Rob Zombie, who brought us The Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, and 3 From Hell, is back with his latest project, a new movie based on the iconic series “The Munsters,” from Universal Pictures. It’s not a huge shock, after all, Zombie has made it clear over the years that he’s a big fan of the series. His wife Sheri Moon Zombie has been cast in the lead role as Lily Minster. She’s always the lead in his movies. Jeff Daniel Phillips, who is also a Zombie movie regular, will play Herman. Daniel Roebuck and Richard Brake, also frequent fixtures in Zombie’s films, are also set to star along with Jorge Carcia (Lost) and Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira). Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own. Scooby (Frank Welker) and the gang, Fred (also voiced by Welker), Daphne (Grey Griffin), Velma (Kate Micucci), and Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) are up to their arcane armpits in preternatural peril when ye olde friendly neighborhood pumpkin patch is covered in toxic waste (accompanied by a cue that definitely brings to mind 1985’s Return of the Living Dead) which results in the pumpkins coming to life and they have the horror biz foremost on their monstrous minds! Seems like a solid Scooby-Doo scenario… how about if I told you that Elvira (the legendary Cassandra Peterson herself, ‘natch) shows up, as does Bill Nye the Science Guy (himself, though amped-up to 11)… and the Scarecrow (The A-Team‘s world famous Howlin’ Mad Murdock, Dwight Shultz)… like from Batman… yeah, what the what now?!! With it’s faster pace

Before the five minute mark of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark; the titular character (portrayed by Cassandra Peterson) is groped by her new boss… and then she proceeds to quit her shitty job, and push that grabby bastard right through a desk. This is because Elvira kicks major ass… and guess what, so does this film! After the aforementioned bad touch; Elvira plans on taking her act (which seems to vary from Horror Host to Vegas showgirl… and some unholy combination of both) to Vegas… but her prospective producers are demanding a large sum to put on her show… and with her source of income now in the zero range, that ain’t gonna happen. Luckily our heroine gets a telegram informing her that her Great-Aunt Morgana has gone tits up, and Elvira is set to score big in the will; so she loads up her creepy caddy (the Macabre-mobile by name) and drives off to Fallwell, Massachusetts, where shortly after

Like most little girls in love with horror genre, I looked up to one particular woman who seemed to have it all, Cassandra Peterson, but you’ll know her best as Elvira. Not only was she she was right in the middle of what I found so cool, horror movies, she was and is still beautiful and funny. I still associate her with many things I love about this genre. In the short Elvira encounters things that go bump in the night as she looks for the perfect Christmas tree. Late one night when I was twelve and up past curfew, I was channel surfing when I found reruns of this cheesy horror movie (I was already a horror addict by that point), suddenly this divine creature in a skin tight black dress came across the screen, Elvira, I was fascinated. Over the years my girl crush on Elvira never faded, after all she is the “Mistress Of The Dark”. Elvira brought the greatness out of bad horror movies with her one of a kind narration. Everyone knows the name Elvira and between her show, her movies, her photos in magazines, you’ve had to see her at some point. The lady is hard miss. Her larger than life personality, her outrageous sense of humor and great looks have made her a legend. How much do you know about the women behind the spunky character? Elvira’s real name is Cassandra Peterson. Cassandra was born in Manhattan, Kansas and raised in Colorado
