Blu-ray Review: Warriors of the Year 2072 (1984)

It’s 2072, and shit is Blade Runner as fuck. In this foggy, moving billboard landscape a new form of extremely popular motorcycle sport has arisen, and no one is better at it than ol’ Drake (Jared Martin, who you may remember from the ultra-gory late ’80s War of the Worlds television show)… and while the fans love him to itty-bitty pieces, the network sees him as a hurdle in the way of promoting further, more deadlier entertainment… namely a program where death row prisoners are offered a chance at redemption by competing in a “to the death” blood sport! A solution is soon reached; send in some whistling dime store Droogs, have them off Drakes’ lady, and when Drake goes Blood Simple on their asses, throw him in the hoosegow… thus making him a criminal and eligible to “participate” in the new gladiatorial games. Once in training he meets his rag-tag team; acid-scarred dude, Fred “the Hammer” Williamson, mohawk karate

Couture and Creepiness Make for a Fine Pair in Fulci’s “The Psychic” [1977, Blu-ray Review]

Between Leo Fulci’s earlier giallo offerings such as Don’t Torture a Duckling (Non si sevizia un paperino; Italy, 1972) and his later outre horror fare like The Beyond (. . . E tu vivrai nel terrore! L’aldilà; Italy, 1981), the director served up an intriguing play on Hitchcockian mystery with one of his more reserved efforts, The Psychic (Sette note in nero; Italy, 1977, AKA Murder to the Tune of the Seven Black Notes). Though the film has its creaky moments, overall it is a fine, fun example of 1970s horror elements — ESP and other psychic abilities were hot that decade — and its cast members and set decoration all look fabulous. Former CoverGirl cosmetics model turned actress Jennifer O’Neill stars as Virginia Ducci, a stunning, well-dressed woman who, as an elementary school student in Italy, envisioned her mother leaping to her death in Dover as it happened. Virginia has married wealthy Italian businessman Francesco Ducci (Gianni Garko). After

Blu-ray Review: Vengeance Trails Collection (1966 – 1970)

Saddle up to this new collection of cowpokes wanderin’ Revenge Road; Vengeance Trails, which comes our way courtesy of Arrow Video (along with MVD Entertainment) and contains four big features for us to slap our putrid peepers on! Kicking things off we have 1966’s Massacre Time; which tells the tale of ol’ prospectin’ man Tom (Franco Nero, Django himself) who heads home to peep that tyrannical douche Scott (Giuseppe Addobbati) has taken over his land, along with a gang of hench-type folks lead by Scott’s son; the diabolical… Jason ((Nino Castelnuovo)… the evil names could admittedly use a bit of a punch in this one cats n’ creeps… Adding to Tom’s static is some additional family trouble in the form of his brother Jeff (George Hilton), a drunken lout who blames Tom for all their woes… though to be fair, that kinda goes both ways. The problem is, Tom will need Jeff’s help if they are to overthrow Scott and

Blu-ray Review: Demonia (1990)

Picture it; Sicily 1486… a group of monks, doubtless filled with the friskiness of youth, crucify five nuns they believe are witches… Fast forward to the amazing future year 1990 A.D., and Liza (Meg Register) and Professor Evans (Brett Halsey), head to Sicily to investigate a series of ruins on the island even though every mother fucker on there tells them that it’s a rather shit idea… hell even Liza had a terrifying psychic visions of the damned place at a seance held months earlier. Well, Liza finds the bodies of those nuns, and guess what? They really were witches… blood drinkin’, hard fuckin’, Satanic ones at that… and now they are up and at ’em for some (at times) naked tittied supernatural revenge, and not even Inspector Carter (Lucio Fulci) from Interpol can do fuck-all about it! While not as bat-shit crazy as some of Fulci’s previous efforts, Demonia is still pretty fuckin’ fantastic. The ancient monastery and it’s

Blu-ray Review: Aenigma (1987)

As with most films, Lucio Fulci’s Aenigma begins with two friends helping their pal, Kathy (Milijana Zirojevic), get gussied up for a date as a theme song featuring the “not quite Air Supply” stylings of Douglas Meakin (Head Over Heels by name, though the credits are sure it’s Head Over Meels… missed it by that much) gives us a yacht rock punch right to the ol’ hairy beanbag. Well, the joke’s on her as seemingly the entire student body of St. Mary’s College (her “friends” included) laugh their asses off as the sounds of her getting hot n’ heavy with her date are broadcast for all to hear. Long story short, she bolts, is accidentally hit by a car, and rendered comatose. Enter: Eva Gordon (Lara Lamberti), a new student at the university mentioned up yonder that Kathy attended before Sex Noise Scandal ’87 took her motor skills away. Guess what? Kathy is still attending the school as she has

Zombie (1979) – 4K UHD Blu-ray Review

Lucio Fulci’s seminal gut-muncher Zombie (or Zombi 2 as it is sometimes known, as in Italy it was released as a sequel to Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, which is known there as Zombi…confused yet boils n’ ghouls?!!) has always been a favorite of your’s cruelly, and before we even get into the review proper I will whole-heartedly state that every horror hound, zombie lover, and gore aficionado should have this fright flick in their creepy collection…no excuses! For those unfamiliar with the film, the plot goes like this; Journalist Peter West (Ian McCulloch) is called on to investigate a strange ship that drifted into the waters outside of Manhattan…a ship that seemingly contained flesh hungry zombies! Before long, Peter is joined by Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow), the daughter of the boat’s owner, and the duo make for the Caribbean to investigate just what in the hell happened to Anne’s father. Once there our heroes hook up with Brian Hull

Blu-ray Review: House by the Cemetery (1981)

Hot shot New York City doctor Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco) takes over the investigation of a historical home down Massachusetts way started by his pal Dr. Petersen, who just so happens to have offed himself after making his mistress extinct. I certainly hope the former owner of the house had nothing to do with all that unpleasantness… Anyhow, ol’ Norm packs up his wife Lucy (the loverly Catriona MacColl) and his son Bob (who has been having all manner of weird psychic connections to the house in the form of communications with an odd little girl named Mae (Silvia Collatina)… which as strange as that is, doesn’t even come close to matching the blazing nonsense that is his voice in the English dub) and heads to Mass to take up residence in that dread dwelling. One deranged babysitter (Ania Pieroni) and a trip to the basement later, and it becomes clear that the malevolent presence of the house’s previous owner
