Movie Review: Dead Don’t Die in Dallas (2019)

Great news; scientists have cured and prevented AIDS with a pill… bad news, you get zombie as fuck off that shit! So down Texas way, in the town of Eliasville; Beth Anne (Willam Belli) and Phil (Angel Martinez) two hold outs in the pill popping department have holed up in an abandoned building… too bad they aren’t alone, as homophobic preacher Samuel (Richard D. Curtin) and his family (including his closeted gay son) have taken up residence there as well. Soon our heroes must team-up with those that would destroy them (along with some vigilantes for good measure) if they are to survive the gut-munchin’ madness that threatens everyone; gay, straight, or other’s continued status as “living”. In all honesty, Dead Don’t Die in Dallas surprised the ever-lovin’ shit outta yours cruelly! Let’s start with some of the ol’ ghoulish goodness… namely the F/X work. While definitely more on the comedy horror tip, this flick nevertheless delivers quality practical effects

Blu-ray Review: Ultra Seven (1967 – 1968)

Continuing on with their presentation of the original Ultraman television episodes (the first two volumes of which I reviewed here), Mill Creek Entertainment brings us 1967’s Ultra Seven (which coincidentally is the Ultra series I’ve seen the most of thanks to TNT broadcasting dubbed episodes of the series in the mid-’90s). The long and the short of UltraSeven goes as follows: like a hot second from now, Earth finds itself balls deep in alien monsters… monsters that are hell bent on rippin’ our home turf a brand-new asshole. Not one to just sit on their collective asses, the Terrestrial Defense Force establishes the Ultra Garrison, a gaggle of folks that use the ultimate in technology to mix things up with those space bastards right quick! Now that’s all well and good, but the real ace-in-the-hole of the Garrison is the addition of Dan Moroboshi, a mystery man that isn’t really a “man” at all, but is in truth an alien

Blu-ray Review: Ultraman Orb (2016) and Ultraman Geed (2017)

Mill Creek Entertainment have gone done and released a dynamic duo of newer Ultra series… Ultraman Orb (2016) and Ultraman GEED (2017) respectively, and I marathoned the ever-loving shit out of them! So hunker down and read my wicked words about ’em! Created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ultra-franchise, ol’ Ultraman Orb follows the adventures of a new Ultraman (Orb ‘natch) who arrives on the scene all fired up to kick some monster ass, and boy will he ever get the chance as a cadre of killer kaiju known as King Demon Beasts have been set free after cooling their jets for centuries thanks to the Ultra Warriors locking their asses away and throwing away the key. Now Orb has a trick or two up his sleeve, mainly the fact he can call upon and utilize the powers of past Ultra Warriors and utilize them to inflict all manner of grave bodily harm to each and every monster

Blu-ray Review: Ultra Q (1965)/Ultraman (1966)

As a kid, I was absolutely obsessed with Japanese creature features (still am, actually!) but there was only so much of that material available in my small mountain hometown. Occasionally my friends and I would trek to the nearest “big” city where there was a store that had all manner of import toys and magazines, and here is where my mania became even more intense as I wanted so badly to see some of the Far East flicks and shows mentioned in those petulant pages… and nowhere seemed to be kaiju ground zero more than the Ultra shows produced by Tsuburaya Productions, headed by man-in-suit wizard Eiji Tsuburaya! Anyway fast forward to like last week sometime, and those sexy devils at Mill Creek Entertainment have sent yours cruelly Blu-ray sets of the first two series set in the Ultra universe; 1965’s Ultra Q and 1966’s Ultraman! Let’s get balls deep in the Q to kick things off, shall we? Now

Blu-ray Review: Guns (1990) and Do or Die (1991)

I have a lil’ something different for you cats n’ creeps today; a look at two Blu-rays put out by Mill Creek Entertainment featuring some pure exploitation gold! Guns (1990): Juan Degas, the infamous Jack of Diamonds (C.H.I.P.S.’ Erik Estrada in a rare villainous role) is back in action, and he has a plan to run guns down Molokai way. Thankfully L.E.T.H.A.L. Agents Donna (Dona Speir, reprising her role from other flicks in the Malibu Bay series) and Nicole (Roberta Vasquez), are on the case and ready to get naked and fire missiles at shit nearly non-stop, so good luck to ya Juan. I know the two burning questions plaguing your fevered brain: Is there a federal agent in this that’s also a magician/assassin (played by legendary television performer Chuck McCann who steals the entire picture in my opinion), and does Danny Trejo (Machete) play a Chinese dude? The answer is “yes” to both, naturally. Also in the plus column

