Today, we have the trailer and preview of Chapter One for Acursian, a thrilling, imaginative comic series starring John Barrowman (“Doctor Who,” “Torchwood,” “Arrow”), from Legendary, the same company behind Godzilla: Rise of the Monsters coming in May of 2019. Rooted in Celtic lore, the series is a fusion of mythical storytelling from co-creators John Barrowman, Carole Barrowman (“Torchwood”), and Erika Lewis (Game of Shadows and Firebrand: The Initiation of Natali Presano) the comic series now available on the Webtoon app. “Acursian (an Old English word defined as one consigned to destruction, misery, or evil by a curse) stars John Barrowman as Charlie Stewart who, on the eve of an important birthday, falls victim to an ancient Celtic curse. The Webtoon ‘Melvina’s Therapy’ Is Just What The Doctor Ordered

Webtoons.com is a fun site where comic authors can showcase their works to readers. I’ve been a reader on the site for a while and have found some really nice comics that tend to be the “slice of life” comedic variety but recently I’ve discovered a darker comic that I could not stop reading as soon as I started, Melvina’s Therapy by A. Rasen. The Webtoon is about a Psychiatrist name Melvina who helps her clients unlock their deepest emotional trauma to “help” them; yes I used quotations there because in truth she’s using her patients to achieve a nefarious goal of using their torment as nourishment for herself. The overall plot is dark and mysterious with each chapter having their own twisted plot. The stories remind me of some of the really good horror manga’s I’ve read in the past. The art is fantastic and what I really love about this comic is the attention to detail. A. Rasen

New Comic “Morte” Drops Later This Month

Ever feel like no-one else can understand you? Well, if you’re the protagonist of “Morte”, that’d be because all your neighbors are hungry dead. With only one single word of dialogue, “Morte” tells the silent story of one man’s journey through the zombie infested remains of the world. The last living human, there’s nothing left to save, nothing to fight for; just base survival. Morte can be purchased for $4.00 digital, with a print release to come out at this year’s Day of the Dead convention. I know I’ll be picking one up.

There’s A New Comic Coming And It May Be The Most Twisted Book You’ve Ever Seen

There’s a new five-part comic series on its way for horror fans who love the sick and twisted. According to the Kickstarter campaign: A labor of love, Whorehouse of Horror covers the entire anals, er, annals (no poon, er, pun, intended) of modern horror, from the classic “TALES FROM THE CRYPT” comics of the 1950s to the current “AMERICAN HORROR STORY” series of today. Add to that the best elements of Porn History, from your Dad’s vintage (and sticky) “PENTHOUSE” collection to your well-worn blu-ray of “TWO GIRLS, ONE CUP”, and you’ve got quite the package. “Tales From The Whorehouse of Horror” is the first in a new genre of entertainment; WHORROR (Whore+Horror=Whorror). Attention comic geeks and metal heads: Dark Horse is teaming up with Slayer for a new comic, ‘Slayer: Repentless’. The first issue set to land on shelves on January 25, 2017. Want more great news? ‘Metalocalypse’ writer Jon Schnepp and ‘Twilight Zone’ artist Guiu Vilanoa are both involved in the 3-part mini-series. Eiser Award-winner Glenn Fabry is handling the comics’ covers. It’s been my honor to chronicle the bloody road trip that is the Slayer comic series from Dark Horse/Nuclear Blast,” said Jon Schnepp. “Using the band’s music and lyrics from their three decades of albums, while crossing over and through the Repentless music videos by BJ McDonnell, I have woven a tale of betrayal, hate, perspective, loyalty, family, and murder that will need to be experienced through the comic books’ pages.” The story centers on a “raging road trip down a bloodstained highway, a tale of the doomed and damned.” According to the Dark Horse website the comic falls

Robert Altman & Popeye vs. Cynema

To Clear A Few Things Up A few myths need to be dispelled about the 1980 Robin Williams film, Popeye. It was NOT a boxoffice failure. It was made for 20 million and grossed well over 60 million. While deemed a “disappointment” by Paramount Pictures, it hardly failed. 2. It is NOT Robin Williams’s worst film. I will argue it is his best, hands down. Like Williams and its director, the film paid a price for breaking away from formula. Popeye is fucking art, so there, I said it. Popeye fought Cynema and lost the first few battles, but I think it won the war. It was Robin Williams’s first film, and almost his last. It’s been called a mess, incomprehensible, a misfire, a disaster and a bomb. Bear with me as I show how this unique film stands up against Cynema. I’ll also lay out how this film reflects the present attitudes between industry and audience. Years after I

Martillo: Devil-Smiter by Greg Meldrum and David Broughton

Martillo: Devil-Smiter by Greg Meldrum and David Broughton is an independent comic by one of the creators of Spectre Show, which I reviewed a few weeks back. This story, while ripe with all the edgy artwork David Broughton typically brings to the table, is instead about 1950s Spain. A man stands between humanity and supernatural wickedness. …and Pablo Picasso, apparently. (I was as bewildered as you when I first read that, I promise.) Since I enjoyed Spectre Show, I definitely wanted to give Martillo a chance. Book Description: It is 1948, and General Franco’s fascist government rules Spain with an iron fist. Isolated from the rest of Europe, the country has become a breeding ground for supernatural wickedness – and that’s where Martillo comes in. A servant of the Saint of Labourers, Martillo wields a hammer and smites evil – HARD! In this collection, Martillo takes on pagan storm-gods, metal-obsessed spectres, sadistic thorn-monsters, gold-eating devil-weasels, hungry bogeymen and Pablo Picasso!
