Blu-ray Review: Vengeance Trails Collection (1966 – 1970)

Saddle up to this new collection of cowpokes wanderin’ Revenge Road; Vengeance Trails, which comes our way courtesy of Arrow Video (along with MVD Entertainment) and contains four big features for us to slap our putrid peepers on! Kicking things off we have 1966’s Massacre Time; which tells the tale of ol’ prospectin’ man Tom (Franco Nero, Django himself) who heads home to peep that tyrannical douche Scott (Giuseppe Addobbati) has taken over his land, along with a gang of hench-type folks lead by Scott’s son; the diabolical… Jason ((Nino Castelnuovo)… the evil names could admittedly use a bit of a punch in this one cats n’ creeps… Adding to Tom’s static is some additional family trouble in the form of his brother Jeff (George Hilton), a drunken lout who blames Tom for all their woes… though to be fair, that kinda goes both ways. The problem is, Tom will need Jeff’s help if they are to overthrow Scott and

Blu-ray Review: Nosferatu in Venice (1988)

Some duck hunters shoot down a bat which a dog then eats like a complete mother fucker. Thus begins 1988’s Nosferatu in Venice in the only way it possibly could. Next up we have the arrival of the that most Van Helsing of Van Helsings; Professor Paris mother fucking Catalano… yeah I have no clue either, but he’s played by Christopher Plummer (Starcrash) so bonus… and the way he glides into Venice standing straight as an arrow on a fast moving gondola is some big dick energy for sure (and there’s a mirror image of it utilized later in the film that is jaw-droppingly beautiful). Anyway; Catalano is down Venice way to research the last recorded appearance of that dread vampire Nosferatu (Klaus Kinski, who you can bet we’ll be talking more about soon) in the plague-ridden late 1700’s… and yes, the vampire’s name is Nosferatu… not Count Orlok… not Dracula… mother fucking Nosferatu… which just means vampire. Yes indeed…

Blu-ray Review: Double Face (1969)

Tycoon John Alexander (the ever sedate and totally sane Klaus Kinski) has found himself in a marriage with the comely Helen (Margaret Lee) who gets the seven year itch five years t early and begins an affair with her friend Liz. John gets wise to this but Helen soon finds herself tits up as her car crashes due to an explosive device planted on the vehicle. How does our hero deal with his never-ending grief at his wife’s demise? Why by attending one of those “hippie parties” that the kids are so into these days, with a chick that decided to take up residence at his pad while he was away. At that soiree John featuring a chick (sporting a veil) with the same ring and scar Helen had! John then attempts a mad quest to find the woman… Since Double Face contains elements of murder and mystery, and was directed by Italian Riccardo Freda, you may expect this flick

Another ‘Nosferatu’ Remake Is One More Nail In The Coffin Of Genre Creativity

Nosferatu- this is a word you’re all familiar with, isn’t that right my Little Monsters? The word has about as many explanations regarding its meaning and origin as there have been films made about the creature the word represents. Frankly, fans of vampire movies aren’t likely to care much about the word’s true origin, as much as they will care about sub-par movie representations of their favorite blood sucking creatures of the night. One can safely say that Vampire movies have always been something of a cash cow for studios. Especially since, for better or worse, filmmakers are always finding new ways to keep said subject matter alive, or perhaps undead would be a better way of putting it. Of course this doesn’t stop the studios from trying to squeeze every last cinematic drop of blood they can from the king of the vampires himself, Count Dracula. The most recent attempt at telling the Dracula story was the origin piece
