Blu-ray Review: Elvira’s Haunted Hills (2001)

After an uproarious intro from the Mistress of the Dark herself, we dive right into the meat and potatoes (and what potatoes they are) of Elvira’s Haunted Hills; her second frightful feature film (following 1988’s Elvira: Mistress of the Dark) now available on Blu-ray thanks to those delicious devils o’er at Scream Factory! Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) and her maidservant/comedic foil Zou Zou (played to absolute perfection by Mary Jo Smith) are on their way to Paris (where our titular heroine can perform in a can-can revue) via the Carpathian mountains in the year 1851. After a disagreement with an innkeeper our heroes et off on foot where they are soon picked up by a carriage occupied by Dr, Bradley Bradley (Scott Atkinson in the Price role) who is en route to a nearby castle occupied by the intense-as-fuck Lady Ema Hellsubus (Mary Scheer) and her sound-adverse husband Lord Vladimir Hellsubus (Rocky Horror Picture Show mastermind Richard O’ Brien in the

That’s right, the famous horror host is LBGTQ+. The two met at the Hollywood Gold’s Gym where Peterson was visiting with her boyfriend at the time. After Peterson ended her marriage to musician turned manager Mark Pierson, the friendship with “T” evolved and after a while, the two realized they were in love. Since that time “T” Wierson has been working as Peterson’s assistant and the two maintained a private relationship, that is until the truth was revealed in her book earlier today. Her reason

DVD Review: Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! (2020)

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own. Scooby (Frank Welker) and the gang, Fred (also voiced by Welker), Daphne (Grey Griffin), Velma (Kate Micucci), and Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) are up to their arcane armpits in preternatural peril when ye olde friendly neighborhood pumpkin patch is covered in toxic waste (accompanied by a cue that definitely brings to mind 1985’s Return of the Living Dead) which results in the pumpkins coming to life and they have the horror biz foremost on their monstrous minds! Seems like a solid Scooby-Doo scenario… how about if I told you that Elvira (the legendary Cassandra Peterson herself, ‘natch) shows up, as does Bill Nye the Science Guy (himself, though amped-up to 11)… and the Scarecrow (The A-Team‘s world famous Howlin’ Mad Murdock, Dwight Shultz)… like from Batman… yeah, what the what now?!! With it’s faster pace
