Short Film Review: A Most Unruly Guest (2021)

Remember when I laid my eerie eyeballs on the genius puppet-centric short flicks The Ghost of Weatherton Hall and Down the Rabbit Hole awhile back (if not head here and here for the revoltin’ reviews)? Mark Dickinson, the mastermind between that deadly dup mentioned above, is back (along with Fear Incorporated‘s William Westwater, who once again performs superb narration duties as he did previously) with his latest noxious nugget of horror biz goodness; A Most Unruly Guest! The long and short of this terror tale goes as follows: Young Fredrick answers a call to the manse of Lord Bentley who is preparing to host an unwrapping party… which if you fine fiends didn’t know was the Victorian-era practice of obtaining an honest to Satan Egyptian mummy which one would then de-bandage during a swanky soiree. Of course this goes slightly askew, and before the night ends, the dead will rise and all may be eternal nightmares for our dashing hero!

Short Film Review: Down the Rabbit Hole (2021)

Remember when I laid my eerie eyeballs on the genius puppet-centric short flick The Ghost of Weatherton Hall a few months back (if not head here for the revoltin’ review)? Well, that film’s creator, Mark Dickinson is back (along with Fear Incorporated‘s William Westwater, who preforms excellent narration duties as well) with his latest nice slice of horror biz, Down the Rabbit Hole; a take on Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel; Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland! Down the Rabbit Hole catches up with Alice as she finds herself deep within the nightmarish environs of London’s Bedlam Asylum for the Insane after a nervous breakdown related to a family tragedy. To escape this hellish reality, Alice retreats to Wonderland… though that once vibrant and fantastic landscape has now become every bit as vile and wasted as Alice’s current location! The reason for Wonderland’s current state is directly related to the Queen of Hearts sanity, or lack thereof, as she’s become power drunk and

Short Film Review: The Ghost of Weatherton Hall (2021)

Under perpetually dark, and oft times stormy skies, sits Weatherton Hall; the former Gothic abode of a clan of aristocratic misanthropes and know the dread dwelling of paranormal perils that gather in the dark shadows of the walls of the manse. We soon learn of the source of the festering malignancy; one of the lords of the arcane abode (himself a rather vampiric fellow) decides his sister must be put to an end for her cruelty and does the act one winters night via the cruel blade of an axe! Utilizing an impressive array of authentic props, elaborate miniatures, silent film techniques, and puppetry (which will bring to mind the ghostly glory of the old ViewMaster Dracula reels… ans that is a wickedly wonderful thing indeed my cats n’ creeps!); writer/director Mark Dickinson has truly created a bite-sized monsterpiece that is a feast for the eerie eyeballs through and through! As our marionette cast (created by the artisans at Czech
