Spoiler-Free Review: COYOTE (Romford Film Festival)  

U.K. science fiction thriller Coyote (2023) combines current social issues with lo-fi science fiction elements. The result is a film that boasts solid performances and thought-provoking themes. Partners Ekaterina (Therica Wilson-Read) and Anya (Borislava Stratieva) pay heavily to have one of them instantly transported using cutting-edge tech from Rasskazovo, where a violent crackdown on LGBTQ people is taking place, to a safe house in London for female immigrants. Orla Miller (Ailish Symons), the woman in charge of the safe house, is hospitable at first before she eventually informs Ekaterina that, as an immigrant, she stands to make money more quickly and in greater amounts if she provides sexual services to highly-placed men, which Ekaterina learns that the other women staying there are doing. Coyote is a lower-budget indie effort that wisely relies on minimal special effects, and the teleportation scenes are well done courtesy of Visual Effects Supervisor Howard Gardner. The Fight Continues In The First Look At Season Two Of Apple TV’s “Invasion”

Apple TV+ today unveiled the premiere date and a gripping first look at season two of its ambitious series “Invasion,” which will return globally on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. The series is from Academy Award-nominated and two-time Emmy Award-nominated producer Simon Kinberg (“X-Men” films, “Deadpool” films, “The Martian”) and David Weil (“Citadel”), and executive produced by Boat Rocker, “Invasion” is a sweeping, character-driven science fiction drama series that follows an alien invasion from different perspectives worldwide. “Invasion” will debut with the first episode of its ten-episode second season, followed by one new episode weekly, every Wednesday through October 25, 2023, on Apple TV+. Rue Morgue Founder & Filmmaker Rodrigo Gudiño Talks ‘The Breach’ In An Interview

In 1997, Rodrigo Gudiño founded the horror/music magazine Rue Morgue, which has since become an iconic staple in the genre. But that’s not all he’s been up to. Somehow he has found the time to become a filmmaker as well. His latest film, The Breach, is set to be released this July. Let me tell you about The Breach. It follows John Hawkins, who is in his last days as Chief of Police in the tiny town of Lone Crow, deep in the woods of Northern Ontario. But when a mangled body with strange wounds is found on the shores of the Porcupine River, he’s pulled into a horrific mystery filled with black magic. And the soundtrack features the iconic Guns N’ Roses Guitarist and Rock God, Slash, who also serves as an Executive Producer. Renewed Or Canceled? MGM+ Announces The Future Of “FROM”

It never fails; when the season finale of a series you are really like comes, a bit of panic sets in as you wonder if you’ll get to see more. Will it be canceled or renewed? That’s the case with MGM+’s horror series “FROM,” which always leaves me on the edge of my seat and is one of my favorites. Well, I have fantastic news for my fellow “FROM” fans. MGM+ announced today that the contemporary sci-fi horror series “FROM” has been renewed for a 10-episode third season! In “FROM,” the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter begins to unravel. In the wake of Season Two’s epic cliffhanger, escape will become a tantalizing and very real possibility as the town’s true nature comes into focus and the townspeople go on offense against the myriad horrors surrounding them. The adaptation of Nick Cutter’s (The Troop) horror novel is directed by Rue Morgue founder Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh). Trailer Lands For Anthology ‘Tales From The Apocalypse’ Ahead Of Release

The science-fiction anthology Tales from the Apocalypse, featuring segments directed by the likes of Thomas Wilson Brown, Damon Duncan, and Gabriel Kalim Mucci, is coming home this July. Tales from the Apocalypse includes five terrifying tales, including stories about “an engineer circling a black hole in a pod, a 14-year-old girl and her father on the return journey to Earth when an explosion cripples their aircraft, and a self-conscious Artificial Intelligence goes to the 4th dimension to fix humans future.” The cast includes Rachel House, Jacqueline Joe, Jiao Xu, Arthur Roberts, Katie Simmons, Levi Payne, Steph Barkley, and Thomas Wilson Brown. Tindalos Interactive and Focus Entertainment, in collaboration with 20th Century Games, have come together to bring the next heart-pounding installment into the Alien game franchise with Aliens: Dark Descent where players take control of a squad of space marines as they face off against Xenomorphs and other enemies as they fight for survival. Time-Bending Thriller ‘Breaking Infinity’ Lands New Trailer

This July, the British sci-fi thriller, Breaking Infinity takes you on a time-bending trip through the ages as a scientist tries to prevent the apocalypse. The film stars Neil Bishop (Beautiful Disaster), Zoe Cunningham (The Look of Love), Martin Bishop (Wonder Woman), Zed Josef (King of Crime), and Jonny Phillips (Titanic, The Death of Stalin), with director Marianna Dean making her feature-length directorial debut. Breaking Infinity centers on “Liam, a research scientist who has become unstuck in time. Short Film Review: Canary (2023)

A group of pals; Ignacio (Matthew Mitchell Espinosa), Nev (Andrew Hayden Kang), Enoch (Thaddeus Newman), and George (Kiyoshi Shishido) by name, head out for a ‘lil R&R at a remote cabin located deep within the wicked woods. Along for the ride is George’s cousin Albert (Barron Leung), a meek fella who unfortunately becomes the victim of severe, alcohol-fueled abuse by those mentioned up yonder when George exits the scene to find some help. Why the need for assistance you may ask? Well, seems the world outside the cabin walls seems to be the subject of some sort of invasion by creatures unknown, and now ol’ Al is faced with a big-ass die-lemma; end his torment by either puttin’ a murder on those bullies, or face whatever in the fuck is lurking outside… One thing you can say about Canary’s director Taka Tsubota; he’s got a good eye (two of them most likely) for making a film look like a million
