Dark Comedy-Thriller ‘The Estate’ Slashing Its Way Into Theaters & Onto VOD

Director James Kapner makes his feature debut with The Estate, part dark comedy, part thriller, which reminds us that family reunions can be brutal. In the film, when a narcissistic son (Chris Baker), yearning for a life of luxury, and his father’s erratic gold-digging wife (Eliza Coupe) decide to kill their way into their inheritance, they employ the help of an absurdly handsome, mysterious hitman (Greg Finley), initiating a psychosexual love triangle that spirals into more than anyone bargained for. Deftly balancing sharp humor and horror, The Estate delivers a perfectly campy, wildly enjoyable thrill ride that packs a deadly punch. Written by Chris Baker, The Estate also stars Eliza Coupe, Chris Baker, Lala Kent, Heather Matazarro, and Eric Roberts. The Estate debuts in theaters and VOD on October 22, 2021, from Vertical Entertainment.

Blu-ray Review: The Peanut Butter Solution (1985)

Mike (Mathew Mackay); junior soccer star, son to a attic-dwelling painter, and object of derision to his robe-wearin’ sister… also, friend to winos, as the children oft are. Anyway, speaking of those winos, they get burned to death in a fire, you know because that’s fun for the whole family! Long story long, Mikey goes to the scene of the immolation looking foe survivors and gets the ever-loving shit scared out of him… which causes all of his hair to fall out (no bald cap here, my dude Mackay actually shaved his head for this flick),a nd for him to lose his damn mind. To solve the prob, his sis and pops super glue a wig to his head… which of course gets as much accomplished as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest (and let me just say, when Mike’s mom gets back from her sojurn in Australia she will doubtless be hella fuckin’ pissed)… but thankfully

Movie Review: Debunkers, Inc. (2019)

The Debunkers; amateur detectives, video game enthusiasts, eternal virgins… okay, I made that last bit up, but it can be inferred with a large probability of being true… wait, where was I? Oh yeah, The Debunkers; Link (Josh Pinkowski), Snake (Izzy Pollak) and Dr. Mario (Blake Kevin Dwyer)… along with new recruit, Canadian foreign exchange student Shiek (Nicole DuBois) are the premier mystery debunking business in their town, a town that doesn’t exactly seem like it would be a hotbed of mysteries which makes their profit margin rather low I’d wager. Of course that all changes when two desperate girls, Heather and Joyce by name, come a-knocking with a real puzzler… figuring out who put the murder biz on their gal pal Nina. With a murderer around, The Debunkers will surely die… the end… okay, maybe they will prevail and become true heroes… but my money is on their demise. Look, I’ll lay it on the line here, Debunkers Inc.

Movie Review: The Tooth Fairy (2018)

As family and friends gather on a failing rural farm, we learn that years previous they managed to capture an evil witch (the Tooth Fairy…I don’t even fucking know), and imprison her in the barn by way of sugar and dangling candy canes (sounds ridiculous, and it is…but you lot all know I dig on the absurd, so well played movie…well played). Well that seemingly fool proof prison is thwarted when a drifter simply opens the door and frees the wicked bitch of the west (after she chisels some of his teeth out of course). This results in her stalking and granting dark wishes (in exchange for teeth ‘natch) to the sad sack family…now, can they dispatch her once more and get on with their dreary lives? First the positives to be had with the Tooth Fairy. For starters, the dreary setting (always overcast and completely remote) is full atmosphere and a suitable aesthetic choice for the tale of a
