Sequel To ‘Mandao Of The Dead’, ‘Mandao Returns’ Is Streaming Now On Prime

Mandao Returns, the sequel to writer-director Scott Dunn‘s 2018 sci-fi horror comedy Mandao of the Dead, has now landed on Amazon Prime. “Jay Mandao is not your average hero. He’s an astral projecting time traveler who spends his days hanging with his adult nephew Jackson, crashing on his scheming cousin Andy’s couch, and riding with his cabbie friend Fer. In the days leading up to Christmas, Jay tries to make contact with his deceased father Raymond but ends up contacting the ghost of B-movie star, Aura Garcia. Aura enlists the gang to astral project back in time to prevent her death. Jay quickly finds out that the more he messes with time, the more he falls down a rabbit hole of cults, conspiracies, and death. This Christmas is gonna kick astral!” Mandao Returns is headlined by Jenny Lorenzo (“Victor and Valentino”, “Gentefied”), Jim O’Doherty (“Third Rock from the Sun”, “Grounded for Life”), Sean Liang (“American Horror Story: 1984”), Scott Dunn,

Horror Comedy ‘Mandao Of The Dead’ Now Streaming On Amazon

The second feature from filmmaker Scott Dunn and producer Gina Gomez, Mandao of the Dead (review) combines temporal hijinks with chills from beyond the grave in a film Horror Fuel calls “a charming winner of a flick.” In the film, unambitious Jay Mandao lives frugally off his late father’s cereal royalties. He wants nothing more than to live in solitude but is duped into taking in his adult nephew-in-law, Jackson. As Halloween approaches, Jay begins having odd dreams and comes to find that he has the ability of astral projection. Jay and Jackson are approached by a ghost who has a small window of opportunity to reverse his death at the hands of Jackson’s murderous ex-girlfriend. Scott Dunn, Alexandra Chen, Samara Kohne, Gina Gomez, Marisa Hood, and David Gallegos star, Mandao of the Dead is now exclusively streaming on Amazon and will arrive on iTunes in 2019.

Movie Review: Mandao of the Dead

Major league weird cat and heir to an award losing breakfast cereal “empire” Jay Mandao (Scott Dunn…who also wrote and directed the film) lives with his equally eccentric adult nephew Jackson (Sean McBride)…who sleeps in a tent within the apartment…yeah…Anyway, the night before Halloween, Jay has an out of body experience via astral projection which eventually leads our heroes to begin astral projecting slightly backwards through time to help a ghost avoid their murder. Absolute insanity ensues. Mandao of the Dead is one hell of a bizarre ride boils n’ ghouls. Everything from our off-kilter heroes…played with likable charm, even when Jay is being a tad on the gruff side and Jackson is being…Jackson, to the strange astral projection, time travel, and murder angles, and left-of-center humor all coalesce into a heady stew of engaging storytelling, solid world building, and just straight up fun. On the downside, the pacing of this film is equally as odd as the story itself.
