‘Trick Or Treats’ Is Getting A Blu-Ray Re-Release Just In Time For Halloween

1982’s Trick or Treats had its first Blu-ray release back in 2015. Now, it’s getting a new re-release just in time for Halloween. In the film, “Five years after his wife, Joan (Carrie Snodgress), had him wrongfully and deliberately committed to a mental institution so she could live with her boyfriend (David Carradine), Malcolm (Peter Jason) escapes on Halloween night and arrives back at his old house to murder her. Except Joan is not home – she’s out with her boyfriend while babysitter Linda (Jacqueline Giroux) is looking after Malcolm’s 10-year-old son Christopher (Chris Graver), an equally psychotic and demented practical joker until, under cover of darkness, Malcolm shows up and begins a real terror game of attrition with Linda.” Steve Railsback, Paul Bartel, Jillian Kesner, John Blyth Barrymore, Dan Pastorini, and Tim Rossovich co-star in the film written, produced and directed by Gary Graver. Trick or Treats will be re-released on October 5, 2021, from Kino and Code Red.

The ‘In Search Of Darkness’ Horror Documentary Franchise Is Back With Part III

The horror documentary franchise In Search of Darkness, the ultimate series on horror in the 80s, already features over eight hours about one of the best decades of horror. Now, a new installment has been announced via Twitter which will turn the franchise into a trilogy. The first documentary was released in 2019 and explored ’80s horror movies through the perspective of the actors, directors, producers, and the SFX people who made them, as well as their impact on cinema. Directed by David A. Weiner, the documentary features horror icons such as John Carpenter, Larry Cohen, Tom Atkins, Doug Bradley, and many more. The next film was released in 2020 and dives deeper into the practical effects of the decade and has interviews from genre icons and industry experts alongside the original cast. CW’s New “Killer Camp” Reality Series Pays Homage To 1980’s Slashers

Following its debut in the UK last year, the slasher reality series “Killer Camp” is heading to the CW in the US, paying homage to the 80s slasher films we love so much. In the series, “11 British strangers are shocked to discover they are not going on a fun new reality show called “Summer Camp’” but actually participating in a horror whodunnit called “Killer Camp.” Each night someone will be ‘murdered’ – and they must determine who the secret murderer is amongst them.” “The object of the game is to earn cash while avoiding being killed and therefore eliminated from the game. The murderer will bump off their fellow campers in ever more extreme, hilarious and inventive ways; it’s the job of the innocents to work out who is responsible before it’s too late… The killer will eliminate an innocent every night, assisted by the evil camp handyman “Bruce,” who actually executes the bloody hilarious death scenes. Comedian Bobby

Blu-ray Review: Doom Asylum (1987)

A lawyer gets into a car accident (after an over-the-top display of hysterics) that leaves him horribly disfigured and his girlfriend a corpse. As such individuals do, he now stalks the halls of an abandoned asylum, just waiting to put the murder biz on anyone foolish to enter the putrid place. As if on cue, a bunch of fools (including some teens and an all female noise rock band…the leader of which must have a diet that consists of nothing but scenery for the amount of it she chews through the film’s run time) do indeed decide to pay the asylum a visit resulting in gore, popped tops (well one top to be more accurate), and one liners! The first thing you have to realize about Doom Asylum is that it absolutely refuses to take itself seriously. Once you get past that lil’ tidbit you can just kick back and enjoy the intentionally over-the-top acting, wise crakin’ killer, scenarios, and

Ode to 80’s Horror: A Nightmare on Elm Street

In honor of Halloween approaching (everyone’s favorite holiday) and whispers of the second remake happening (Kevin Bacon, anyone?) this #Odeto80s is on that 1986 Wes Craven classic: A Nightmare on Elm Street. WHERE IT CAME FROM: Wes Craven had already had horror movie success when he read a series of disturbing articles in the newspaper: “It was a series of articles in the LA Times, three small articles about men from South East Asia, who were from immigrant families and had died in the middle of nightmares—and the paper never correlated them, never said, ‘Hey, we’ve had another story like this.” Crave took this horrifying premise and paired it with his own terrifying childhood memory of a creepy man that had come to his window , and put a red and green striped sweater on it to create Freddy Krueger. WHY WE LOVE IT: Nightmare is arguably Craven’s greatest work, leaving the audience feel unsafe: even in their sleep. Aside

Ode to 80’s Horror: Re-Animator

Horror has never lacked for mad scientist tales, and the 80’s was no exception. One of the greatest and most classic of these 80’s tales is Re-Animator. Re-Animator is a good old-fashioned horror film. It has mad scientists, dead bodies coming to life, black cats, etc. It’s fun, it’s scary, and it’s completely deserving of this #Odeto80sHorror. WHERE IT CAME FROM: Because of it’s extremely classic themes and elements of Cosmic Horror it’s not surprising that Re-Animator is loosely based of a H.P. Lovecraft story: Herbert West – Reanimator. Stuart Gordon (of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids fame, for all you millennials) co-wrote and directed this 1985 adaptation, produced for an estimated budget of about $900,000. WHY WE LOVE IT: This movie is FUN. If you’re into horror, this movie is a theme park. It’s tone, dialogue, and special effects all reach for you to have a ton of fun watching it- and it doesn’t disappoint. Let’s talk special effects
