Light Up Your Costumes With Masks From Mask Frenzy

This pandemic won’t last forever, and when it’s over you’ll be sure as pumpkin spice and candy corn that there will be awesome Halloween parties again! So how can you stand out at these parties? Well maybe add some “WOW” to your costume with a mask from Mask Frenzy! I have to give a big shout-out to the cool folks at Mask Frenzy for making this review possible! What makes their masks unique if you have not already guessed is the use of El Cold Light technology (an LED light that looks like neon light strips), which highlights features of the mask and makes them pop! The masks I got are the Jason Voorhees and the Purge (in red). I’m sure the origins of the masks need no introduction but for the sake of decency here’s a quick refresher. The famed hockey mask belongs to the behemoth machete-wielding killer Jason from the “Friday the 13th” films after he ditched the

Blu-ray Review: Alice, Sweet Alice (1976)

Paterson, New Jersey, 1961: Catherine Spages (Linda Miller) is mother to two children; the hell-raisin’, mask wearin’, black sheep Alice (Paula E. Sheppard) and the favored child, the pampered Karen (a young Brooke Shields) who both attend St. Michael’s Parish Girls’ School. Naturally Alice spends her days fucking with the innocent Karen (usually adorned in a mask and a yellow raincoat) six ways to Sunday. On the day of her first communion, Karen is strangled, dumped in a bench, and lit on fire by someone decked out in the coat and mask favored by Alice…but is she the culprit? It sure appears so, especially after her mega-bitch aunt, Anne (Jane Lowry), is attacked by our familiar foe…though Alice attests that it is her dead sister causing the mayhem! As the body count rises, will Alice be revealed to be not guilty or will the truth be even more sinister? Filled with a surreal vibe, plenty of religious iconography, a sense

Short Film Review: Masks (2018)

Brad (Alex Loubert) has the high-larious idea to prank his pal Marsha (Vanessa Trenton) as she prepares herself backstage. He stalks the scene as a masked maniac, but soon the ruse is revealed…but the mask goes missing…only to reappear over the face of a stalking psycho! Masks is a simple tale well told. It’s your basic slasher set up for sure, but it’s filled to the brim with slick cinematography, mounting tension, creepy touches (mysterious dolls in this case), and a memorable and iconic killer design (which as long time readers well know I consider an absolute must in a stalk n’ slay flick. To sum it up, writer/director Peter Genoway knows his way around our beloved slasher sub-genre, and I hope to see more from this fella right quick in the ol’ horror biz!

The Avant-Garde Charm Of ‘A Page Of Madness’

When we think of Japanese Horror (J Horror) we think of movies like Ju-on (‘The Grudge’) Ringu (‘The Ring’) and classics like Kwaidan but those we’re dealing with the supernatural, things that some will feel they have a zero and donuts chance of encountering or telling themselves “It’s just a movie.” But an experimental film in 1926 took everything a step further by touching on the subconscious fear of the audience, reality itself. The film, A Page of Madness was directed by Teinosuke Kinugasa and released in Japan in 1926 and was feared lost after WWII till Kinugasa rediscovered the film in 1971 in a storehouse that he hid it in. The silent film has received a lot of mix reviews, a lot of the negative ones are based on the fact that they literally don’t know what’s going on. Unlike most western silent films movie buffs are used to, Japanese silent films did not have intertitles, we now call
