Artist Spotlight: Giuseppe Balestra

A little while back I did a review of the new fantastic Ghostbusters Art Book, a collection of amazing artists paying tribute to the iconic movie. In my review, I listed some of my favorite pieces, the poster by the incredibly talented artist Giuseppe Balestra. I feel that Giuseppe’s artwork deserves a more in-depth look. Born in Rome and raised in South Italy, the artist prefers using pen and inks, cross-hatching and stippling, before eventually combining digital color, drawing inspiration from literature, movies, especially horror and fantasy. I like to create illustrations in which the darkness of the shadows stands in contrast to the light. They’ve been called “melancholic, mysterious and poetic. I’ve always loved doing art since I was a child, always experimenting with all kinds of media. I published my first work in late 2015 in The Lovecraft eZine vol.36 and since then I’ve been doing it professionally, working on internal illustrations and covers for books, posters, and

Most items you find on the shop range from 3D printed parts, jewelry, and pies with human faces… Yes, you’ve read that right. Documentary Explores The Art Of Vincent Castiglia Who Paints In Blood

Artists put their soul into their creations, their pieces are part of them, but one artist is putting something more into their art, blood. The amazing artist Vincent Castiglia’s preferred medium is the blood of his and his subjects. In his artwork, he explores life, death, and everything in between. Now, a new documentary, Bloodlines: The Art and Life of Vincent Castiglia, from John Borowski (H.H. Holmes: America’s First Serial Killer) hopes to reveal more about the artist and his work. This is a deeply personal film for Vincent and I am honored to have worked closely with him on the film. I feel many people will see this film as inspirational, even though it is a dark ride through pain and suffering. Vincent’s life journey, much like his art, reflects both the dark and ultimately the light that shines through the darkness.” Borowski states. Vincent Castiglia has been commissioned to create paintings for many celebrities. Some who are featured

Divers Find Life Size Jason Voorhees Statue In A Minnesota Lake

It just doesn’t get any better than horror fans. Time and again they prove not only to be dedicated but some of the most awesome people out there. One fan, Curtis Lahr took his love of Friday the 13th to the next level. Lahr created an underwater scene straight out of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Let me refresh your memory. At the end of the film, Tommy Jarvis stops Jason Voorhees by chaining him to the bottom of Crystal Lake putting him back in the same spot where he died as a kid. The image of Jason floating there chained is one of the most iconic horror images out there. In 2014 Lahr brought the scene to life and constructed a life-size statue and installed it at a popular diving location in Crosby, Minnesota. The statue has just now been discovered by divers and it has gone viral. Take a look.

An Interview With Horror Photographer And Artist Eric Richardson

At this February’s Days of the Dead Atlanta convention, I met a very talented photographer by the name of Eric Richardson at his booth. This week I had a chance to sit down and talk with Eric about his photography, his tattoos, and being buried alive (yes, you read that right). Horror Fuel: “I heard you won part of the tattoo contest at Days of the Dead Atlanta, congratulations.” Eric: “Yeah, I won for my back piece, it’s dedicated to ‘The Twilight Zone’. It’s nice to win one. My artist, Eric Newby, really wants me to enter them. My back piece is worthy.” Horror Fuel: “It looks amazing. That must have taken a while.” Eric: “36 hours, 10 sessions, I think. I gave him a bunch of stuff I wanted to be represented, all my favorite episodes. He gave me this picture and I was like, ‘Wow! The World of Art Has Lost A Legend In Bernie Wrightson

Hello my Little Monsters. Today I greet you with a heavy heart, since the art world has lost a legendary member of its ranks, Bernie Wrightson. Bernie had retired in January of this year, citing health issues he had experienced following brain surgery. Sadly, earlier today he lost his battle with brain cancer. Bernie got his start as an illustrator for The Baltimore Sun, but it was a chance meeting with his one of his major artistic influences (and one of my personal favorites), Frank Frizetta, that inspired him to delve into comic book art. Bernie’s first endeavor for DC Comics was creating the art for a story in the March/April 1968 issue of House of Mystery (No. 179), entitled “The Man Who Murdered Himself”. Three years later Bernie would team with writer Len Wein to create arguably hist most famous creation Swamp Thing for the July 1971 issue of DC’s House of Secrets (No. 92). Bernie had done the

A Look At The Incredible Creations Of Rusty Blonde

Last night while scrolling through Facebook I came across a necklace with the sculpted bust of the werewolf from ‘The Howling’. It blew my mind. I had to look further into the artist’s page, Rusty Blonde Art. I found jewelry depicting sculpts of everyone from Poe to Edward Scissorhands to Jack Torrance from ‘The Shining’. It was not all jewelry, there are also figures that look so real that I had to look twice, then a third time. They are all absolutely amazing. Imge Celepçi (aka Rusty Blonde), an amazingly gifted freelance artist/sculpter from Istanbul, Turkey. After only four years of working with Polymer clay, at the age of 33 Imge has the skill that normally takes a lifetime to build. Her workshop can be found at the isolated house in rural Istanbul that she shares with her husband, who she bills as “the best known metal singer/musician in the country”, and their four rescue dogs.
