Short Film Review: Bathroom Troll (2018)

Look obsessed bitches on wheels give our meek androgynous heroine Cassie (Bianca Sanchez) a veritable shit ton of static in the Girl’s Room because she doesn’t fit their idea of how a female should look. Back at home, Cassie’s occultist mother hears her daughter’s story and decides to venture to an unholy landmark and attempt to call up a troll to get even with those who wronged Cassie. Unbelievably (or maybe believably since this is a fright flick) this works, and those girls are in for a world of ass beatings…but Cassie is none to comfortable with the vengeance handed out. Can she stop the troll before things go too far? The biggest plus Bathroom Troll has going for it is Sanchez in the role of Cassie (but make no mistake, everyone involved plays their roles to the hilt)…she’s such a fragile, emotional mess that you can’t help but root for her in the terrible situations she finds herself in,

Movie Review: The Tooth Fairy (2018)

As family and friends gather on a failing rural farm, we learn that years previous they managed to capture an evil witch (the Tooth Fairy…I don’t even fucking know), and imprison her in the barn by way of sugar and dangling candy canes (sounds ridiculous, and it is…but you lot all know I dig on the absurd, so well played movie…well played). Well that seemingly fool proof prison is thwarted when a drifter simply opens the door and frees the wicked bitch of the west (after she chisels some of his teeth out of course). This results in her stalking and granting dark wishes (in exchange for teeth ‘natch) to the sad sack family…now, can they dispatch her once more and get on with their dreary lives? First the positives to be had with the Tooth Fairy. For starters, the dreary setting (always overcast and completely remote) is full atmosphere and a suitable aesthetic choice for the tale of a

Blu-ray Review: Godmonster of Indian Flats (1973)

After a whole mess of sheep, a cowboy (sheepboy?!!) in a furry vest playing the one armed bandit, rando joyriding, and four music changes (a heavenly chorus. some synthy fart noises, a brassy upbeat number, and some sort of stock score music) we get down to the real business with Godmonster of Indian Flats…namely that this film is batshit insane and possibly the product of a certified schizophrenic (or a director desperately trying to meet their run time…not a lot of difference really). Following all that we get a banjo band with a beatnik playing in a traditional old west saloon (like straight out of a John Wayne movie costumes and all)…and we finally get going on the story to this picture; namely that dude mentioned previous finds one hella fucked up newborn lamb (after he experiences a psychotronic freak out)…a find that is whisked away to the lab of scientific manly-man Dr. Clemens (E. Kerrigan Prescott…Christ, they just should

Blu-ray Review: Abominable (2006)

Preston Rogers (Matt McCoy), a wheelchair bound man recovering from a severe mountain climbing accident that took the life of his wife, takes his doctor’s advice and heads to a remote cabin in the wilderness near where the tragedy occurred to face his fears and heal in the peace and quite with his prize winning dick of a nurse, Otis (Christien Tinsley) in tow. Of course in exactly one p.h. after he arrives, a group of garrulous beauties takes up residence in the cabin next door…one of which our hero believes was abducted by a Bigfoot-like creature (a rational assumption) after spying on them with binoculars, though of course Otis thinks he’s insane. Well turns out P-man was correct-a-mundo as ‘Squatch is indeed on a kill-crazy rampage, and soon everyone within those wicked woods is fodder for the beast’s deadly desires…and surviving the night will become a near insurmountable challenge! Filled with absolutely tons of effective suspense, a gorgeous monster

Legendary Adapting Dystopian Comic ‘Animosity’ For Feature Film

Have you ever considered what would happen if animals rose up against man? Maybe this will things in perspective, there are around 7.2 billion humans walking the earth, but that number is dwarfed by the volume of creatures that live in our world, an estimated 20,000,121,091,000,000,000. Legendary Entertainment has acquired the film rights to adapt AfterShock’s comic book series Animosity, written by Marguerite Bennett and illustrated by Rafael de Latorre. Blu-ray Review: Shocking Dark (1989)

In Venice, after the amazing future year 2000, a toxic cloud hangs low killing all life. To make matters worse, there are hideous mutant creatures stalking the tunnels below the city…and they are turning people into monsters! In a totally original, completely unique bit of storytelling, a group of badass marines, a civilian woman (a scientist by trade), and a company man from the Tubular Corporation (a division of Radical Incorporated and Fuckin’ Awesome LLC) are sent in to investigate the infestation. What follows is Aliens…except for the ending, which inexplicably rips-off something else that you won’t believe! I’m going to go on the record here and state I don’t give a flying fuck how much director Bruno Mattei and Screen Writers Claudio Fragasso and Rossella Drudi stole from Cameron’s masterpiece; Shocking Dark is one hell of an entertaining fright flick in it’s own right, due mainly from a game performance from the legendary Geretta Geretta, fun creature suits, amazingly

‘It Came From The Desert’ And It’s Headed To Your House This May

Back in 1989, Cinemaware released a game called It Came from the Desert, inspired by the 1950’s creatures features. Now, the game’s film adaptation is gearing up for its release next week from Roger! Pictures. You think ants at a picnic is bad, imagine giant mutated ants wreaking havoc in the desert. That’s exactly what this flick is about. “This pulpy, action monster movie is a nostalgic tribute to creature features from the 1950’s; it features rival motocross heroes and heroines, kegger parties in the desert, secret underground military bases, romantic insecurities…and of course, giant ants!” Directed by Marko Mäkilaakso (interview), who told us the film was also influenced by Eight Legged Freaks, It Came from the Desert was co-written by Hank Woon (Age of Dinosaurs) and Trent Haaga (68 Kill), and stars Vanessa Grasse, Mark Arnold, Harry Lister Smith, Claudia Trujillo, Alex Mills, and Aino Sirje. Roger!’s Teemu Virta and Alliance Media Partners (AMP) produced the film with the

Movie Review: Island Zero (2017)

Something is seriously wrong up in Maine; namely a small fishing island has become isolated A.F. thanks to the one ferry on or off the island disappearing. To make matters worse, the phone lines are dead, all boats to the mainland fail to return, and the entire place is under a power blackout. As food supplies dwindle and anxiety levels rise, folks start turning up mutilated and the island finds itself at the mercy of a monster from the deep! Beautifully shot on location, with plenty of steel-grey skies and rain to add to the dreary ambiance, Island Zero certainly looks the part of atmospheric creature feature! Adding to the strength of the picture are rock solid acting, a nice slow burn story line fraught with mounting tension (and a nice layer of mythology) as the isolation begins playing on an ever more desperate populace…and the human remains start popping up, and moments of well realized, practical gore. Sounds great,

Movie Review: The Jurassic Games (2018)

Sometimes I can’t even believe the things I have to type for this column…like this for instance: In the future, death row convicts are forced to compete in a virtual reality game show called The Jurassic Games, where they have to fight dinosaurs to win their freedom…so, this is The Running Man with dinosaurs…this may actually be genius (I mean someone is eaten by a T-rex before even five minutes have passed, so that is a good sign). Alliances and rivalries are formed among the convicts, dinosaurs eat people, and even more story elements are lifted wholesale from the Schwarzenegger classic (including corruption behind the scenes of the games, the “hero” convict being wrongfully accused, merch of the show being advertised during the broadcast…and on and on). Look, no one is ever going to say The Jurassic Games is original (and if they do they may need serious psychiatric help), but I’ll be damned if the film isn’t entertaining. It’s
