Punk Rock Horror Flick ‘The Ranger’ Hunts Down A January Release

A71 Entertainment is set to release the punk rock slasher The Ranger early in January. The film is the feature debut of Jenn Wexler, a past Shudder Labs master, and producer of the SXSW Grand Jury Prize-winner, Most Beautiful Island. The festival favorite, which premiered at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, follows a group of young punks who are forced to flee the city to lay low, only to run into a park ranger who shares a mysterious past with one of their own. The film has been lauded for its standout performances from Chloë Levine (The Transfiguration, The OA) as the pink-haired punk with a secret, and Jeremy Holm (House of Cards, “Mr. Robot”) as the maniacal ranger, ready to get his hands bloody in defense of the woods. Granit Lahu (“The Sinner”), Jeremy Pope, Bubba Weiler (Puzzle), Amanda Grace Benitez (School of Rock), Jeté Laurence (Pet Sematary) and horror icon Larry Fessenden (Habit, We Are Still Here)

Movie Review: The Ranger (2018)

A group of young punk rockers go on the lam after their approximation of a leader Garth (Granit Lahu) stabs a cop while rescuing his gal pal Chelsea (Chloe Levine) from John Q. Law after making a break from a raid on a club they were getting high in. The group find themselves deep in the woods, contraband in tow, and hole up in Chelsa’s late uncle’s (the legendary Larry Fessenden) cabin shortly after a run in with a rather off-kilter Park Ranger (Jeremy Holm); who it is revealed has ties to Chelsea’s past…a past that she can’t fully remember. Soon shots are fired, and hunting season has officially opened on punks…and if you read the title of this review (and why would you click on this if you hadn’t) you can guess who’s doing the ol’ stalk n’ slay bit! Now the question is, how many of our hard rockin’ heroes is going to be strollin’ out of those

Punk Rockers Flee ‘The Ranger’ In New Trailer

Like Me, Most Beautiful Island, and Psychopaths‘ producer Jenn Wexler makes her directorial debut with The Ranger, which premieres Monday, March 12 in the Midnight Section at SXSW. Today the trailer has arrived giving a PSA turned nightmare feel. In the film, after “Chelsea and her friends get in trouble with the cops, they flee the city and go on the run. Fueled by a hallucinogenic drug called Echo, they hope to lay low-and get high-in an old family hideout in the woods. But Chelsea’s got reservations about going back to nature and secrets she’s not sharing with her friends. When a shot rings out, her past comes crashing back, and the punks find themselves pitted against the local authority- an unhinged park ranger with an axe to grind.” Jeremy Holm (Mr Robot), Chloe Levine (The OA), Amanda Grace Benitez (All Cheerleaders Die) co-star alongside Granit Lahu, Jeremy Pope, and Bubba Weiler. Novelist Ed Kurtz provided the film’s voiceover and
