Season Two Of “Destination Fear” Tests The Resolve Of The Team

There’s no turning back on the haunting road trip – “Destination Fear” is gearing up for a chilling new season. The season premiere tests the resolve of team members Dakota Laden, Chelsea Laden, and Tanner Wiseman as they spend the night inside of Minnesota’s infamous Nopeming Sanatorium. “Our last road trip was extremely intense, and it took a major toll on us – mentally and physically,” said Dakota Laden. “We had to really think about how much more we could handle – even Alex, who has been critical in capturing all of the action as our cameraman. But curiosity got the best of us. Our ability to withstand fear will be tested like never before.” Lured by the unknown and with a greater understanding of fear, the crew explores a whole new set of abandoned locations with grim haunted histories and restless spirits lurking within. Only this time the destinations remain a surprise, not just to Chelsea and Tanner, but

Ghost Welcomes Papa Emeritus IV!

On March 3rd at the final show of their tour in Mexico City, Ghost shocked fans at the event as a major turning point occurred in the middle of the performance. During a performance of the instrumental song Miasma, like at other shows, the elder of the church, Papa Nihil, the ancestor of all the previous lead singers Papa Emeritus I, II, and III, comes out and rocks an awesome saxophone solo and usually collapses into the arms or bodyguards before giving a final blow of the sax at the end of the song. But something was different during this performance…Papa Nihil collapsed on the ground and crews were trying to resuscitate him while Ghost’s current lead singer Cardinal Copia (Tobias Forge) was continuing the show as normal before finally realizing the situation occurring behind him when it became obvious that Papa Nihil died on stage. The Cardinal was then flooded with white spotlights as organs played and several nuns

Blu-ray Review: House by the Cemetery (1981)

Hot shot New York City doctor Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco) takes over the investigation of a historical home down Massachusetts way started by his pal Dr. Petersen, who just so happens to have offed himself after making his mistress extinct. I certainly hope the former owner of the house had nothing to do with all that unpleasantness… Anyhow, ol’ Norm packs up his wife Lucy (the loverly Catriona MacColl) and his son Bob (who has been having all manner of weird psychic connections to the house in the form of communications with an odd little girl named Mae (Silvia Collatina)… which as strange as that is, doesn’t even come close to matching the blazing nonsense that is his voice in the English dub) and heads to Mass to take up residence in that dread dwelling. One deranged babysitter (Ania Pieroni) and a trip to the basement later, and it becomes clear that the malevolent presence of the house’s previous owner

Blu-ray Review: The Peanut Butter Solution (1985)

Mike (Mathew Mackay); junior soccer star, son to a attic-dwelling painter, and object of derision to his robe-wearin’ sister… also, friend to winos, as the children oft are. Anyway, speaking of those winos, they get burned to death in a fire, you know because that’s fun for the whole family! Long story long, Mikey goes to the scene of the immolation looking foe survivors and gets the ever-loving shit scared out of him… which causes all of his hair to fall out (no bald cap here, my dude Mackay actually shaved his head for this flick),a nd for him to lose his damn mind. To solve the prob, his sis and pops super glue a wig to his head… which of course gets as much accomplished as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest (and let me just say, when Mike’s mom gets back from her sojurn in Australia she will doubtless be hella fuckin’ pissed)… but thankfully

Blu-ray Review: The Ringu Collection (1998 – 2000)

1998’s Ringu is the fright flick phenom that started a J-horror wave that spread across continents, and today I’m going to be putting my putrid peepers on a whole mess of them preternatural pictures, so gather the fuck ’round! First up is the “original” Ringu (this is technically the third film adaptation of Kōji Suzuki’s 1991 novel), who’s plot goes a lil’ something like this: After a gaggle of teenage girls begin dying seemingly from extreme fright, investigative reporter Reiko Asakawa (Nanako Matsushima), an aunt of one of the victims, begins to believe the tales of a cursed video tape she has been researching may be involved. Discovering the girls rented a cabin before their demise, our heroine treks out there and actually finds the damn tape… which of course she watches, even though she knows the evil within will most likely come a-callin’ on her soon. And what an “evil” it is; namely a tortured ghost of a mutant

Movie Review: Into the Dark: School Spirit (2019)

Goody-two-shoes Erica (Annie Q) unbelievably finds herself slammed into weekend detention, and before you can say “This shit seems like The Breakfast Club” she suffers the barbs of the various reprobates stuck in there with her as well as the ‘tude of the gruff-as-all-shit Vice Principal runnin’ the show. Said hard ass makes our “heroes” clean up the school as punishment, before retiring to his office to appease that ol’ demon in a bottle. Talk among that gang of goofs soon turns to the urban legend of a g-g-ghost dressed as an admiral that haunts those hallowed halls…and the fact some of them believe said specter is behind students that have recently gone missing. Soon the kids end up being locked in the school, and of course what was thought to be mere legend is in fact a murderous reality! Definitely the most lightweight of the Into the Dark series thus far, School Spirit is a by the numbers, teen

All Work And No Play Makes “The Shining” A Dull Film

Does Anyone Remember? The Shining film has had plenty written about it. Spielberg made it a center plot point in Ready Player One, focusing on the fact that its creator, Stephen King, hated the film. I think that was a great scene, and far more entertaining in some respects than the actual film. You can read just one of many King articles on this HERE. Cynema is not about film reviews. It’s looking at cynicism in filmmaking and entertainment. Kubrick’s translation of King’s novel has a certain amount of cynicism to it. After some online conversations, I thought I would get this out and off my plate. Was Kubrick a tad cynical in his vision for The Shining? Nostalgia has given Kubrick’s “horror masterpiece” a free pass, in my opinion. Many forget that the film’s 1980 release saw tepid reviews and an indifferent reception. The film made money and did well on cable and home video where it went into

Blu-ray Review: Scared Stiff (1987)

In the late 1800’s, a shit heel of a slaver named George Masterson (David Ramsey) is cursed by the poor souls he bought and sold…flash forward to the late 1980’s, and a Psychiatrist named David (Andrew Stevens) and his pop singer gal pal (and former patient), Kate (Mary Page Keller) move into that doomed a-holes house…what could go wrong? The answer of course is every fucking thing. Heralded by an abundance of natures most terrifying creations, pigeons…wait, fucking pigeons?!! Anyway, a few bad dreams and visions, some outre discoveries in the abode (read: centuries old corpses and a strange talisman), and yes, pigeons, lead to a voodoo monster terrorizing our heroes six ways to Sunday! While a bit of a slow burn in the actual horror department, Scared Stiff never became tedious for your’s cruelly (and the third act pay-off is an absolutely fantastic display of gooey, monster-packed practical effects wizardry and well worth the wait). The ages old mystery,

Movie Review: Mandao of the Dead

Major league weird cat and heir to an award losing breakfast cereal “empire” Jay Mandao (Scott Dunn…who also wrote and directed the film) lives with his equally eccentric adult nephew Jackson (Sean McBride)…who sleeps in a tent within the apartment…yeah…Anyway, the night before Halloween, Jay has an out of body experience via astral projection which eventually leads our heroes to begin astral projecting slightly backwards through time to help a ghost avoid their murder. Absolute insanity ensues. Mandao of the Dead is one hell of a bizarre ride boils n’ ghouls. Everything from our off-kilter heroes…played with likable charm, even when Jay is being a tad on the gruff side and Jackson is being…Jackson, to the strange astral projection, time travel, and murder angles, and left-of-center humor all coalesce into a heady stew of engaging storytelling, solid world building, and just straight up fun. On the downside, the pacing of this film is equally as odd as the story itself.
