Everyone has been flappin’ their lascivious lips about what a great dive into the ol’ (decidedly comedic) horror biz Psycho Goreman is, so I had to set my eerie eyeballs upon it and give it the once over as only yours cruelly can… for better or for worse, your mileage may vary! After assing around in the backyard, siblings Mimi (Nita-Josee Hanna) and Luke (Owen Myre) unearth a strange jewel that is, in fact, a control module for an intergalactic murder machine (also buried in the backyard). That’s when the ultimate evil in the galaxy, newly christened Psycho Goreman (Matthew Ninaber with vocal duties provided by Steven Vlahos), falls under the control of a bossy weirdo girl from the ‘burbs. What follows is a wicked whirlwind of insanely over-the-top violent mayhem as ‘ol PG has to deal with both the children that are making his life a living hell, as well as every intergalactic shit-kicker that beams down to terra

Exploding from the Everglades of Florida comes William Grefé; a dude that has directed an impressive array of schlock… but alas schlock I’ve never set my eerie eyeballs on. That’s something I aim to fix right quick… and what better way to do it than with the new Blu-ray collection from Arrow Video (along with MVD Entertainment); He Came from the Swamp: The William Grefé Collection! Disc one begins with the creature feature Sting of Death (1966), and what a doozy this putrid picture is my cats n’ creeps! College gal Karen (Valerie Hawkins) spends her vacay visiting her marine biologist father (Jack Nagle, who possesses a seemingly magic headwound that grows and shrinks throughout the picture) in his remote island laboratory cum home deep in the Florida Everglades, along with her cadre of comely female friends. Everything is absolutely keen as beers are downed and everyone gets their collective rocks off doing the hot new dance craze “The Jellyfish”,

Valentine McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are two shit-kickin’ handymen kickin’ shit around the near non-existent desert town of Perfection. But all doesn’t stay broken fences and tumbleweeds for our heroes, as soon they are up to their asses in missing people, of which the town truly doesn’t have any to spare! The boys soon find out the culprit behind it all… the totally reasonable answer of giant mutant earthworms (nicknamed Graboids), as one would have surely guessed. Now it’s up to them, along with graduate geology student Rhonda LeBeck (Finn Carter) and survivalists Burt and Heather Gummer (Family Ties‘ Michael Gross and country-crooner/sit-com star Reba McEntire respectively) to save P-town and end that wicked worm menace once and for fuckin’ all! With it’s desert setting and ‘nature gone amok’ antagonists, you may make the assumption that the creators of Tremors may have been channeling the fright flick drive-in fare of the 1950’s when creating this putrid

In a story ripped from today’s headlines, a gaggle of folks turn up missing in the dense woods surrounding a small mountain town which ends up being the fault of a dragon. To combat this rather large pain-in-the-ass, the town’s mayor calls in an elite military squad who proceed to trek into those wicked woods and hopefully put an end to all of this legendary creature bullshit. So, these folks walk around, gettin’ their Predator on, while also dealing with a headstrong forest ranger (Arielle Brachfeld) and a death cult that worships the titular beastie. They also fight the dragon… eventually. With that synopsis you can guess what you are in for with Dragon Soldiers… and if you can’t I’ll tell ya! This is a well done, low-budget creature feature that knows damn well it’s Predator with Dragons and it doesn’t give a singular fuck… and you just know that everyone in front of and behind the camera was having

One unexpected side effect of writing fright flicks for scads of years, and actually working in the horror biz, is that sometimes I’m called on to review something only to discover that folks are involved that I’ve worked with in one capacity or another. I always try and throw a disclaimer of some sort on those types of things, but honestly it’s becoming a lil’ too frequent, so soon I’ll begin to severely limit these types of reviews just to keep things square. To that end let me state, my reviews are always honest and upfront; but my scale of quality truly is unique. Let’s do a numbered list type of thing where I walk you through this shit… Yes, everything I review is sent to me for free in exchange for my honest thoughts. Yes, my thoughts are given with 100% honesty… but know this; I LOVE ultra-low budget horror (and exploitation), and if I feel something was made

