinqui Collection (Navajeros, El Pico & El Pico 2)

Eloy de la Iglesia… now there is a mother fucker that wasn’t afraid to bring the seedy side of life to the silver screen (check out my review of his classic home invasion shocker Cannibal Man right here to bear witness to this) and Quinqui; a three-movie collection of his work, will only drive that point further home… not unlike a hypodermic needle straight to the ol’ hairy beanbag! Comprised of a trio of juvenile delinquent crime thrillers, Navajeros, El Pico & El Pico 2 to put a name to ‘em, these flicks are gritty, street-level, feel bad flicks through and through! Navajeros (1980) concerns José Manuel Gomez Perales or “El Jaro” ( José Luis Manzano) as he’s known among friends; a fifteen year-old criminal with a record a mile and a fuckin’ half long. Thankfully he spends most of his free time practicing the wholesome art of stealing purses with his rough n’ tumble pals. At night, El Jaro

Watch The Trailer For The Spanish Thriller ‘La Dosis’ – Out This June

This summer, Samuel Goldwyn Films will release the Spanish thriller La Dosis, which made its world premiere and the Rotterdam Film Festival last year before being shown at BFI Flare and the Fantasia Film Festival. In the film, “Marcos is an experienced nurse who works the night shift of a private clinic. He is successful and professional, though it is soon revealed that he uses his position to help suffering patients find early peace. A new nurse in the clinic, Gabriel, shakes the sector: he is young, intelligent, beautiful, and seduces everyone. He soon deciphers Marcos’ secret and the clinic becomes a battle of wits and seduction. Marcos retracts until he discovers that Gabriel also dabbles in euthanasia, though for different reasons. This revelation forces him to confront Gabriel and Marcos knows that only by exposing his own true identity will he be able to stop him.” Directed by Martin Krant and starring Carlos Portaluppi, Ignacio Rogers, and Lorena Vega,

Blu-ray Review: Jess Franco’s Shining Sex (1977)

Shining Sex begins the only way it could; with a whistling Lina Romay dabbin’ at a photo of a dude with his schlong out with an eye shadow brush. Well, turns out Romay… or rather her character Cynthia is an exotic dancer that performs some sort of grease and gold plastered interpretive dance; the eponymous Shining Sex… a heady combo of pubic area razor burn, baffling close-ups, and shag carpeting that is guaranteed to have the audience scratching their heads as well as their crotches. After that showstopper, Cynthia is whisked away to the plush roof-top penthouse of Alpha (Evelyne Scott), where she immediately begins having sex with the lady of the manor… oh, and in a story ripped from today’s headlines; Alpha is an alien from another dimension with telepathic abilities, as one does. So what is Alpha up to? Mostly sitting around with her naked Lou Reed lookin’ man-servant, Andros (Raymond Hardy)… oh, and weaponizing our heroine’s vagina

Movie Review: Chain of Death (2019)

Mike (John Patrick Amedori) heads home, his wife Rebecca (Kim Johnston Ulrich) in tow, at the behest of his mother Emma (Adrienne Barbeau). The reason? Mike’s Dad Michael (Ray Wise) is dying from some dread disease and she needs the ‘ol helpin’ hand. Long story short, Mike ends up requiring the services of an assisted suicide facility, which would be difficult in and of itself for emotional reasons alone…but this particular business is a titch different, as instead of the usual monetary fees, the person asking for their services must in turn murder someone else. How far will Mike go, and will he be able to keep his own hide intact before all is said and done? Let’s kick out the jams with the positives of Chain of Death. Working from a screenplay by Andres Rosende, Director David Martín Porras (who also co-created the film’s story) presents a pretty suspenseful, at times gloriously unbelievable, narrative that while it stumbles here

Movie Review: Night of the Virgin (2016)

Uber-nerd Nico (Javier Bódalo…in an impressively cartoonish performance) is dead set on losing his virginity on New Year’s Eve…and it seems like that is precisely what will happen when he encounters Medea (Miriam Martín) a Super Coug on the prowl who invites him home to her ultra filthy, bug infested apartment (but hey, any port in a storm, amirite?). Once there he engages in awkward dancing, gets a lesson in the history of the Nepalese Goddess Naoshi, and finds a cup of period blood in the bathroom…which he tastes (all as one does). Before long, Madea’s recently estranged boyfriend, Spider (Víctor Amilibia) arrives at her door demanding entrance after being whipped into a frenzy by some fake fuckery…and there he remains as blood mixes with semen (don’t ask…but there is underwear involved) and we discover that a child must be born to Naoshi via Madea or all life will end…but that may be a bit complicated as she is starting

‘My Name Is Death’, The Perfect Dark Humor Webtoon

Again on Line Webtoon, I’ve discovered a little gem, a comic by Spanish artist Rumbo (Josué Rumbo) titled My name is Death. The comic follows the grim reaper himself and the shenanigans that arise as he works. Death himself looks a bit different from what we think of him, he’s a little guy with a wicked sense of humor that resembles Deadpool (who makes an appearance in one of the comics.) The comics are a perfect mix of silliness, pop culture references, and at times social commentary. When the series first started the drawings looked different but as the series progresses the drawings become cleaner (thanks to donations from readers) Overall, My name is Death is a funny little comic strip that updates weekly if you like dark humor, sarcasm, and even a little cuteness; this comic is for you! You can read it HERE, you can also check out My name is Death on Facebook and Twitter and you
