Movie Review: The Mothman Legacy (2020)

Serving as a sequel to 2017’s Mothman doc; The Mothman of Point Pleasant (which I reviewed right here), The Mothman Legacy continues filmmaker Seth Breedlove’s deep-dive into the wicked winged world of this creepy cryptid! After a quick recap of Mothman-related events that culminated in the collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant, West Virginia we delve back into the strange goings-on in that sleepy town and we learn that the lasting effects of the eerie encounters with that creepy creature still resonate throughout the town. Also present is evidence that the paranormal upheaval continues on, and has manifested in ways hitherto undocumented… even in regards to arguably the most famous figure in the entire affair, author John Keel, who’s 1975 novel, The Mothman Prophecies brought the events of Mothman’s reign of terror to the attention of the masses (and was turned into a film in 2002 starring Richard Gere). I’m not going to mince wicked words here; this

Witnesses Recount Encounters In ‘The Mothman Legacy’ Trailer

Small Town Monsters is back with The Mothman Legacy, their latest addition to their cryptid documentary series from Seth Breedlove. The new trailer gives audiences a glimpse into some of the dark, haunting landscapes captured around West Virginia, along with sound clips from witnesses interviewed for the new film. The final chapter in Breedlove’s Mothman trilogy, The Mothman Legacy tells the story of dozens of sightings of a folk legend of dubious origin, who allegedly continues to be seen throughout the area today. With a dozen eyewitness interviews, the film promises to offer some of the most intense and terrifying encounters ever recorded. “Many believe the Mothman to be a 1960’s phenomenon, an omen only appearing before tragedy, and disappearing after a flap of sightings and the subsequent Silver Bridge collapse in 1967. But what if there’s more? What if the origins of this omen trace back much further and go much deeper than anyone realized? And what if…the sightings

Movie Review: MOMO: The Missouri Monster (2019)

Blackburn’s Cryptid Casefiles, hosted by cryptid expert/author Lyle Blackburn, sets it’s sights on the events of the ol’ summer of ’72; when a hairy sumbitch bugged the shit outta the residents of Louisiana, Missouri. Locations are visited, the locals are chatted up… business as usual; but the real feather in the creepy cap is the presentation of clips from a rediscovered film on the subject from decades past. All of this blurs the line between fantasy and reality as Seth Breedlove and Small Town Monsters have changed up their basic straight-up documentary style format and have presented some elaborate re-enactments with the inclusion of the faux fright film footage (not to mention the addition of Blackburn rather than having Breedlove himself narrate the events) in the style of one of my fav flicks The Legend of Boggy Creek, and the end result is a ton of fearsome fun! As one would expect, the events presented in the “lost” film don’t

New Small Town Monsters Documentary Explores The Legend Of ‘Momo: The Missouri Monster’

A new “docu-drama” from indie film production company, Small Town Monsters, seeks to tell the true and truly strange story of the Missouri Monster. The hair-covered, three-toed monstrosity was said to have prowled the forests of “Star Hill” near Louisiana, Missouri during the summer of 1972 where it was seen by terrified citizens for weeks. The case gained national media attention during the ’70s and remains one of the largest tourist draws for the tiny town, which sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. The first trailer for the film debuts today and hints at the storytelling devices employed, as well as some of the fascinating interviews and locations. The latest release from Small Town Monsters and director, Seth Breedlove, is told in narrative and documentary form. The narrative sections appear under the guise of a lost b-movie from the 70s. The horror film depicts the widely believed details of the MOMO story (said to have been inspired by

Movie Review: Terror In The Skies (2019)

Following an absolutely gorgeous opening sequence set in 1948 where a young boy who dreams of being a pilot is confronted by a gigantic bird of prey he can scarcely believe, we begin our journey into the investigation of preternatural beings who have made their home in the skies over Illinois for decades in Terror in the Skies; the latest cryptid-focused documentary from Small Town Monsters and their resident demonic director (and writer too) Supernatural Seth Breedlove (okay…maybe he isn’t supernatural, but he sure does talk about the creepy side o’ life quite a bit. Don’t believe me? Check out my revoltin’ reviews of some of his past docs here, and here)! First up we learn the history of this monster-laden land; including chit-chat about the Thunderbirds (called the Piasa Bird in this region) that tormented the Native Americans indigenous to ancient Illinois, and supposedly resided in a deep cave littered with human bones (a cave that some dude in

Movie Review: The Flatwoods Monster: A Legacy of Fear is Creepy, Campfire Horror Story Cool!

Beginning as it does with an opening credits sequence that wouldn’t be out of place in any given ’50’s era alien invasion flick, The Flatwoods Monster: A Legacy of Fear spins a yarn jammed fat with flying saucers, putrid smelling monsters, and flesh melting fog…and the best part of it all is, this is believed by many to be a true story! The documentary begins by introducing us to the bucolic splendor of Braxton County West Virginia, and more supposedly the sleepy hamlet of Flatwoods…a town where you would likely find more tipped cows than space invaders (though West Virginia itself has been a hotbed of paranormal activity for ages, with the most prominent example being The Mothman), yet in 1952 the May family had an experience that blew that all to hell and back, as they witnessed a strange craft land and dispense an outre (perhaps mechanical) being that scared them shitless…as it would anyone. But the May family

Movie Review: Primal Rage is an Amazing Creature Feature you Need to See!

Ashley picks up her husband Max after his stint in the big House and begins a trek through the Pacific Northwest replete with yokel locals, disappointing sex, and a batch of missing persons that rumor has it were spirited away by what the natives call Oh-Mah…also known as Bigfoot to you and me. Soon the duo find themselves well and truly in the shit when they find themselves lost in the woods (after a series of incidents involving an outrageously mutilated man, a mysterious force hucking rocks at roughly the speed of light, and a wild n’ woolly trip down some rapids). As they trek ever on it becomes evident that something large and hairy is on their trail and before long the woods run red with blood! Let’s get the nuts and bolts out of the way before we get to the ghoulish gravy shall we? Primal Rage is one hell of a well made fright flick! The story

Movie Review: Sasq-watch is Worth Layin’ Your Eerie Eyeballs On!

Sasq-watch concerns the half-ass adventures of two brothers; Nigel and Oscar (played by Paul Brittain and Adam Herschman respectively), who have made it their mission in life to collect a huge bounty offered by the family of a deceased Bigfoot hunter before the reward is discontinued. After missing their scheduled guided tour, they hook up with a new guide named Sampson (Neil Flynn as your typical backwoods dude with little patience for idiots…which is unfortunate because he is swimming in them), and Jamie (Christine Bently), the sister of their dead LARPing frenemy who’s forced to go on the trip by her father for reasons. Oh, and don’t forget Claus (Tim Meadows), a rival Bigfoot hunter with a past with the brothers. Sasq-watch has a real charm about it (a phrase I may have never written in any review before…), and while it isn’t always completely over-the-top side splittingly high-larious (though admittedly it often is), it really aims to please, and
