Terror Films Announces Digital Debut Of Indie Horror ‘Close Calls’

Terror Films has acquired the rights to writer-director Richard Stringham‘s indie horror Close Calls and set a January release date. The film centers on a troubled teen girl (Morgan) who is forced to stay home and tend to her crazy grandma after being grounded by her father. But when daddy leaves for a dinner date, Morgan’s paranoia heightens as she starts receiving several disturbing phone calls while dealing with grandma. Between all the phone calls, the drugs she has taken, and surprise visits from some unexpected guests, Morgan now thinks everyone around her is out to kill her. And to make matters worse . . . she keeps forgetting to give grandma her meds. The cast includes Jordan Phipps, Greg Fallon, Carmen Patterson, Kristof Waltermire, Janis Duley, and Star McCann. Stringham, promises to horror fans that “Close Calls” will not just be another ’70s/’80s throwback film (which it is), but a film that hopefully delivers a refreshing, stylish take on

Movie Review: Close Calls Takes Familiar Terror Tropes to Surreal Places!

Morgan is your typical, everyday teenager…all ‘tude and ’80’s slang (as the kids today do?). Anyway, Morgan gives her father the ol’ wise ass ass wise one too many and finds herself grounded…and forced to stay at home with her nuttier than a god damn fruitcake grandmother (who continuously spews blood and lives in what could best be described as a freakin’ haunted attraction in the attic) while her father goes out on a date. To deal with this bummer turn of events, Morgan does a shit ton of drugs and eats pizza in her underwear (a typical Tuesday for some of you creeps, except she actually looks attractive doing it). Soon Morgan is plagued by a series of bizarre obscene phone calls, strange psychotic episodes featuring her dead mother, and the demands of nutty Nana…not to mention an outre, psychotic stranger named Barry that appears on our heroine’s door step (with a supposed tie to her Father) who ups

The Oddience Of Genre Sinema

By: Richard Stringham the founder & CEO of S & Drive Cinema, an independent production company out of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Stringham is also the producer, writer, and director of ‘Close Calls‘, his horror feature debut. “To avoid fainting, keep repeating: It’s only a movie… only a movie… only a movie… only a movie.” What happened to brilliant ad campaigns like this? And what the hell happened to the films that used to induce this sort of madness? In the late ’60s throughout the ’70s, filmmakers used to express their anguish, anxieties, concerns and distrust associated with the government, societal progression, and the American dream. It was fiction, but nevertheless it reflected harsh realities and a darker side of humanity. And more importantly, it upset the status quo. I feel like the political climate we’re in now is a perfect time for brave and daring artists to do something innovative and subversive with their freedom of expression. But with
