Blu-ray Review: Kolobos (1999)

Kyra (Amy Weber), one of those troubled artist types, answers an ad in the newspaper (welcome to the future year of 1999!) to become a sort of human lab rat for a sketchy filmed anthropology experiment to take place in a fancy-ass mountain lodge. Once there she settles in with the rest of the “subjects”, and shows them her creepy A.F. artwork, which she fails to mention is inspired by a faceless man who haunts her dreams (waking and otherwise). Of course all of this leads to something dire; namely the lodge locks down come nightfall and his loaded to the balls with deadly booby traps. Will our heroes survive the dangerous dwelling, and how will Kyra’s fantasies affect their reality? Man-oh-man, Kolobos is one stylish-ass fright flick! Taking it’s cues from Argento and Bava, the flick is packed tight with lurid colors (kudos to Photography Yoram Astrakhan), surreal fever dream imagery, and fetishistic displays of extreme gore that lead

Blu-ray Review: Strip Nude for Your Killer (1975)

Photographer Magda (Edwige Fenech) and her boy toy, the fiery tempered Carlo (Nino Castelnuovo) have got one hell of a sinister situation on their hands; the fashion agency where they work has been suffering a series of those “sex crimes” that are all the rage in Milan these days (perpetrated by a man dressed all in black and topped of by a motorcycle helmet)…and as fate and the script would have it, Carlo is a suspect and Magda a potential victim. Will our dynamic duo be able to crack the case before the body count grows higher? Strip Nude for Your Killer has one thing going for it…and you better sit down, because this one is going to be a shocker…it’s loaded with exposed flesh. I know…I could scarcely believe it either. Of course that isn’t the only check in the plus column this giallo cum softcore romp has to offer; we also get some stunning cinematography courtesy of Franco

Movie Review: The Unseen (2016)

Bob Langmore (Aden Young); deadbeat dad, lumber mill worker, partially invisible…what, what the fuck now?!! Yeah, ol’ Bob made like a fuckin’ banana and split, leaving his wife Darlene (Camille Sutherland) and rebellious teen daughter Eva (Julia Sarah Stone) in his wake…to say nothing of a promising hockey career…to start over in a remote Canadian town. Why did he leave all that behind? Because he is slowly, painfully. turning invisible, which admittedly would tax the ol’ noggin a bit…and lately that “slowly” part is starting to speed up exponentially. Before long, Darlene calls Bob home to help wrangle in their daughter…but there’s one small problem; she goes missing, and Bob doesn’t take kindly to that, so he sets off on a mission of vengeance to find her…all before he vanishes altogether. The Unseen is a unique take on the whole “invisible man” trope. For one thing we get the troubled every man who is dealing with an outre condition (the

The ‘Tangent Room’ Trailer Reveals A Universe In Danger

Epic Pictures has unveiled the trailer for writer-director Björn Engström‘s sci-fi thriller Tangent Room, starring Vee Vimolmal, Lisa Bearpark, Håkan Julander, Jennifer Lila, and Daniel Epstein. Trapped in a mysterious room with no escape, four brilliant minds race against time to prevent a cosmic collapse of the universe. They must learn to work together and solve the puzzle before it’s too late. Engström describes his inspiration for the film: I found a research paper explaining how measurement data from the space experiment WMAP could be interpreted as scrape marks caused by a parallel universe scraping against our own,” says writer and director, Engström. “I immediately got a story in my head: What if this collision between universes happened inside a room? And what if four scientists have to figure out what is going on before it kills them? This idea fed my imagination and I wrote the first draft of the TANGENT ROOM screenplay in a matter of weeks.“ The

Blu-ray Review: Hostel (2005) & Hostel Part II (2007) Horror Double Feature Blu-ray and DVD Combo

Hostel: Horny goofs/college students (same difference) Paxton (Jay Hernandez) and Josh (Derek Richardson) are trekking Europe with their Icelandic pal Óli (Eythor Gudjonsson) letting their dicks lead them to as much sex as humanly possible. Their exploits take them to Slovakia where they stay at an opulent hostel (itself one hell of a movie time fantasy if my experiences are to be trusted…and they are creeps, they are…) sharing a room with the gorgeous Natalya (Barbara Nedeljakova) and Svetlana (Jana Kaderabkova). As expected sex is had…but shit goes south six ways to Sunday when our protagonists find themselves at the mercy of the hostel’s true purpose; a place where unsuspecting travelers are lead to their doom as victims of an elite club of wealthy patrons who get to enact their deepest torture fantasies on live, unwilling victims! Will anyone make it out with their lives and bodies intact? One of the forerunners of the now rather cliche torture porn genre,

Blu-ray Review: Skinner (1993)

Dennis Skinner (Ted Raimi) wades into town (like literally through water…ever hear of a sidewalk chum?) and takes a room in the house of Kerry and Geoff Tate (Ricki Lake and David Warshofsky respectively). Well, Geoff treats Kerry like a shit sandwich and she soon develops a crush on ol’ Skinner…even though he’s weird as balls…and lives up to his name by skinning women and wearing their hides like a Ben Cooper Halloween number, ya dig? Meanwhile, a beautiful and scarred woman named Heidi (Traci Lords) blows into town with a murderous ambition towards Skinner, and an ass-load of drugs as well. How will this sinister scenario play out, and who’ll be left alive and intact at the end of it? Skinner is one hell of a fucked up fright flick! The entire film has an off putting and overly strange vibe (aided by a near comic book style utilization of color and an odd water motif) that is hard

Blu-ray Review: Purgatory Road (2017)

Man-oh-man, did Vincent Kirby (Michael Lebeau) ever make one hell of a shitty decision as a child. You see, ol’ V-man did nothing to stop a female thief from stealing his Dad’s cash, which had the adverse effect of making his Pa do the whole suicide bag. This lead Vincent to become a Catholic priest operating his “ministry” put of a piece of crap van in the rural south along with his brother Michael (Jacob Craig). Of course Father Vincent provides the service of taking Confession, and he pardons every sin…except stealing; anyone who admits to that wrong doing finds themselves in Deadsville courtesy of the rage of that petulant padre! Things go just peachy until a real psycho killer (must resist…Qu’est-ce que c’est…oh damn it) named Mary Francis (Trista Robinson) enters Vincent and Jacob’s lives. She of course digs their whole murder biz, but things soon become frayed between the brothers with Mary’s presence on the scene! Director Mark
