From The Filmmaker Behind ‘You’re Next’ Comes ‘Seance,’ Landing Exclusively On Shudder

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller, and the supernatural, announced today that Seance will be available exclusively to stream on the platform this September. Known for writing some of the most revered horror films over the past decade, Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest) wrote the screenplay and will make his feature directorial debut with Seance. In the movie, Camille Meadows is the new girl at the prestigious Edelvine Academy for Girls. Soon after her arrival, six girls invite her to join them in a late-night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. But before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened. Seance stars Suki Waterhouse (Assassination Nation, The Divergent Series: Insurgent), Madisen Beaty (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ella-Rae Smith (“Into the Badlands,” Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), Inanna Sarkis

Movie Review: Seance

Simon Barrett takes us to haunted boarding school in his new horror film Seance. As usual with horror movies, there are only three ways it can go, bad, meh, and awesome. Luckily, I can now tell you that Seance is the latter of the three. First off, Seance doesn’t waste any time getting right into the spooky stuff, with a group of girls staring into the bathroom mirror, calling on the legendary school ghost, after learning it’s a prank all hell breaks loose and one girl is dead. When the new girl shows up, played by Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Assassination Nation), everything begins to unravel as the girls continue turning up dead. The question is, is it or ghost killing off the girls or is it something/someone more alive? Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil it for you. I wouldn’t do that to you. Seance is a movie you’re actually going to want to watch for yourself.

Suki Waterhouse Enrolls In A Haunted Boarding School In ‘Seance’

Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Assassination Nation) is set to star as the protagonist in Simon Barrett‘s horror directorial debut, Seance, EW reports. “Seance is a murder mystery set at a girls boarding school where a young woman recently died,” says Simon Barrett. “Our hero moves into her dorm room, which is believed to be haunted, and sets about trying to find out what happened.” “She was the first person who signed on,” Barrett states. “I was looking at Suki originally to play Alice — the bully, the leader of the girls at the school. I thought of Camille as an underdog. Suki is a model, she has such a striking look, I was not certain how that would work. Then I sat down and talked with her for like three hours, and she had an interesting take on Camille and totally got the jokes in the film. She honestly was the only person who thought the script was funny.

Movie Review: Ouija Seance: The Final Game (2018)

Sarah’s livin’ high off the spaghett in the land of it’s birth…namely good ol’ Italy. Things are all wine n’ roses until our comely heroine learns she has inherited a rural villa…you know, the kind that any sane person would say “This shit is haunted, yo”…at least they should if they’ve ever laid putrid peepers on a fright flick that is. Anyway, Sarah and her friends move in, find a ouija board, then immediately put it back where they found it, and leave. Yeah right, these dipshits use that board and unleash unholy hell…as is always the way. Let’s chit chat about what works in Ouija Seance: The Final Game. Firstly, the film looks good; the Italian locales offer a unique touch, and the supernatural set dressing (the distinctive look of the titular board, ancient texts, et.al.) is suitably creepy. Additionally, the film skillfully presents the supernatural goings-on with plenty of arcane atmospherics…it’s just that the proceedings seem awfully familiar,

Movie Review: The Spiritualist Won’t Conjure Up Much Spirited Fun.

Poor Laura; her nights are filled with a real plastic hassle of screaming, unending terror…night terrors to be precise (this probably not helped by the fact she lives in a creepy-as-balls mansion). Any ol’ way, L-Dawg is also dealing with the recent death of her mother who was nuttier than a goddamned fruit cake. Naturally, there are only two answers to what’s plaguing our heroine: her mother is haunting her like a MF’er, or Laura too has a bad case of beastly bats in her belfry. Regardless, a medium is called, a seance is performed, and Laura and her friends experience a violence laden experience. No refunds. Let’s start with what works with The Spiritualist, shall we? Well, it’s well acted, with Caroline Burns Cooke as the titular spiritualist being a real standout (as is the entire seance sequence). I also enjoyed the unconventional approach to parts of the narrative (the film almost seems like two films in one…and more
