Players Facing Death In ‘Visage’

For gamers that like in your face horror games that give you the feeling that you’re living a horror movie experience, SadSquare Studio brings the horror home in ‘Visage’. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game will most likely be released in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and yes, there will be a VR option! The title of the game comes from the old French/Latin word that means a person’s face or facial expression which is fitting since the game’s tagline seems to be, “Each death has its Visage.” ‘Visage’ takes place in the 1980’s in a large house where the player lives. The house over the years has been plagued by violent deaths in nearly every room. Players explore the house to unravel the mysteries it holds by witnessing the deaths of the past while at the same time trying to not attract too much dark energy by being afraid. In some respect the game visually

Movie Review: The Spiritualist Won’t Conjure Up Much Spirited Fun.

Poor Laura; her nights are filled with a real plastic hassle of screaming, unending terror…night terrors to be precise (this probably not helped by the fact she lives in a creepy-as-balls mansion). Any ol’ way, L-Dawg is also dealing with the recent death of her mother who was nuttier than a goddamned fruit cake. Naturally, there are only two answers to what’s plaguing our heroine: her mother is haunting her like a MF’er, or Laura too has a bad case of beastly bats in her belfry. Regardless, a medium is called, a seance is performed, and Laura and her friends experience a violence laden experience. No refunds. Let’s start with what works with The Spiritualist, shall we? Well, it’s well acted, with Caroline Burns Cooke as the titular spiritualist being a real standout (as is the entire seance sequence). I also enjoyed the unconventional approach to parts of the narrative (the film almost seems like two films in one…and more

Haunted Destinations: St. Augustine, FL

We’re continuing our northward tour of haunted locations throughout America. We started in Key West, FL and now we’re visiting St. Augustine. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States, so it’s not really surprising that by most accounts it’s also among the top 3 most haunted cities in the U.S., too. Savannah, GA and New Orleans are often mentioned as the other two-thirds of the most haunted list. I’ve had the pleasure of going on ghost tours in both of those cities as well, and we’ll cover the top haunted locations in each, but for today we’re going to focus on the Florida city founded by Don Pedro de Aviles in 1585. Here are the top 5 haunted locations in St. Augustine, FL. Castillo de San Marcos This Spanish fort was built in the 17th century, and it’s packed with accounts of the paranormal. One of the fort’s watchtowers has been known to project a light from

Haunted Destinations: Key West, Florida

If you’re like me, vacation planning usually involves researching at least one ghost tour wherever I happen to be taking the family on that particular trip. The great news for horror fans is that there is certainly no shortage of tours out there in virtually every destination you’d want to visit. I thought it might be fun to include an overview of some haunts for top vacation destinations from time to time, so with any luck this article will be the first of many “haunted destination” entries. But where should we start? Well, I’m a Floridian, so I thought we’d start with the southern-most point of the continental United States and work our way up. So without further ado, I present to you our first haunted destination, and one of my favorite vacation spots on the planet: Key West, Florida. The Florida Keys make for an awesome road trip. Crystal clear waters are full of some of the best snorkeling,

Amityville Horrible

Reality vs. Bullshit The only fact about any of the Amityville Horror films is that the DeFeo family was murdered in their sleep inside the house on 112 Ocean Avenue. The real horror is what the surviving relatives of the murdered Defeo’s must endure every time one of these lousy films is made. Hollywood cynicism goes beyond making bad films and trying to pass them off as good or worse yet, classics. The real cynicism is from the studios that torture the DeFeo family and make a buck off a terrible situation. As a result, I wonder, has any studio that made these films ever donated a few posthumous bucks to the DeFeo family for their trouble? I’m not one for reparations, but many of these films invoke the DeFeo name. Maybe a scholarship or two set up in memory of the victims? A lot of people made a lot of money off this family’s tragedy. As a result, they

Spectre Show by Shaun Avery & David Broughton

Spectre Show #1 is an interesting independent comic that I found out about when speaking with the comic’s writer, Shaun Avery about the horror anthology project I’m currently working on. The description of the comic provided on the Comicsy website, when combined with the cover, piqued my interest. Fortunately, he and artist/letterist/cover artist David Broughton sent me a digital copy to review and share with you, and I’m back with the results! Comic Description: SPECTRE SHOW #1. Remember where you were the day the gates to the afterlife collapsed? The day humanity discovered that the spirits of the dead could possess their bodies at will, and that those spirits were very, very angry? No? Well, we can’t say we blame you for blocking it out of your mind . . .all that murder, torment and carnage. Let writer Shaun Avery and artist David Broughton and a psychotic TV host called Ted E. Scare be your memory. But be warned –
