Blu-ray Review: A Record of Sweet Murder (2014)

You know how sex and violence oft times collide in our beloved horror biz? Well, wait until you feast your putrid peepers on A Record of Sweet Murder… Sang-joon (Yeon Je-wook) is a murder machine on the lam for the kill krazy antics he has pulled all over town. Enter journalist So-yeon (Kim Kko-bbi) who takes it upon herself to interview that rascal, in truth a childhood chum who got stabby to right a wrong that has plagued the pair for a damn sight, along with her cameraman (played by Writer/Director Koji Shiraishi) in the loon’s claustrophobic, grungy-ass apartment in the hopes of gleaning a bit of knowledge as to the deadly goings-on. What does our heroine discover? Why that if Sang-joon kills all 27 poor souls on his shit list (he’s on 25 for the record) then all his victims, and the one he is trying to avenge, will magically rejoin the land of the living. Seems reasonable. Soon

DVD Review: The Punished (2018)

Wolfgang (Robert Amstler) is an Austrian mercenary murder machine; a real bad cat who you surely would not want to cross paths with. But as nasty a customer as he is, Wolfgang has an emotional side that comes to the fore as he befriends a sick orphan girl named Maria (Leia Perez) while convalescing in the hospital after receiving some war wounds during an assignment, and becomes the father figure in her life, as well as growing close to the comely local tour guide, Lisa (Nicole Stark), he hires to help plan good times for his pint-sized charge. Of course our “hero” continues carving folks a new asshole for those sweet greenbacks…but soon he must decide between his career and protecting the innocents that need him most. Brought to life by Writer/Director Rene Perez (of Death Kiss fame…which I reviewed right here), The Punished is another fun throwback to cinema the likes of which would fill the shelves in the

Movie Review: The Haunting of Sharon Tate (2019)

As The Haunting of Sharon Tate begins, the titular character (Hilary Duff) relates to an unseen interviewer that she has been having visions of her own demise…and we just know how this is going to go…because, you know, that shit actually happened…well, maybe not the visions…anyway… So long story short; Tate and her pals stylist Jay Sebring (Jonathan Bennett), coffee heiress Abigail Folger (Lydia Hearst), and European Lothario Wojciech Frykowski (Pawel Szajda)…but not Tate’s husband; world class pedo and philanderer Roman Polanski…take up residence at a rented home where they shoot the shit, play some occult board game (which looks totally rad as all fuck bee tee dubs), and get menaced superficially by some weirdos…well superficially at first, because we all know that Chuck Manson and the fam are going to be turning up the heat and the murder biz right quick! The bottom line with a flick like this is; just how tacky will the production be? I mean,

Blu-ray Review: The Vault (2017)

Leah (Francesca Eastwood), her sister Vee (Taryn Manning), their brother Michael (Scott Haze…who we interviewed right here), and a small crew decide to rob a bank to acquire half a mil to help Michael out with some vague bullshit in his life (something about owing the wrong people money). Being a bunch of disorganized, in-fighting, bad luck cases, they only find 70 large in the vault…but the bank’s assistant manager Ed (James Franco) assures them their is an older vault hidden beneath the bank that contains a small fortune. Once down there, things take a decidedly supernatural turn as our anti-heroes are menaced by a preternatural figure that is out for revenge for a robbery that was botched decades earlier! Ever since Rodriguez and Tarantino worked their magic back in ’96 with From Dusk Till Dawn, folks have been trying to mix and match their crime pictures with the horror biz to varying degrees of success. So how does The

Blu-ray Review: Purgatory Road (2017)

Man-oh-man, did Vincent Kirby (Michael Lebeau) ever make one hell of a shitty decision as a child. You see, ol’ V-man did nothing to stop a female thief from stealing his Dad’s cash, which had the adverse effect of making his Pa do the whole suicide bag. This lead Vincent to become a Catholic priest operating his “ministry” put of a piece of crap van in the rural south along with his brother Michael (Jacob Craig). Of course Father Vincent provides the service of taking Confession, and he pardons every sin…except stealing; anyone who admits to that wrong doing finds themselves in Deadsville courtesy of the rage of that petulant padre! Things go just peachy until a real psycho killer (must resist…Qu’est-ce que c’est…oh damn it) named Mary Francis (Trista Robinson) enters Vincent and Jacob’s lives. She of course digs their whole murder biz, but things soon become frayed between the brothers with Mary’s presence on the scene! Director Mark