This December director Alessio Liguori‘s pulse-pounding creature feature Shortcut is getting its home release just in time for Christmas. Shortcut follows a group of classmates who find themselves trapped inside their school bus after a mysterious creature invades the road. Every passing minute decreases their survival chances against the constant threats of that unknown entity. Written by Daniele Cosci, Shortcut stars Jack Kane, Andrei Claude, Zak Sutcliffe, Sophie Jane Oliver, and Terence Anderson and was produced by Simona Ferri, Marco Tempera, and Robert Cipullo. Already out in theaters, Shortcut, which we called “impressive” in our review, will arrive on VOD and Digital on December 22, 2020.

After 37 years in the making Grizzly II: Revenge is finally about to be released on January 8, 2021. Grizzly II, directed by André Szöts, is the sequel to William Girdler‘s 1976 movie Grizzly. The movie follows a bear out for revenge after a hunter kills its cub. During its rampage a huge concert is taking place, I’m sure you know the rest. George Clooney, Laura Dern, Charlie Sheen are featured in the original footage with Louise Fletcher, John Rhys-Davies, and Steve Inwood also starring, but the three main stars advertised are only in the film for around five minutes. I am trying to put this politely, but this movie is a mess. The scenes a patched together in what may very well be the roughest and sloppiest way I’ve ever seen. It’s a perfect example of what happens when editing goes wrong. It looks like it was just thrown together. There’s no transition from scene to scene, the music

Grizzly II: Revenge, the sequel to William Girdler‘s 1976 movie Grizzly will be arriving next month, 37 years after it was filmed. Directed by André Szöts and written by David Shaldon and Joan McCall, Grizzly II‘s all-star cast includes George Clooney, Laura Dern, Charlie Sheen, Louise Fletcher, John Rhys-Davies, and Steve Inwood. In the sequel, “all hell breaks loose when a 15-ft grizzly bear, reacting to the slaughter of her cub by poachers, seeks revenge and kills anyone that gets in her way. In the 3 days before the major concert, the gigantic grizzly has brutally attacked campers, a poacher, and a park ranger. The terror doesn’t end there as the giant grizzly bear finds its way to the concert grounds to go on a killing spree.” Grizzly II is one of those true, diamond-in-the-rough projects. It is a gem unearthed from a different moment in film history and we could not be more excited to be part of its

Lake Michigan Monster concerns the adventures of Captain Seafield (Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, who also co-wrote/directed the picture); a man obsessed with the monster he believes killed his father in the shallow depths of Lake Michigan… though the details of said event are rather mutable in our hero’s constantly shifting narrative. Anyhow, that slap-happy seaman assembles a crack team to find and dispatch the beast… a team who’s ranks include: sonar expert Nedge Pepsi (Beulah Peters), weapons master Sean Shaughnessy (Erick West), and former N.A.V.Y. (Nautical Athletes and Venture Yunit) man Dick Flynn (Daniel Long). Of course Seafield is pretty much a complete moron, and his epic plans, which feature such grandiose titles as ‘Operation Master Baiters’ and ‘Operation Naughty Lady’, are pretty much a complete bust from the get-go; but still he soldiers on no matter how many monsters and madmen (besides himself) stand in his way! Lake Michigan Monster is an insane love letter to late ’50s/early ’60s

After a brief intro from horror hostess Malovia: The Queen of Screams, we jump right into a dinosaur getting knocked over by an explosion, followed by an in-depth conversation on snack foods. I think it’s safe to say we are off to the races here boils n’ ghouls… So yeah; a T-rex is ripping a city a new asshole, and the military are surprisingly helpless against it… I mean I get it; how much experience could they possibly have with such things… anyway, that T-rex? The mother fucker is riddled with full blown ebola, so if you thought this thing was a menace before, you better look the fuck out now bud! This is straight up silly ridiculousness and I really fucking enjoyed it.
