Film Review: Sanctuary (2019)

The Northern Horror Fest will be held July 21, 2021, in Bergenfield New Jersey. The event will showcase independent horror/thriller films, one of the films that will be at Northern Horror Fest is the short horror Sanctuary and yours truly was lucky enough to get the chance to check it out thanks to the film’s director Lee Shorten (The Terror: Infamy, The Man in the High Castle)! Sanctuary follows Olivia (Harumy Tanajara) a young woman who believes she’s receiving warnings about the impending apocalypse by her dead brother by way of coins, all the while trying to convince her boyfriend/husband Thomas (Luke Sykes) the warnings are genuine. I’m going to keep this spoiler-free as much as possible as I do feel this film is worth checking out. Overall for a short, a lot was shown within that time to fill you in on the background of the character of Olivia and her unseen Brother. I like that the film does

Blu-ray Review: Henrique Couto’s Backyard Legacy (2018)

Before I begin this revoltin’ review let me state that Henrique Couto is both a pal and a co-conspirator in the horror picture-makin’ biz…therefore this is going to be a bit more of a “why I think this release is worth your while” than a blow by blow technical breakdown of the monstrous minute or some such shit; anyway… Henrique Couto, simply put, is one of the hardest workin’ dudes in the horror biz today; don’t believe me, just feast your putrid peepers on his Imdb…I’ll wait…for shit’s sake where have you been?!! What not content with just checkin’ out that page you surfed on over to Brazzers or something? Anyway, yeah ol’ Uncle Henny has been a busy lil’ beaver that’s for sure, but he didn’t get to make his monstrous masterpieces before putting in his dues…and that’s where this Blu-ray comes in! Comprised of an arcane ass-load (that’s like waaay over six hours for you non-scientific folks) of

New Trailer Takes Us On A ‘Road To Hell’

Today we have the trailer for Roberto D’Antona’s Road To Hell (aka Fino all’Inferno). Presented at the Cartoomics 2018 in Milan, a convention featuring comics and films, the film will arrive in Italian theaters this August. In the film, “A group of robbers fleeing to a new life, crossing their path with a woman, with her son and with the tragic curse they bring with them. a criminal boss and a mysterious organization of unscrupulous men, to help them, an ex-policeman with hasty methods and a jealous girlfriend. The escape will soon turn into a mad rush to hell to save the life of the child and the fate of the world.” I take the inspiration from the films of my childhood – explains the director and protagonist Roberto D’Antona – especially from Big Trouble in Little China. Adventurous stories of heroes and anti-heroes that, searching a redemption, were capable of the most titanic undertaking. These are the stories that have

Horror Fuel Invades Days Of The Dead Atlanta

The Days of the Dead’s Atlanta convention has come and gone. This past weekend Horror Fuel invaded Days of the Dead Atlanta. We had a ball meeting actors like Malcolm McDowell (Halloween), Ray Wise (Jeepers Creepers 2), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th, Hatchet), Bill Moseley (Devil’s Rejects), Matthew Lillard (Scream), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Chosen Jacobs (IT 2017), Jeremy Ray Taylor (IT 2017), and Alex Vincent (Child’s Play), just to name a few. Of course, there were several actresses there as well, including Traci Lords (Cry-Baby) and Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist). Every time I go to DOTDAtl (this was my third year) it never fails, there are amazing artists selling their wares. So many paintings, prints, dolls, masks, jewelry, and a lot of clothing to check out. I picked up a few items myself, including a fantastic print by artist Doug Hoppes (the one over his right shoulder) and a signed horror-themed children’s book for my nephew, Scout, by Candy and

We Need To Talk About Michael

News of Jamie Lee Curtis’s return to the long-running Halloween franchise almost broke the Internet a few weeks ago. Some online posts were akin to The Beatles US arrival or the announcement of The Force Awakens. Blumhouse has taken the reigns and hopes to run with it. Part of this Cynema post asks, “to where?” There is nothing wrong with what Blumhouse is doing. Films get made, they get sequels, they get remakes. Hats off to any franchise that lasts forty years and remains relevant. However, there are a number Cynema-like elements to this. While everyone gushes about what this means to horror, I am going to look at just what this means to horror. Fan Reaction Details trickled in not long after the initial euphoria. Would this new film ignore the events after Carpenter’s original ’78 film? The news of Judy Greer joining the new film as Laurie Strode’s daughter sent a new wave of concern among online nerd-dom.
