Movie Review: ‘Two Heads Creek’ Is Horror Comedy Done Right

When I sat down to watch writer-director Jesse O’Brien’s Two Heads Creek I didn’t know what to really expect. The sad truth is that horror-comedies rarely live up to expectations or their PR campaigns. However, Two Heads Creek is a rare exception. The UK/Aussie film is about a brother and sister who discover that they were adopted after their mother’s death. It was no surprise that they set out to find the mother who gave them up. What they don’t know is how just how twisted their family really is. Two Heads Creek is a mix of blood-drenched action and dark humor. It’s wickedly funny and delightfully demented. This fun flick is a bit campy from beginning to end but in the best possible way! Looking for blood and gore? Two Heads Creek has it, my god does it ever! Jordan Waller and Kathryn Wilder star as the siblings who head to a tiny outback town looking for dear old

Movie Review: Exorcism at 60,000 Feet (2019)

Father Romero (Robert Miano) is a priest with a knack for performing lead-based exorcisms, in that he blows holes in the possessed with his pistol. After one such incident, our petulant padre hops on a plane (piloted by the legendary Lance Henriksen as Captain Houdee) headed down Vietnam way. Well, it turns out that our hero could have boarded a rocket to the sun and it wouldn’t have stopped evil from taggin’ along for the revoltin’ ride, as soon lightning strikes and folks are becoming all possessed-like six ways to Sunday! It’s tight quarters for a battle with unspeakable evil, so how many of those passengers will stick the landing is forever in doubt! Now look, this isn’t Airplane! by any means, but Exorcism at 60,000 Feet has plenty of fun to offer while treading similar ground. This is a send up of ’70s disaster movies, and possession flicks (also a huge part of ’70s genre cinema), and the end

Watch The Opening Scene From ‘Why Don’t You Just Die!’

The coronavirus pandemic prevented the April 10th theatrical release of Why Don’t You Just Die! But never fear, Arrow Video has just given the film a home release date. That’s not all, we’ve also got the first scene to share with you. Making his feature debut, writer-director Kirill Sokolov presents a rousing tale of family, modern relationships and the dark places they can take you to when things turn sour. In the film, “Matvey (Aleksandr Kuznetsov) has just one objective: to gain entry to his girlfriend’s parents’ apartment and kill her father Andrey (Vitaliy Khaev) with a hammer to restore her honor. But all is not as it initially seems, and Matvey’s attempts to bludgeon the family patriarch to death don’t quite go to plan as Andrey proves a more formidable – not to mention ruthless – opponent than he anticipated… and Matvey, for his part, proves stubbornly unwilling to die.” Despite our exaggerated use of genre tropes and all

Movie Review: Kill Ben Lyk (2018)

All across jolly ol’ London-towne a masked bloke is offing people named Ben Lyk. this causes a ton of static for Ben Lyk (Eugene Simon), a wannabe social media gadfly who is a likable, if not very entertaining to watch, online presence. Soon, our hero finds himself in a safe-house, along with an ass-load of other Ben Lyks (of which there are a surprising number of) as the constabulary have gotten wise to the Lyk related homicides and rounded-up all potential victims. That of course is a right shit idea, and soon our Terminator stand in makes the scene, and our main man Ben is balls deep in trouble as he tries to deduce just why these Ben Lyk eliminations are going down in the first place! Running a scant 77 minutes, Kill Ben Lyk is consistently funny, suspenseful, and at times completely pitch black. It’s also rather timely as one of the Ben Lyk’s is a male-to-female transitioned former

Blu-ray Review: The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak (1984)

Gwendoline (Tawny Kitaen) ships herself to China in a wooden box, and is immediately kidnapped upon her arrival to the Far East. Thankfully for her, rough and tumble sailin’ man Willard (Brent Huff) comes to her rescue and takes up the task of helping our heroine locate the butterfly her butterfly (that’s a lot of “butterfly” in one sentence… oh, shit… ) collector father went missing in the mythic land of the Yik Yak trying to find… for a fee of course. Along the way our erstwhile heroes must contend with river pirates, cannibals, poisonous clouds, and a tribe of Amazons that live in a hi-tech mine deep below the Earth… a serious ordeal all for a simple butterfly! Want to know something that exemplifies the surreal nature of The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak? The film has an easy-listenin’ synth score (totally inappropriate given it’s early 1930’s setting) that plays no matter the sitch…