Blu-ray Review: Ghosts of Mars (2001)

Lieutenant Melanie Ballard (Natasha Henstridge) and a cadre of Mars cops are called out to a remote mining colony to pick up a prisoner, one Desolation Williams (Ice Cube), and transport him back to civilization…and more thorough incarceration. Once there they discover that nothing is left of the colony but mutilated corpses. Our heroes all have their theories as to what happened, but the simplest explanation eludes them…centuries old space lizard ghosts have possessed the miners and turned them into some sort of primal street gang lead by Big Daddy Mars (Richard Cetrone)…you know, like any other given Tuesday. Of course this makes survival a bit dicey for our heroes, but thankfully Desolation’s hard-ass pals show up to form an uneasy alliance making Operation: Save Ass a smidge more doable. I’m just going to come out and say it; Ghosts of Mars takes waaaay more shit from horror hounds than it deserves. While admittedly not one of John Carpenter’s best

Blu-ray Review: Sheena (1984)

After her parents are killed in a cave-in in deepest Africa, young Janet is taken in by the Zambouli tribe where she is viewed as a goddess and given the new handle; Sheena, Queen of the Jungle! Sheena (Tanya Roberts) matures among the tribe in their land of Tigora where she learns the ways of the animals and develops a telepathic bond with them…as one does. Soon our buxom heroine finds herself up to her bleached blonde hairdo in an assassination plot which she must help solve with the assistance of reporter Vic Casey (Ted Wass), and his cameraman Fletch Agronsky (Donovan Scott)…all while finding the time to ride a zebra bareback and ass around with some chimps and an elephant. Priorities and all that… Look boils n’ ghouls; this is Tarzan with tits and it features all of the lunacy that concept suggests! You get a stunning beauty in Roberts, who is athletic, and fun to watch…even if she

Blu-ray Review: Neighbors (1981)

At the end of a cul de sac sits two homes; one a picture of middle class normalcy the other a dilapidated, empty Victorian affair that Gomez Addams would dig. Well, that diabolical dwelling doesn’t stay empty for long as Vic and Ramona (Dan Aykroyd and Cathy Moriarty respectively) move in and immediately begin intruding on the lives of their neighbors the hen-pecked, milquetoast Earl and put-upon Enid Keese (John Belushi and Kathryn Walker)…with Ramona turning on the seduction and Vic fleecing Earl. Of course shit gets waaaay out of hand (and right quick too)…and soon blackmail, questionable Italian dinners, Nazi connotations, and outrageous rivalries are the order of the day…and that’s not even to mention the swamp full of chemical waste and quicksand, or the ultra-strange (and close) electrical tower that seems to electrocute animals as it sees fit. Neighbors is one hell of an underrated surreal gem…seriously, why this flick mentioned in the same breath as The Burbs

Blu-ray Review: Happy Birthday to Me (1981)

Ginny Wainwright (Melissa Sue Anderson) has got it all; she’s a looker, popular as balls, and is a member of the “Top Ten”; an elite group of the most popular and privileged students (a.k.a. obnoxious douche nozzles…mostly anyway). Because this film is older than dirt (from 1981 to be precise, when the legal drinking age was 18…though from the looks of this cast 18 was far in the rear view mirror), these “high school kids” gather at a local bar every night for drinks. As fate, and slasher movie tropes would have it, one night their pal Bernadette (Lesleh Donaldson) fails to show…mainly because a black gloved murderer slashed her throat. As our gang goes about the normal pursuits one does when worried sick about a missing friend; namely jumping drawbridges, racing dirt bikes, having experimental procedures to fix your traumatized brain after a car accident (on that damn bridge again), and stealing underwear (I know that at least one

Blu-ray Review: Nightwing (1979) and Shadow of the Hawk (1976) Double Feature

Mill Creek Entertainment sent over a double feature Blu containing the fright flicks Nightwing and Shadow of the Hawk…two pictures I sure as shit had never heard of…so with out further ado, let’s get acquainted with these and see what’s what boils n’ ghouls! Nightwing: Down New Mexico way, ol’ Youngman Duran (Nick Mancuso) is John Q. Law for the local Hopi reservation…a reservation that’s balls deep in cattle mutilations. Enter Abner Tasupi (George Clutesi) a medicine man that seems to be pushing eleventy billion years old. This coot claims he cast a spell to end the world this very night…well one person’s world did end, Abner’s as by morning he is dead as are a shepherd and his flock. Among that headache, Duran is tasked to keep the grizzly goings-on secret as oil has been discovered on the reservation, and the locals don’t want anything to fuck up that deal let me tell ya. Soon the source of the
