‘Apocalypse Now: Final Cut’ Now Out On Steelbook

Over the past few months, Lionsgate has released a series of fantastic films on Steelbooks, sold exclusively at Best Buy, including 3 From Hell. The latest to be released is the brilliant film Apocalypse Now: Final Cut in 4K Ultra. Directed by legendary Acadamy Award-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, Apocalypse Now features a compelling story, fantastic acting, and an unflinching look at the horrors of the Vietnam war. It stands out as one of the finest films ever made. The film, originally released in 1979, follows a U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam who is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god. Martin Sheen stars alongside Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall in the film that, unlike many others, in no way glamorizes the war instead it uses its brutality and ugliness to explain how everyday men can turn into monsters. Apocalypse Now opens with glimpses of choppers and the lush jungle which served

4K Ultra HD Review: The Final Countdown (1980)

‘Round about ol’ nineteen hundred and eighty, systems analyst Warren Lasky (a staggeringly young Martin Sheen) finds himself aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz, led by Captain Yelland (a staggeringly not as old as he was towards the end, but still old Kirk Douglas) down Pearl Harbor way. Lasky’s job? Tell them what a gang of fuck-ups they are and how they can improve on that via efficiency or some shit… it isn’t important until it is anyway… Anyhow, the Nimitz soon finds itself in the middle of one hell of a bizarre storm, which they assume to be the result of some sort of Soviet attack or other… which unless they got their mitts on Destro’s Weather Dominator is a bit of a stretch, but regardless the Nimitz sails straight into a laser light display straight out of a Who concert. Cue: Star Trek theatrics, lazer antics, and searing pain… After all of that glorious nonsense, our heroes find

4K Ultra HD Review: Tremors (1990)

Valentine McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are two shit-kickin’ handymen kickin’ shit around the near non-existent desert town of Perfection. But all doesn’t stay broken fences and tumbleweeds for our heroes, as soon they are up to their asses in missing people, of which the town truly doesn’t have any to spare! The boys soon find out the culprit behind it all… the totally reasonable answer of giant mutant earthworms (nicknamed Graboids), as one would have surely guessed. Now it’s up to them, along with graduate geology student Rhonda LeBeck (Finn Carter) and survivalists Burt and Heather Gummer (Family Ties‘ Michael Gross and country-crooner/sit-com star Reba McEntire respectively) to save P-town and end that wicked worm menace once and for fuckin’ all! 4K Ultra Review: Vigilante (1982)

Industrial repairman Eddie Marino (the great Robert Forster) has a real problem on his grease-stained hands. You see, his wife Vickie (Rutanya Alda) got slappy with a gang of denim-clad Warrior wanna-bes called The Headhunters, and they returned the favor by using her as a pin-cushion, and blasting the couple’s son Scott (Dante Joseph) to pieces with a double-barrel shotgun. To make matters worse, The Headhunters are cleared of the murder charge thanks to some legal loopholes, and in a bizarre twist of fate, Eddie actually goes to jail for assaulting the judge. All is not lost however, as Eddie’s steel workin’ pals are a covert group of vigilantes lead by tough-ass mother fucker Nick (the legendary Fred “The Hammer” Williamson), and when he gets back on the streets Eddie and the boys are going to bring serious bodily harm to every mother fucker that’s done him wrong! Coming from director William Lustig, Vigilante was his attempt at creating a

4K Ultra HD Review: Flash Gordon (1980)

Before I begin jawin’ about the movie itself, I feel it appropriate to share some thoughts on Flash Gordon. If you aren’t interested in such things… or having your’s cruelly uncharacteristically lay his soul bare, just skip down a bit. Anyway, back in December of 1980, my desire to see Flash Gordon was at an almost unbelievable level…and my parents blew my mind and agreed to drive me, and the prettiest girl in the second grade who agreed to be my date, many towns over (yes, I grew up in the literal middle of nowhere) to see the film… but mother nature had other plans; and a nor’easter (to those not in the know; Upstate New York has about 14 months of winter per year… at least it did back then) kept us in town, and Altman’s Popeye was what it had to be (and for the record, that is a charming film and a ton of fun… but it

4K Ultra HD Review: Pitch Black (2000)

A space freighter gets damaged to fuck and back by some rogue comets and makes an emergency landing on a barren alien world, killing all but nine of the crew. Speaking of survivors, one such individual is bad-ass convict Riddick (Vin Diesel), who is now on the loose. As if that unpredictable psycho wasn’t enough, the planet is also home to a vicious lil’ gaggle of toothy creatures that come out once every 28 years during an eclipse… and the time for that cosmic spectacle is nigh! Now can Riddick be counted on to add to the survival rate of these hapless cosmic castaways? Pitch Black is an unbelievably entertaining sci-fi/action creature feature, and one of the reasons for it’s success is that co-writer/director David Twohy, who was also responsible for this film’s sequels; The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), and Riddick (2013), keeps things nice n’ simple as far as the basics go; this is a straight up cat n’