DVD Review: Doll Factory (2014)

A gaggle of goofs exit stage left from a stale Halloween party and decide to try to conjure ghosts via reading passages from an ancient tome at ye olde abandoned doll factory (home to a battle with a host of rather surly killer baby dolls years previous). As you can guess that shit works gangbusters and soon our young heroes are getting ripped new assholes by the pint-sized, petulant puppets (okay they are dolls as previously stated, but fuck it)… and before long the entire town may fall into the creepy clutches of evil! After a strong cold open, Doll Factory almost lost me with an overlong party sequence that was on the boring as balls side; but man did it gain my attention back right quick! You see, this fright flick is a comedy at heart, and it is actually funny… go figure. The cast (my favorite of the bunch being Boo Gay as Darius; the dude that battled

Movie Review: Nekrotronic (2019)

From the dawn of time, a cadre of Nekromancers has battled legions of demons for the fate of the world. As it is the age of smart phones being perma-glued to people’s hands (though as you will see, this film gives zero-fucks about presenting anything as lofty as social commentary); the Queen of the Underworld (the always jaw-dropping Monica Bellucci) is developing an app that will allow those dastardly demons to wage cyber warfare on an unsuspecting mankind who think the app is a simple ghost finding program, rather than a means of swipin’ their very souls. This brings us to dopey sanitation worker named Howard (Ben O’Toole) and his equally clueless best friend (Epine Bob Savea). You see Howard’s legacy is to become the ultimate Nekromancer and he is tasked with ending that arcane app and the Queens machinations for good. Our world is pretty much fucked. Coming from Co-Writer (along with Tristan Roache-Turner)/Director Kiah Roache-Turner (who previously brought

Blu-Ray Review: Weird Science (1985)

Uber-nerds Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) are left to their own devices one fateful Friday, and after viewing Frankenstein on TV get the shit-hot idea to create their own woman to end their lonely ways like a couple of less drunk (for the moment)/more horny Colin Clives. Utilizing improbable computer simulations, an unauthorized entrance to top-secret government programs, scanned girlie magazines, footage of Diamond David Lee Roth, and a half-assed magic ceremony our heroes succeed, and the girl of their dreams, Lisa (Kelly LeBrock), arrives on the scene from the hot pink ether. With Lisa’s magic and sex appeal the boys get lessons in life and a new-found popularity, but will it be enough to help them obtain real girlfriends and keep them out of the ham-fisted abusive clutches of Wyatt’s psychotic older brother Chet (a scene stealing Bill Paxton)…not to mention survive the party of the century Lisa throws in their honor (which comes complete with

‘Destroy All Humans!’ Is Coming Back!

Everyone’s favorite sarcastic alien invader from the 2000s is back! No not Zim, Crypto 137! THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games have announced today the remake of the comedic alien invasion game Destroy All Humans! If you never heard of the game, you really missed out! Destroy All Humans! parodies everything we love about 1950’s B-movie alien invasion flicks. Players take on the role of a lone invader named Crypto 137 as he is sent to Earth to collect DNA while at the same time, causing chaotic destruction! Some aspects of the game will be changing, Crypto will now be able to use both his weapons and psychic skills at the same time, as well as his flying combat abilities. There will be a new “Psychokinesis” which is being described as the love child of “A Jedi and Goat Simulator”. The game will also include the restored, much-rumored, never before seen: Lost Mission of Area 42! Destroy All Humans! will

Movie Review: Abnormal Attraction (2018)

In a universe where fantasy characters and humans co-exist, people obsessed with the crazy creatures around them attend AA (Abnormal Attraction) meetings, lead by Dr. Stanley Cole (Bruce Davison) to work through their “feelings”. As the internet has demonstrated time after terrible time, people can get their horny on over the weirdest things…and the world of ol’ AA is no exception as we get tales of frisky folks enamored with a leprechaun, a zombie, the tooth fairy, bigfoot and many, many more (shudder)… Thankfully most of the jokes in Abnormal Attraction are gloriously offensive and hit their mark (and they damn well better seeing as how this is a comedy and all), but to write this off as just some dopey comedy (which it certainly is) with nothing going on between it’s ears would do this picture a disservice. You see, along with all of the nutty nonsense we get a rather poignant look at a world we should try