Movie Review: The Amityville Murders (2018)

Man, Ronnie Jr. “Butch” DeFeo (John Robinson) has got it tough. His abusive ape of a father (Paul Ben-Victor) treats him like a punching bag (due in no small part to his draft dodging, pot smoking ways)…when he isn’t up to Mob biz that is, his dabbling into the supernatural has left him susceptible to arcane evil from the depths of hell, his girlfriend is on his ass every second (she kinda has a point as Butch chucks her ass out of a car into a huge mud puddle after a mid-blowie, hallucinogenic incest based freak-out…you know, a Tuesday for you boils n’ ghouls no doubt), oh…and there’s a rock solid chance this cat is a full-on lunatic. Before long the paranormal and psychosis begin to take their toll and Butch will be pushed beyond his limits! There’s a lot to dig about The Amityville Murders in my not so humble opinion. For starters, Robinson and Ben-Victor absolutely nail their

Blu-ray Review: Jack the Ripper (1959)

Scotland Yard Inspector O’Neill (Eddie Byrne) is hella pissed due in no small part to his department’s stunning failure in clappin’ some irons on ol’ Saucy Jack (Jack the Ripper to you boils n’ ghouls). To help solve the case O’Neill calls for his old chum, New York City Detective Sam Lowry (Lee Patterson, sporting a 1950’s pompadour that must have been all the rage in 1888). Soon the Dublin Dynamo and…Sam…are balls deep in red herrings and sinister suspects, all of whom could potentially be the horrific hooker hacker. While this is going on, our man Sam gets a case of the hornies for Anne Ford (Betty McDowall), the ward of tight-ass A-number one…namely Dr. Tranter (John Le Mesurier), which goes over with the good Doctor like a rather large turd in a perfectly good punch bowl. Anyway, will our heroes save the day and discover who is behind the murder biz, or will Jack slip silently into the

NBC Adapting 1999’s ‘Bone Collector’ For New Series

One of the best serial killer films to come out of the late 90’s was Philip Noyce’s thriller The Bone Collector, starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie, based on the novel by Jeffrey Deaver. After nearly two decades, the film is getting a series adaptation from NBC, according to The Wrap. The film follows retired forensic criminologist genius Lincoln Rhyme who was left paralyzed after an on the job accident. When a case brings him back into the fold, Rhyme partners with Amelia Sachs, an ambitious young cop, in order to take down a serial killer. Universal Television and Sony Pictures have teamed up with Keshet Studios for the series. Below you will find the trailer for the 1999 original film which is now streaming on Hulu. If you haven’t seen The Bone Collector, I recommend that you do so immediately.

Movie Review: [Cargo] (2018)

Anthony Peterson (Ron Thompson) is in a bit of a fuckin’ pickle. See, ol’ Tony-baloney has got his ass kidnapped and locked inside a cargo container located in parts unknown, with only his cellphone to keep him company. Good thing he has that device, as soon he is contacted by his captors and ordered to come up with ten million dollars in twenty-four hours or those vile bastards will rape and murder his wife, live on the ol’ wicked web, as restitution for atrocities that Anthony allegedly committed in the name of business. Along with the stress of getting the cash, our hero’s oxygen is running low, and the entire container can be set to deliver electric shocks. Of course things grow ever more dire, and we get to see just what length’s Anthony will go to in order to secure his freedom and his wife’s safety. Writer/Director James Dylan has come up with one hell of an effective and

Movie Review: Dark Punch (2018)

Darren (Joe Mayes) is fucked up six ways to Sunday. He’s the type of guy that gets his kicks violently brutalizing (as opposed to the less common passive brutalization) rando folks and stealin’ their shit…you know, a real lovable feller. Anyway, such is life for the d-man until one day he is offered a choice that could change his life and set him on a new path. Will he fuck up this choice? i’m not gonna say…but, this is Darren we are speaking of… Filmed in stark black and white, Dark Punch is an exceptionally grim and gritty journey down the path of a man with severe mental issues just lashing out at the world as he sees fit with zero regard for anyone. the world presented by Writer/Director Nadim Tebyanian is a cold and cruel one, both in actions and locations…and speaking of the latter, the wooded areas, train tracks and country roads all co-mingle and present the viewer
