Blu-ray Review: Bones (2001)

Jimmy Bones(Snoop Dogg) was one bad-ass mother fucker in the ’70s; a true gangster’s gangster that ultimately was betrayed by a friend and met his demise in a deal gone south. Flash forward to the ‘mazing future year 2001, and Bones’ ol’ crib is purchased by a group of young entrepreneurs who hope to turn it into a nightclub. This causes the spirit of Bones to rise, and he immediately sets his sights on getting powerful enough to enact his supernatural revenge plot on those that did his ass oh-so wrong back in the disco days… and woe be to any mother fucker that gets in his way! I’m not here to mince words with you cats n’ creeps, so let me just say that Bones is a huge amount of frightful fun! It’s deft blend of blaxploitation and horror movie tropes is an entertaining winner, and while some of the effects are quite shit (I’m looking at you cheap-ass

Blu-ray Review: Ghosts of Mars (2001)

Lieutenant Melanie Ballard (Natasha Henstridge) and a cadre of Mars cops are called out to a remote mining colony to pick up a prisoner, one Desolation Williams (Ice Cube), and transport him back to civilization…and more thorough incarceration. Once there they discover that nothing is left of the colony but mutilated corpses. Our heroes all have their theories as to what happened, but the simplest explanation eludes them…centuries old space lizard ghosts have possessed the miners and turned them into some sort of primal street gang lead by Big Daddy Mars (Richard Cetrone)…you know, like any other given Tuesday. Of course this makes survival a bit dicey for our heroes, but thankfully Desolation’s hard-ass pals show up to form an uneasy alliance making Operation: Save Ass a smidge more doable. I’m just going to come out and say it; Ghosts of Mars takes waaaay more shit from horror hounds than it deserves. While admittedly not one of John Carpenter’s best

Movie Review: The Twilight People is an Obscure Creature Feature you Need to See!

A diver named Matt (played by John Ashley and his sideburns) is brought aboard a ship and kidnapped by it’s crew, led by the Aryan Steinman (played by Jan Merlin and his horribly dyed hair), to a remote island where a Doctor (Charles Macaulay, who you cats would know as Dracula from William Crain’s classic Blacula) is performing bizarre experiments to turn beasts into men (now before you scream “This is a rip-off of The Island of Dr. Moreau!”, let me tell you that this film is blazingly original as the doctor here is named “Gordon”). Anyway, ol’ Dr. G tells Matty that he personally selected him to become a super-being, which leaves our hero unimpressed, so he decides to escape from this island hell. Lucky for him, the Doctor’s gorgeous daughter Neva (Pat Woodell) decides to help him along with the off-the-wall manimals locked in the doc’s dungeon basement…and with that back-up what could possibly go wrong? As derivative

HorrorHound Weekend: A Celebration of What We Love to Fear

. Since July 2007, fans have attended HorrorHound Weekend to have the chance to mingle with monsters, monster makers, victims, and final girls. Right now HorrorHound Weekend’s Indianapolis convention is just under four weeks away. “Why should I go?”, you ask. Well, because David Arquette,Michael Rooker, Tony Todd, and Pam Grier will be appearing there. Or maybe because there will also be Fright Night AND Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers cast reunions, as well as many other actors and actresses from some of your favorite classic horror films. Have I whet your appetite, or at the very least do I hour attention? If not, there is much more. There is also MaskFest, featuring the likes of Jordu Schell, Ed and Marsha Edmunds, Robert Kurtzman, and many other talented effects artists and mask makers. There will also be a bevy of dealers and artists with some truly killer merchandise. Wait, I almost forgot to mention the Chump Change Variety Show,
