This October the Italian exorcism documentary ‘Deliver Us’, also known as ‘Libera Nos’, from director Federick Di Giacomo, will open in LA and two other locations (yet to be announced). Every Tuesday, many believers follow his mass of liberation, searching for a cure for some adversity for which there does not seem to be a label or a remedy. The Catholic Church reacts to this crisis by nominating priests as exorcists in increasing numbers and by organizing training courses for them. In order to respond to the rising number of requests for deliverance from evil, all French dioceses have installed at least one exorcist. In Spain, the archdiocese of Madrid is

Slenderman – The Modern Terror

A simple contest on June 10, 2009 by the internet forum Something Awful created a modern and unique monster. The contest challenged people to take everyday photographs and make them appear paranormal. Complete with comments from faux eye –witnesses, forum poster Victor Surge used images of groups of children and inserted a man. This man was tall, thin, white-faced and wearing a dark suit with a red tie. As this man stood ominously over the children, a phenomenon was born. Slenderman was not developed from ancient myths, or fairy tales. He is not found in a book and merely brought to life via media or film. This man is a wonderful piece of modern folk-lore. Generations from now, Slenderman will be included in the cannon of horror along with gremlins, trolls, the boogieman and everything else that goes bump in the night. One of the scariest things about Slenderman — and it was absolutely intended by his creator — is

In the photo above is a sign on a path in the forest asking people to reconsider suicide and to please think of their families. In the location over one hundred lives are lost every year, due to suicide. Both residents from Japan and tourist have been been flocking to the deep woods at the base of Mount Fuji to commit suicide for a many years. Deaths are so frequent that police are sent in on a regular basis to search for bodies with the help of volunteers. Of course land scared by so many deaths would be haunted. Making a Killing

…with “other things being equal, simpler explanations are generally better than more complex ones.” — Occam’s Razor Read the above statement on Occam’s Razor. This post is about the “docuseries” Making a Murderer, the Netflix “docuseries” that has a second season coming. This post is not about whether Steven Avery is guilty or innocent. It is not about whether there are injustices in our legal system. We know there are. This piece is about the cynicism behind making a piece of entertainment disguised as social crusading. I was inspired to write this after trying to make my point in a series of online tweets. There was backlash from people who made it about a social cause, and that I was ignoring the issues in our criminal justice system. My point was simple: Making a Murderer is not about the correction of our legal system or justice for a man wrongly accused. The series is about entertainment. Manipulation Set aside your

Christopher MacBride’s “The Conspiracy”

We all have that one person who is our go to paranoid conspiracy theorist… heck, maybe it is even you! Christopher MacBride’s “The Conspiracy” perfectly descends deeper and deeper into the world occupied by those who believe in certain paranoias, such as, 9/11 and The Illuminati. The film itself is marketed as a horror documentary, and is quite believable as they use actual conspiracy theories and multiple sources for their investigation, but it is important to remember it is complete fiction. I assure you, the two main actors Aaron Poole and James Gilbert are doing quite well. I enjoyed this film, although, being a conspiracy theorist myself, I started to wonder if “The Conspiracy” mocks people like me, because after all is it a MOCUMENTARY. It is shot extremely well and is quite an easy watch. While it focuses heavily on the dangers of secret societies, it will get you thinking about your freedom and rights you have (or have
