Blu-ray Review: A Slaughter in Plague Town (2008)

A bickering family of American tourists decide to stop off in a small Irish village located in a picturesque, verdant landscape. Seems prosaic enough, but as horror movies oft times go; this village has a deep, dark (in this case mutant) based secret that will put that vacay in a serious dovetail right quick! As you may surmise from that sinister synopsis, Plague Town (or A Slaughter in Plague Town) is a fright flick positively dripping with atmosphere. This is nowhere as evident in the locales utilized to bring this terror tale to life; all wicked woods and dark, almost monotone environs. It’s drab, it’s dreary, and it looks exactly like the place you’d run into some good ol’ folk horror madness! Adding to the positives are the lean n’ mean flow of the film delivered by co-writer (along with John Cregan)/director David Gregory keeps things disturbing and moving like a spectral locomotive from hell, so this one never becomes

Movie Review: Dead House (2014)

Three ultra-degenerates wander the affluent suburbs looking for families to abuse in their own trademarked way, namely; they film the matriarch and patriarch gettin’ it on in front of the rest of the family (how rude!) then they off everyone and steal whatever shit appeals to their greedy lil’ hearts. As is the way, nothing lasts forever…even cold November Rain…and rapey crime sprees because our terror trio picks on the wrong family when they come a knockin’ on the door of the Pontecorvo’s. You see this family harbors a secret zombie filled lab in their home (as you do), and that trio of beastly boobs of course unleash that hell resulting in the expected bloodbath…but just who will survive the onslaught? I’m going to cut right to the chase…Dead House (a.k.a. Beautiful People) takes waaaay too long to get to the arcane action! It’s nearly forty five minutes (out of an hour and thirteen minute run time…with credits) before the

Mutation by Nerys Wheatley

Mutation by Nerys Wheatley is the first book in the Twenty-Five Percent series which takes a completely different take on what we think of as a zombie apocalypse narrative. Zombies aren’t just brain eating death machines, there are other ways that the virus can influence their physiology and behavior. Those who survive infection by zombies are referred to as being a “White-Eye” based on their discolored eyes and are marked for life as second class citizens despite their improved abilities. I was sent a copy of the book to check out, and my findings are below. Note: This is a shorter review than my usual because I am running behind with book reviews on account of the Splatterpunk Anthology I’m working on putting together. I’m still shooting for reading and reviewing a book per week, but some weeks I might be off a bit… I apologize in advance for the slightly shorter reviews, but I’ll try to be just as
