Blu-ray Review: The Woman (2011)

Chris Cleek (Sean Bridgers) has the goddamned life what with being a successful lawyer and family man and all… but one bad decision could bring all that to a full fuckin’ stop believe you me! What sort of decision would that be I can just hear you lot ask with baited breath? Well, let me tell you; taking home a near-feral woman (Pollyanna McIntosh) that you discovered on a hunting trip and imprisoning her in your cellar in an attempt to make her civilized would definitely fit the bill… and that’s exactly what Chris does. To his credit, he tells his family of his intentions… much to the chagrin of his wife Belle (Angela Bettis)… but his methods to break her will are a tad (read: absolutely fuckin’ off-the-charts) misogynistic and oh-so-very wrong as-all-fuck. As you can imagine “the woman” doesn’t cotton to this for the long term and soon she begins to fight back against her forced “training”… and

Blu-ray Review: Darlin’ (2019)

Darlin’ features the various and sundry adventures of the eponymous title character (played by Lauryn Canny); a feral child who is dropped off at a hospital located at the edge of a snow covered forest by her equally feral mother; The Woman (played by the film’s director and writer, Pollyanna McIntosh… who we interviewed here, as a character featured in Lucky McKee’s movie of the same name… yup, this flick is a sequel to that very film, which in turn is based on the writing of Jack Ketchum). Darlin’ proves to be one hell of a handful, and is kept sedated until the staff can figure out her fate… a fate that is ultimately decided by the Catholic church (who funds the hospital) that sends her packing to ye olde Catholic orphanage. This of course complicates things when The Woman comes lookin’ for her offspring at the hospital, bearing her fav delicacy; human flesh. The Woman intends to find her

Pollyanna McIntosh’s ‘Darlin’ Arrives On Blu-ray This September

Continuing the twistedly vicious adventure of Lucky McKee’s cult hit The Woman, Darlin’ sees Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead) emerge as a stand-out star both in front of and behind the camera in a stunning writing-directing debut. Found at a Catholic hospital filthy and ferocious, feral teenager Darlin’ (Lauryn Canny, Limbo) is whisked off to a care home run by The Bishop (Bryan Batt, Mad Men) and his obedient nuns where she is to be tamed into a “good girl.” However, Darlin’ holds a secret darker than the “sins” she is threatened with, and she is not traveling alone. The Woman (McIntosh), equally fierce and feral, who raised her is ever-present and is determined to come for her no matter who tries to stand in her way. During our interview with McIntosh, she went in-depth about her role as the Woman, what the films mean, and how excited she is to share her film with the world. I’m so grateful

Movie Review: Darlin’

“Walking Dead” star Pollyanna McIntosh makes her directorial debut with Darlin’, the sequel to Lucky McKee’s 2011 horror The Woman, which McIntosh also starred in. Before we delve into my review of Darlin’ let me give you a quick rundown of The Woman. In the film, a successful misogynistic country lawyer captures a feral woman in an attempt to “civilize” the member of a violent, cannibalistic clan roaming the coast by breaking her will. But somethings just can’t be broken. Darlin’ picks up years later after the woman has raised the child she took. Darlin’, now a young woman wanders into a hospital. Unable to speak and wild, she meets a nurse (Cooper Andrews) who is able to somewhat communicate through kindness. She is seen as a curiosity and sent to a girls home run by the church where she becomes the project of a nun and Bishop who hope to use her as a way to save the facility
