The Conjuring universe continues to expand. The latest spin-off is from The Conjuring 2, The Crooked Man.

The spin-off was first announced back in 2017, but thing have been quiet since. Actor Javier Botet has now offered an update during an interview with Daily Dead.

Since the first time I met the producers when we were shooting Conjuring 2, they spoke to me, they told me that the intention was to make a spinoff. So I said, ‘Okay, let’s make Conjuring 2 first and then we will play it by ear.’ Botet continued, “But I love the character. It’s amazing, beautiful. So it’s a pity to see only a little, little part in The Conjuring 2. I’m so excited and I want to make a Crooked Man spinoff. But I know the same that everybody knows. They wrote the screenplay and they are waiting at the moment. They want to do it, but we don’t have a schedule. We don’t know when it’s going to happen.”

Since the film was first announced, several spin-offs and their sequels have premiered, including Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and La Llorona, so it’s no surprise that development on The Crooked Man has been moving slowly.
Set in 1977, The Conjuring 2 follows Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) to London where they meet Peggy Hodgeson, a single mother whose daughter is showing the signs of possession. As they investigate, they briefly come in contact with the Crooked Man twice. A tall, contorted entity with a toothy grin the role was played by Botet. Based on nursery rhyme, the figure is a terrifying one.
There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,And they all lived together in a little crooked house.”

We’ll keep you posted. Hopefully, the movie will begin productions soon. In the meantime, check out the two clips from The Conjuring 2 featuring the Crooked Man.
