4K Ultra HD Review: Two Evil Eyes (1990)

Two Evil Eyes is an arcane anthology divided into two halves (it’s all there in the title folks), both directed by legendary horror directors (George A. Romero and Dario Argento for those keepin’ score at home) and based on the writing of Edgar Allan Poe (The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar and The Black Cat respectively). Let’s kick out the jams with Romero’s joint, shall we? Jessica Valdemar (Adrienne Barbeau) is what one would call “a reluctant shit-heel”; sure she’s conspiring with Dr. Robert Hoffman (Ramy Zada) to bilk her dying husband, Ernest (Bingo O’Malley) out of his vast fortune via hypnosis… but she doesn’t feel great about it, until the dough begins to be well in hand that is. As fate would have it, Ernest buys the farm, so Bob and Jess chuck his dead ass in a large freezer in the basement and carry on with the Devil’s business… which you’d imagine would go smoothly, but

Along with screenwriters, Susanne Romero is working to complete it and plans to meet with directors soon, THR reports. Twilight of the Dead is intended to be the “concluding chapter” in George A. Romero‘s zombie “Dead” franchise, including the six existing films, that began in 1968 with the classic film Night of the Living Dead. Twilight of the Dead was written by George A. Romero along with Palo Zelati. After Romero’s death, Zelati requested to continue work on the script and brought on writers Joe Knetter and Robert L. Lucas. Shudder To Release Lost George A. Romero Movie ‘The Amusement Park’

In 1973, genre icon George A. Romero made the film The Amusement Park, but it was never released, until now. Shudder is set to release the film this summer, Variety reports. The film was commissioned by the Lutheran Society, which hired Romero to make a socially conscious movie meant to draw attention to the plight of the elderly in contemporary society. However, after watching it, the non-profit group decided it was too gruesome for mainstream audiences and it never was released. Lincoln Maazel stars as an elderly man who becomes increasingly disoriented during a visit to a theme park. What he initially thinks will be an ordinary day quickly turns into a hellish nightmare filled with roller coasters and chaotic crowds. The film was discovered back in 2018 by longtime Guillermo del Toro collaborator Daniel Kraus and was restored in 4K Ultra. Romero’s widow, Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, produces the film. This is not the only lost Romero project recently brought to

Daniel Kraus Discusses Co-Writing George A. Romero’s Last Novel ‘The Living Dead’

You don’t get more prolific in the zombie genre than writer-director George A. Romero. When you hear the word zombie, his name comes to mind. Sadly, we lost Romero when he passed away on July 16, 2017. But July 16 left behind several projects, including the half-written novel The Living Dead. Romero’s widow wanted to see the novel complete, so she reached out to best-selling novelist Daniel Kraus, the same author who co-wrote The Shape of Water with Guillermo del Toro. Now, after years of work, the novel is complete and soon to be released. I sat down with Kraus to talk about The Living Dead and the process of bringing George A. Romero’s final body of work to his fans and the world. Kraus has a long record of delivering brilliant novels, including Trollhunters, adapted for the Netflix series Scowler, Rotters, and so many more. He expressed how honored he was to co-write the novel, and I think he

As fans mourned many came to the realization that we would never see another book or film from the godfather of the zombie genre. As three years passed, the world had no idea that a new body of work from Romero would surface. After the filmmaker’s death his widow and agent stumbled across a partially written book. After reading it, they reached out to New York Best Seller Daniel Kraus, the author who had teamed up with Guillermo del Toro to write both The Shape of Water and Trollhunters which both earned adaptations. Kraus set out to finish Romero’s novel The Living Dead. We asked Kraus about the process of properly capturing Romero’s vision. …studying all his films, screenplays, interviews, interviewing people who knew him, long talks with his wife, then reading critical analysis of his work.
