31 Days Of Anime Horror Part 14: ‘Junji Ito Collection’

It’s October and that means it’s time to get into the spirit of the season, and obviously nothing gets you into the Halloween mood better than horror. Unfortunately when it comes to most live-action horror films, there’s only so much that can be done and shown, but thankfully of all things, Anime can cross the line with story, gore, and intriguing storytelling. So for every day this month, I’ll be featuring a unique Anime that fits the horror genre that you can most likely find on any streaming service. Let’s witness the horror genius at work in Junji Ito Collection! Junji Ito Collection (2018) is an anthology series showcasing some of the works of horror manga legend Junji Ito. The stories featured are some of Ito’s notable works with some featuring a recurring character Souichi, a mischievous boy with supernatural powers that chews on iron nails who like nothing more than to cause problems with his classmates. Legendary Horror Manga ‘Uzumaki’ Gets Anime Adaptation

If you ask anyone who reads manga which artist makes good horror mangas, you’ll most likely be pointed in the direction of Junji Ito whose stories and the images that accompany them are legendary and frightening. On the opening day of the Crunchyroll Expo 2019, it was announced that Ito’s popular story Uzumaki, will be getting a four-episode anime adaptation. The series will be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama who is known for directing the anime series adaptation of the supernatural adventure Mushishi. Colin Stetson who composed the soundtrack for the film Hereditary will be composing Uzumaki’s soundtrack. Uzumaki is Japanese for “spiral”, in the manga the story revolves around (no pun intended) fictional town where the citizens are tormented by a curse where spirals are appearing in everyday objects and driving people insane to the point that either they turn into snails OR die with their bodies twisted in a spiral. In 2000 a live-action film adaptation was released as

Blu-ray Review: Terra Formars (2016)

In a very Blade Runner influenced future; a group of humanity’s rejects (including the likes of a serial killer, the leader of a child prostitution ring, Yakuza members etc.) are loaded onto a spacecraft and sent on their (un)merry way to Mars where they are to eliminate a roach infestation that is the result of a terra-forming project 500 years previous. In exchange for their service they will have their records wiped clean. Sounds like a breeze, right? Well as fate and sci-fi comic book tropes would have it, those roaches have rapidly evolved into humanoid creatures who are quite able to kick some ass. To combat this situation, our “heroes” are given injections that turn them into super-powered half-human/half-insect hybrids…and then the war for Mars is on in earnest! Directed by the master of disturbing Japanese horror Takashi Miike; Terra Formars is a violent, over-the-top- comic book come to life (not surprising as it is adapted from one). You

Interview With Minecraft Author Danica Davidson

Recently I had the honor and privilege to interview Author Danica Davidson. Danica is leaving her mark on the literary world with quite an extensive resume but her crowning achievement is being the author of a series of books based on the smash hit video game ‘Minecraft’. Horror Fuel: “What or Who, inspired you to become a writer?” Danica Davidson : “I just liked telling stories ever since I was a little kid. I have stories from when I was three, that I either wrote IN VERY BIG LETTERS or my parents wrote down when I dictated it to them (and the letters look much better). I was writing and illustrating my own stapled-together picture books in first grade and writing novels in middle school. I was even submitting to agents and people in publishing at that time, and they all told me I was too young. I didn’t give up.” Horror Fuel: “You have quite a list of notable
