Blu-ray Review: Night of the Animated Dead (2021)

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own” Night of the Animated Dead is, and get this, an animated version of Night of the Living Dead. Yeah, I have no idea why either… The story of this flick is exactly the same as the George Romero directed, John Russo scripted 1968 masterpiece that made zombies into the iconic move monsters they are today: Barbra (the Ginger Snaps‘ series Katharine Isabelle) retreats to a nearby deserted farmhouse after a ghoul attacks and kills her brother at a cemetery on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. Once there she encounters Ben (Psych’s Dulé Hill) and a handful of other survivors of what is revealed to be a full-on zombie apocalypse (quite fresh in ’68, not so much now… ). The small band tries to keep their shit together while trying to survive the night without being

Unseen George A. Romero Film May Finally Be Released

Back in 1973, George A. Romero made a film for TV, but it never aired and has gone nearly unseen. Titled The Amusement Park, the film made news on Twitter this weekend when best-selling author Daniel Kraus (The Shape of Water, The Living Dead) announced he was watching the “virtually unseen” Romero movie. During the thread, Kraus called the film “a revelation,” and “Romero’s most overtly horrifying film.” The people who funded it wouldn’t allow it. And no wonder. It’s hellish. In Romero’s long career of criticizing American institutions, never was he so merciless,” Kraus stated. “Where can you see this savage masterwork? You can’t. But I’m dedicating myself to changing that. Can you help? Yes, probably. Give me some time to figure out what’s what.” He continued. “This is truly one of those magical (cursed?) objects that I cannot believe has fallen through the cinematic cracks. We’ll drag it back.” Romeo’s widow, Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, has already told fans that

Greg Nicotero Joins Shudder’s ‘Creepshow’ Series

Nearly three decades after the theatrical release of George Romero’s horror anthology Creepshow is getting a series adaptation from “Walking Dead” director Greg Nicotero. Nicotero will direct and executive produce several of the episodes of the Shudder series as well as oversee it. Romero’s original, released in 1982, featured segments by master of horror Stephen King and starred names like Ted Danson and Adrienne Barbeau. The film was so well loved that it spawned two sequels and a comic. Nicotero has a deep connection to Creepshow. He worked alongside Romero on Creepshow 2 and Day of the Dead. Creepshow is a project very close to my heart! It is one of those titles that embrace the true spirit of horror…thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book came to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the spirit in which it was created.” Nicotero stated. Set to premiere on Shudder next year, each

George A. Romero’s Unfinshed Novel Will Be Completed By ‘Shape Of Water’ Writer

Before Master of Horror George A. Romero passed away last year he was working on a new novel about, you guessed it, zombies. Titled The Living Dead, the novel was meant to transition Romero’s zombie tales from the big screen to print. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish The Living Dead before he passed, but like his beloved zombies, the book will rise from the dead. EW is reporting that The Shape of Water writer Daniel Kraus has signed on to complete the novel which will be released in the Fall of 2019, via Tor. What’s exciting about the novel…It’s huge. It’s a massively scaled story, a real epic, the kind no one ever gave him the budget to film,” Kraus told EW. “In a book, of course, there is no budget, and in his pages you can feel his joy of being able, at last, to do every single thing he wanted.” He continued. “TThe state [of the

Tina Romero Making A Zombie Film That Would Make Her Father George A. Romero Proud

Earlier this week we told you that Tina Romero, George A. Romero’s daughter, and Tom Savini will be directing episodes of a new web series. Now we can report that Tina Romero has another project in the works, one that her father would be proud of, a zombie movie. During a conversation with The Saunder Blog, Tina gave details about her upcoming film Queens of the Dead. Queens of the Dead is a fusion of two huge parts of my world: zombies and Gay nightlife,” she told the site. “It’s a tribute to my father as well as my entrée into the genre he grandfathered. I can’t say too much yet, but what I can tell you is that this film will have all the hallmarks of a George A. Romero classic: farce, politics, heroes, assholes, and most importantly, herds of silly and slow moving walkers that you can’t help but love. But I’m doing it Tina-style, and bringing the

Bub Gets A New Look And New Name In The ‘Day Of The Dead’ Remake

Fans were crushed earlier this month when George A. Romero passed away. One of his most cherished classics is Day of the Day. Today, we have a first look at Jonathan Schaech who will be playing the role of the intelligent zombie in Héctor Vicens’ remake. Originally named Bub, the iconic character has a new name in the upcoming remake. He is now called Max. That’s a pretty big change for such a well known zombie. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Schaech described Max as “more as a Hulk thank Bub.” Max is more of a “Bub on steroids”. In the remake, Max is obsessed with the new character Zoe (Sophia Skelton). Schaech also compared the new version of Romero’s 1985 classic with ‘The Walking Dead’, which interesting considering the fact that Romeo made it clear on several occasions that he disliked the hit series. Basically, it’s just a Soap Opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the

New 4K Transfer Of ‘Effects’ To Hit Blu-Ray This August

Taken from the only theatrical print known to exist, AGFA (the American Genre Film Archive), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of genre films, will unleash Effects on Blu-Ray on August 22, 2017. Written and directed by Dusty Nelson (Sakura Killers), Effects is a do-it-yourself horror flick weaving the story of a gang of coke-addled filmmakers gathered in Pittsburgh to film a faux-snuff slasher film. As a series of grisly accidents cause the casualties to pile up, it becomes clear that no one on the film’s crew is to be trusted. Equal parts low-budget Carpenter-esque student film and gory exploitation piece (think 1976 splatterpiece Snuff), Effects is both a study of the philosophy of horror, and a simple, sleazy genre film. Starring effects master Tom Savini along with Joe Pilato (Day of the Dead), and John Harrison (Tales from the Darkside: The Movie), Effects was produced by both Harrison and Pasquale Buba. Savini provides the film’s visual effects.

Days Of The Dead: Indianapolis – They Came, We Saw, And It Kicked Ass

So here we are my Little Monsters, Days of the Dead: Indianapolis has been over for a full week and that post convention depression is still lingering, but at least I have completely recuperated from the festivities . The horror community tends to feel like a big family to me, and horror cons are like a huge family reunion of sorts. And even though I have been to many comic and pop culture conventions, horror cons are where I feel most at home. While I, as many of you do, enjoy films across all genres, horror is without a doubt my favorite of them all. For three days I got to spend time with my convention family, and now all I am left with, besides autographs and some other cool things I snagged, are the pictures I took and the memories. But they are some pretty damn cool pics memories, I must say. Attending Days of the Dead gave me
