Blu-ray Review: The Brotherhood of Satan (1971)

With a film involving Satan that begins with child characters, you just know you’re going to be getting one of them sing-song, “la la la” type of main theme, and boy howdy The Brotherhood of Satan does not disappoint there… there’s also footage of a car being crushed by a tank while unholy screams ring out, so there’s that bit that is also not disappointing. Following that, Ben (Charles Bateman), his girlfriend Nicky (Ahna Capri), and Ben’s young daughter K.T. (future Brady Bunch Hour alum Geri Reischl) resume their cross country vacay after being caught in one of those realistic movie downpours where the rain goes in multiple directions at once… but that once again grinds to a halt when they discover the aftermath of a grizzly car “accident” and are forced to seek the assistance of the local sheriff (L.Q. Middle School Girls Plotted Bloody Massacre

Two Floridian girls were arrested by authorities at their middle school in central Florida. The girls’ ages 12 and 11 are self-proclaimed Satanists who planned to murder their classmates in order to “sin” enough to go to hell. The girls planned on killing and dismembering 15-25 students, drink their blood and possibly eat their flesh. The girls planned to hide in one of the restrooms of the school to ambush younger classmates they believe they could overpower. A tip to faculty resulted in the police arriving and finding the girls in the restroom. Upon searching the duo, police recovered three knives, a pair of scissors, and a pizza cutter. Authorities found text messages between the youths discussing their plans and even a handwritten note saying “go to kill in bathroom”. Upon questioning, the girls (according to police) answered questions “matter of factly”. The overall goal of the girls was to kill as many students as possible to earn enough sins

Movie Review: The Devil’s Well is Well Worth Dipping Into!

The Devil’s Well concerns the misadventures of a husband and wife paranormal investigation team that arrive in a small town to investigate a hotspot called The Devil’s Well (‘natch). Well the wife of the duo, Karla, goes missing, and the chief suspect is of course her husband Bryan is suspecto numero uno (I’m a cunning linguist my fiends). Presented in documentary format (with a nice variety of interviews, camera footage, news reports etc.), we get to learn all the facts of the case including that the victim’s family was morally opposed to Karla’s work with the supernatural. Soon we learn that the well, located in a basement of all places, is a rumored portal to hell with a long and sordid past, and our heroes begin an investigation which leads to Karla’s disappearance. Flash forward a year, and a new party, including Bryan, return to the arcane abode to attempt to find ol’ Karla…and of course they find so much

Film Review: “At The Devils Door (2014)”

“When ambitious young real estate agent Leigh is asked to sell a house with a checkered past, she crosses paths with a disturbed girl whom she believes is the runaway daughter of the couple selling the property. When Leigh tries to intervene and help her, she becomes entangled with a supernatural force that soon pulls Leigh’s artist sister Vera into its own web – and has sinister plans for both of them.” _______________________________________ “At The Devil’s Door” is packed with young familiar faces from “Glee’s” Naya Rivera, to MTV’s “Awkard’s” Ashley Rickards, to “Falling Skies” star Catalina Sandino Moreno. The three girls play off of each other well creating the perfect formula for a modern day horror thriller. I did enjoy this film, although what started off as an extremely promising demonic horror flick, started to loose its sense of direction through the middle of the film.
