Here’s What We Know About The “Chucky” Series

With Orion gearing up to release their Child’s Play reboot next month, you may be wondering where franchise creator Don Mancini‘s “Chucky” series stands. Last we reported Nick Antosca who created “Channel Zero” had come on board to produce. During a recent talk with Slash Film, Antosca teased that the series will more like the early films of the franchise and less like the Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. The series is going to be closer to the tone of the first two movies in the series,” Antosca stated. “It’s going to go back to a sort of classic scare.” He continued. ““It’s consistent with that mythology, but it’s a whole new story,” Antosca explained. “So you could come into it without knowing anything about the previous stuff and get into it. But it is consistent with all the mythology that has come before, so it is in canon.” Antosca has left the door open for franchise regulars

Blu-ray Review: Spontaneous Combustion (1990)

Sam (Brad Dourif playing the role to the hilt…as usual) is just you normal, average, every-man type; the kind of guy who’s parents volunteered to be test subjects in nuclear experiments as they conceived him and then self immolated right after he was born…and who is now manifesting the power of psychokinesis; an ability to create and control fire (with a side order of electric discharge) whenever he gets pissed off…which is often. Besides having super powers; Sam is rapidly falling apart, as every use of his powers results in blood spurting fissures to appear on his body that subsequently start blastin’ forth massive amounts of freaky fire. Add to that a bitchy ex-wife, and a new girlfriend (Cynthia Bain) who may not be all she appears to be…not to mention a shady government organization, and you have a ticking time bomb on two legs! Following hot on the heels from legendary director Tobe Hooper’s (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist)

‘Child’s Play’ Reboot To Be Extremely Different From What We Know And Love

For a moment we were kind of excited about the upcoming Child’s Play reboot from MGM, that is until we learned just how different the movie will be from what we know and love about the franchise, Brad Dourif, the longtime voice of Chucky, won’t be involved. That’s right, Chucky will be getting a new voice. The changes don’t stop there, allegedly, Chucky will no longer be a serial killer possessed doll, instead, he will be an out of control A.I., according to Bloody Disgusting. Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) has been tapped to direct the reboot based on the script penned by Kung Fury writer Burton Smith. While horror fans are pretty open-minded, I don’t think they’re that open minded. I’ll be honest, the movie might be more successful if they were to rename the bot and break ties to the franchise altogether. Luckily, we will see Universal continue the original franchise. There is currently a “Child’s Play” series in pre-production

MGM Rebooting Child’s Play

Chucky will soon be everywhere your turn (that’s not a bad thing). We recently reported that Child’s Play is being adapted for a series. Now, we’ve discovered that the original film is getting a reboot from MGM. Collider is reporting that their sources are saying that Lars Klevberg has been tapped to direct the reboot based on the script penned by Kung Fury writer Burton Smith. The new version of the classic is said to be a “contemporary reboot involving a group of kids…and a technologically advanced doll that enters their world.” MGM has been developing the film under a secret code name in hopes to surprise fans, similar to the way Adam Wingard did with The Woods, which was actually Blair Witch. MGM worked out a deal with Universal Pictures, due to the fact that they still own the rights to the franchise which has flourished under the supervision of the franchise creator Don Mancini. Don Mancini Teases ‘Child’s Play’ Series With New Image

The Child’s Play franchise has spanned thirty years and seven films, now it’s headed to TV. Back in February, we reported that the franchise is getting its own series. Creator Don Mancini and David Kirschner have been developing the series and over Twitter today, Mancini teased the show with a GIF. pic.twitter.com/5Xqve1w88H — Don Mancini (@RealDonMancini) June 22, 2018 While Mancini didn’t reveal any new details, we do that is will pick up where left off and will have a tone that is “dark and disturbing.” It will not be a reboot, simply a continuation of Chucky’s story. “We plan to use Child’s Play in the title,” Mancini has stated. “We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.” We also know that actor Brad Dourif, the longtime voice of our favorite killer doll, will return for the series, which will feature 8 hour-long episodes.
